Reginaldo visits his father-in-law at the hotel. Antonio is wearing a serious and intimidating expression.
"Reggie, how nice of you to come. Today before lunch Laura came saying she wants to divorce you. What have you done to hurt my daughter?"
Reginaldo is upset at how quickly Antonio blames him for this.
"I didn't do anything, sir."
Antonio adds wryly, "Exactly, that's the problem. You don't do anything."
"Selling popsicles on the beach is a worthy profession."
"I wouldn't use the word 'profession', young man."
Reginaldo uses the same sarcastic tone, "You never offered me a job here at the hotel. What else can I do?"
"A man always gets his way, Reggie. Anyway, explain to me why my daughter wants to divorce you?"
Reginaldo decides not to talk about her lover when he sees that Antonio is unwilling to believe him.
"Well... that's what happens when there is a marriage by force. There is no love."
Antonio rages, "And what happened at the nightclub? You admit that you simply acted like an animal by raping my little princess—"
"I did NOT rape anyone!" Reginaldo retorts equally furious.
"So you admit that there was love in the sexual intercourse?"
Reginaldo petulantly replies, "Of course not, it was purely an alcohol-driven act."
"Then you raped my daughter, end of discussion! If there is a divorce, I will report you to the police! That was the deal, so convince my daughter to get this idea of divorce out of her head."
Reginaldo is uncomfortable, his fists clenched.
"Aren't you going to tell me anything, useless?" Antonio teases him.
"I came here to borrow some money. I have a friend in need—"
Antonio's vicious laugh sounds like whiplash on Reginaldo's back, "That's absurd. How do you have the nerve to borrow money from me, knowing clearly that you're not going to pay me back?"
Reginaldo pleads in desperation, "It's just that this friend has known me since I was a bachelor—"
Antonio gestures, quite insensitive, "I don't care! If you want to borrow money, quit the popsicle business and get some decent job."
"Are you finally going to recommend me for some position here at the hotel?"
Antonio mockingly replies, "What are your qualifications? A hotel management degree? Post-graduation? Masters Degree? Some course at SENAC?"
It was obvious that Reginaldo had none of these. Antonio continues with a cruel smile before an embarrassed silence.
Reginaldo simply gets up and leaves, slamming the door shut.
Later, Reginaldo strolls through the splendor and exotic beauty of the beach. The waves crash on the sand and seagulls flap their wings in the orange sky. A few bathers gather their things to leave.
Reginaldo is swimming toward the sand. The activity calms him down after the fruitless argument he had with his father-in-law.
When Reginaldo gets out of the water, he checks that no one is around since he was swimming naked. He grabs his clothes and towel.
In the evening, Reginaldo enters the house drying his hair with the towel.
He feels his cell phone vibrating and decides to answer it. Suddenly, Reginaldo's eyes widen.
There is a message from an unknown number = 'Hello, Mr. Fabray! R$100,000.00 has been successfully deposited into your checking account.'
Reginaldo narrows his eyes. Where did this money come from?
As he starts walking up the stairs, he hears laughter from Laura and Eduardo coming from the kitchen. Reginaldo tiptoes over there.
Eduardo and Laura are brazenly eating the food that Laura despised at lunchtime.
Laura speaks with her mouth full, "I must admit that my husband cooks deliciously!"
"Stop complimenting the bum!" Eduardo demands somberly.
Laura teases him with debauchery, "I love it when you get jealous. That way you get smart and value the woman you claim to love."
"'Claims to love' my nose! I LOVE you, Laura. Will we have to repeat the record?"
"Repetition is always good for emphasis." Laura swallows her food, "So, are we going to the Mendonca's daughter's party?"
Reginaldo notices that Laura is already dressed up for the party.
"No..." Eduardo twitches his nose, "I'd rather stay home and work on my book. I was supposed to do that yesterday."
"Sorry for messing up your plans, but yesterday was fun. Dad insists I go with Reggie."
Eduardo is amazed, "But then everyone will know..."
Laura interrupts him with hatred, "Yes, but he decided that way because I announced to him that I wanted to get a divorce. He disagreed."
"Laura, don't obey your father. Let's go to the party together! I'm just going home to change my clothes and come back here so we can appear together in the social columns!"
Reginaldo gets angry and leaves before they both see him.
In the master suite, Reginaldo is changing clothes even though he hasn't showered to get the sand out of the sea. He does it pretty hurriedly."It's six in the evening still, there must be a store around here that's open!"He almost falls as he puts on a pair of jeans in such a hurry. As he goes down to the foyer, Reginaldo goes on tiptoe, looking toward the kitchen door, but Laura and Eduardo don't see him leave. They are too busy talking to each other. Reginaldo leaves and carefully closes the door.In the commercial part of Sunset Village, Reginaldo enters the bank and goes straight to one of the ATMs. He takes his wallet out of his pocket, takes his bank card, and sticks it in the machine. After entering the password and a few commands...The screen confirms that R$100,000.00 have been deposited for him!"It had to be my father." He concludes smiling, "The old man really wants to re-establish family ties. I already gave Anestor my answer... however... this money comes in handy..."
At the men's store, Reginaldo has already tried on the tuxedo and is at the checkout paying for his purchase. The credit card has been swiped, and the purchase has been approved.Reginaldo smiles satisfied, the credit is real. The awful seller approaches with extreme surprise, "What happened here? The purchase was approved?"The intern replies with debauchery, "The terminal beeped approving it, are you deaf?""But how is that possible? Marcio, a credit card has to belong to the holder with ID!"Reginaldo interrupts him sternly, "Shut up, you idiot! You tried to belittle me for my looks, but now you've lost a sale! And I'm very happy about the commission Marcio will get. Now get out of my way, I won't call the manager to complain."The salesman takes the hint and walks away. The lady clerk carefully puts the suit away in a large bag."Thank you very much, young lady. Marcio, in the future I want to reward you for this kindness." Reginaldo affirms like a sovereign.Marcio is surprised,
Laura and Eduardo enter the ballroom and are flooded by flashes. Laura tries to pull away, but Eduardo entangles his arm around her waist like octopus tentacles."Where do you think you're going, honey?" He asks whispering menacingly in her ear.Laura doesn't answer, she just reacts agonized at the photographers thinking the beautiful couple is posing romantically for them.Marianne sees the commotion at the entrance and smiles as she sees her daughter. She walks over to her."Daughter? Who is this handsome young man?"Laura responds in distress, "Mom, this is Eduardo Casemiro, the famous author from Marçal Publishing.""How is he famous if I don't have one of his books in our library?" Still, she smiles gently, "Nice to meet you, young man."Eduardo replies in admiration, "Likewise, madam."Marianne replies suggestively, "If what I hope is happening, you will be calling me Marianne shortly.""Mother!" Laura shrieks in shock. But Marianne only laughs, "Calm down, child! We're at a par
Reginaldo was startled by the rock 'n' roll playing inside the ballroom and was in doubt whether to call or not."Oh, damn, the party must be from a rebellious pre-teen. But now that I'm here..."Someone answers on the other end."Hello, this is Reginaldo Fabray!"On the other end, Anestor was properly dressed as a butler with a lithe expression on his face."Master! You remembered us...""Anestor, I don't have time for nostalgia. I don't want to have anything with Fabray real estate yet, I just want to prove my identity."Anestor frowned, "What? They didn't let you in somewhere?""After three years of hiding, my father-in-law invited me to a party at the Ferreira Hotel, but the security guards won't let me in. I'm not on the list.""But this is outrageous! Sir, this only confirms my thesis that you should stop staying in the shadows and act like who you are!"Reginaldo doesn't get so excited, "I'll think about it later. I just want to get into this stupid party because Laura doesn't
Reginaldo is impressed by the beautiful girl who was crying."Calm down, Anestor. It looks like some trouble has happened."Anestor replies with his nose turned up, "Obviously, her client got disgusted with her and she ran out of there."Aline yells as she sees that everyone is classifying her as a harlot, "You don't know who you are dealing with!"Aline runs out so she won't be humiliated further because of her dress.Anestor shrugs, "Sir, do you still want to go in? The music that was playing has now ceased."Reginaldo nods and enters the ballroom. When Reginaldo entered, the guests near him stared at him in astonishment. His navy blue tuxedo was different from the other models, standing out among the crowd. Who was this rich young man that just walked in?"Will anyone have the guts to tell him that the party has just been shut down?""What's going on here?" Reginaldo asks the guests."The birthday girl came in a scandalous, immodest dress and caused Miss Ferreira's ire for dancing
The next day, Laura walks into the kitchen for breakfast and finds herself with Reginaldo drinking coffee from a mug. He smiles from the corner of his mouth as he reads the news on his tablet."Your and Miss Mendonça's mischief is all over the gossip portals."Laura sits down, picks up her cell phone, and checks to see if this is true.Laura's face tenses as she opens the first website and checks for herself, "This has got to be clowning!""Yes, for the first time we agree on something!" Reginaldo declares jokingly.Laura reacts indignantly, "Reggie, don't put any more fuel on the fire!""Apparently, your father has forcibly released me from the obligation of me being your husband." He reads the article, "'The birthday girl danced with Laura Ferreira's boyfriend and made it clear to him that she was without panties'."Laura screams foaming with rage, "Ed is not my boyfriend!""No, he's your lover.""Reggie, stay out of it!"Reginaldo thickens his voice, "But of course, I'm going to me
Reginaldo and George have coffee at the Mountain Cafe after paying a few months' rent on the loft. George delights in the creamy, minty coffee."Reggie, you've never bought me a coffee in this coffee shop. What's going on?"Reginaldo continues mysteriously, "Let's just say things are changing for the better, buddy."George continues stubbornly to refuse, "I can't accept this. You're burning your meager savings..."Reginaldo puts his hand firmly on George's free hand."George, just STOP! I've told you three hundred times that I'm fine, that I won't need this money! You talk as if I'm unworthy of spending money on fancy things!""Excuse me, Reggie."Reginaldo takes a deep breath and controls his voice, "As I told you, I have spent these three years saving what I earn from the popsicles. The help I've given you will be the beginning of many things I intend to do. I won't be on the Ferreira family's tab forever."George becomes interested, "Um, what has changed?"Reginaldo leans forward a
Laura slams the door to her father's office and challenges her parents."What right do you have to tell me what I should or shouldn't walk with? Are we past this stage already?"Antonio retorts annoyed, "I don't think we should ever have passed! You still behave like an irresponsible child! What does it cost you to find a decent man?""I already got this man, the name is Eduardo Casemiro.""What does this imbecile do?" Antonio asks disdainfully.Marianne replies before her daughter catches her breath, "He's an author at Marçal Publishing."Antonio rolls his eyes, "Oh, how wonderful! A writer, what a beautiful profession!"Laura is outraged, "DAD! Have you ever heard of Isabel Freire and Jack Motta? Being a successful author in this important publishing house is not synonymous with failure!"Antonio sneers, "Still these two authors DO NOT live here in Sunset Village, right? They live in the urban part of Lagoon City, and so will this Eduardo. He won't earn enough to satisfy your desire
