The Man In Jail

Greg smiled, and it seemed that Bane knew his ring.

“An old man gave me that. Any other questions?”

“An old man…”Ban mumbled, “Could you tell me his name?”

Greg said, ”I don’t think you’re qualified to know his name.”

“Yeah…you are right.” Bane said respectfully, now he can assure that Greg was not bluffing.

''I apologise. I have nothing to do for or against the organisation,'' Bane said

“What are you doing, uncle Bane? Take down this garbage and throw him into the sea!” Damien yelled.

Bane suddenly turned his head and stared at Damien angrily.

“Shut up you idiot! I’m your uncle, not your servant! Do not order me!”

Damien was frightened by Bane, he knew how cruel Bane is.

“But…”

“If you want to live with your money happily, then don’t offend the people you should never mess with. This is my final advice, for your father’s sake.” Bane left with those words.

Soon the place returned to Greg staring at Laura and Damien angrily.

Greg suddenly turned and walked away with angry strides.

Damien adjusted his suit and glared at Laura secretly, for her to come back and stand by him.

''I apologize for the break, my friends. We may continue,'' Damien announced to the perplexed guests at the wedding with a casual demeanor.

Soft music began to play in order to ease the tense atmosphere.

Damien stared at Laura deviously, as if it was her fault that Greg came to crash their wedding.

''Do you want to go back to him?'' Damien asked, pulling Laura close to him forcefully and suddenly that she slammed into his chest and gasped for air.

''No. No. I want you,'' Laura cried and was going to start sobbing when Damien warned her against it.

''We are outside. Don't shed those disgusting tears for everyone to see. You can do that at home when it's only me around to make you shed more of it,'' Damien whispered to her with scorn.

Laura's lips quivered. She had just gotten married to Damien, and they were at the after-party when Greg showed up. She knew that her life would never be the same again after that day. She saw Damien turn to the devil right before her eyes, and knew that as long as Greg was walking free, Damien would make her life hell because of what happened at the wedding. She knew that he would torment her for a long time.

''Take heart bro,'' Pedro told Greg as he drove away from the wedding venue. Greg didn't say anything, instead, he stared ahead of him with a blank expression.

''So, are you going to tell me about what happened to you in jail? Since when did you become so good in martial arts by the way?'' Pedro asked.

''And what was that man talking about an Angst Clan, or what not?'' He added.

Greg turned and stared at Pedro menacingly, then turned back to look outside the car.

''I get it,'' Pedro muttered.

He was not allowed to say anything about the Angst Clan. He was not even allowed to ask Greg questions concerning what he saw earlier. Only if Greg felt like revealing anything to him, then, Pedro would be invited. But for now, Pedro was required to shut up about it.

''What the fuck?'' Pedro whispered as he and Greg stared ahead of them in shock. They had arrived at Greg's house and saw two large cranes, destroying what was left of the house.

Greg was furious.

Pedro hurried out of the car to speak with the men in charge.

''This house belongs to someone. What is going on? Why are you destroying it? Does it look abandoned to you?'' Pedro asked.

''Orders from above sir. The housing commission asked us to do it,'' the leader of the men demolishing the house said to Pedro and handed a ruffled-up document over to him.

It was a stamped order from the housing commission to carry out the demolition.

Pedro's shoulder dropped as he turned to look at Greg in the car. He shook his head, indicating that what was going on was beyond them. The house was going to be brought down to the ground, and the land it used to stand on would go to new owners.

''Damien has decided to take his anger at you up a notch,'' Pedro said as he slid back into the car and handed the document over to Greg.

It was right there. A heavy seal was stamped on the document to indicate that the order being given was from the government.

Greg was short of words as he read the order. Tears filled his eyes as memories of him and Laura flashed through his mind. If anyone had told him that Laura would turn her back on him like this, he would argue in her favour. Yet, here he was. A victim of the very lady that he stood up for and ended up in jail for.

''Let's go to my house. You need to clean up. You look like you need a warm bath and some rest. You'll figure everything out later,'' Pedro said and rolled the car away from Greg's former house.

Later that night, Greg insisted on staying indoors while Pedro went into the city to whirl away the night.

''Since you don't want to celebrate your freedom, then I will gladly help you,'' Pedro said as he shut the door behind him and left.

''Forget about Laura. She's a tramp,'' he yelled as he left.

Anytime Greg heard Laura's name, his heart will pierce. As if someone stabbed him in the chest.

He was alone now, so he cried his eyes out and screamed Laura's name so many times and pretty loudly that dogs in the neighbourhood heard him and started to bark. Greg would have died in jail if not for the hope of returning to Laura at the back of his mind. It was because of this hope he had in seeing Laura again that made him give in to an advanced man that had been trying to be his friend in jail for a long time.

Greg had ignored this man and stayed on his own most of the time until he got into trouble one day with a gang of ruthless inmates. It was this mysterious man that had been begging to be his friend that saved him. If not, he likely would have wound up dead.

''Hello, my name is Carl,'' the mysterious man told Greg with his hand outstretched for a handshake after he beat up Greg's opposition, single-handedly.

Greg stared at the man in shock.

''Tha...thanks,'' Greg said as he accepted his handshake.

''May I?'' Carl asked, pointing at the empty seat beside Greg. He had a smile on his face that screamed how satisfied he was to eventually make Greg's acquaintance.

''My name is Greg,'' Greg said.

''I know who you are,'' Carl replied with a cheeky smile.

The way Carl looked and spoke as gently as he did, gave him a different aura from the man Greg witnessed beating up those wild inmates.

''How do you know me?'' Greg asked.

''I know your dad. He used to be a legendary martial arts fighter. He thought me everything I know. It was unfortunate he had to leave us when he did. How come you don't know anything about martial arts when your father was such a great man?'' Carl asked.

Greg looked away abruptly.

''I...I hated my father,'' he replied. ''I don't want to talk about this. I knew I should have stayed away from you,'' Greg said and was going to leave when Carl grabbed his wrist.

''You need me, Greg. Or else you will die in jail,'' Carl said.

''What are you even in here for?'' he asked.

Greg swallowed hard and sat back down.

''I fought with a wealthy man that tried to force himself on my girlfriend, and he threw me in here,'' Greg said with disdain.

Carl chuckled.

''And your girlfriend? What did she do about it?'' Carl asked.

''What would she do about it? Nothing. She cried,'' Greg said.

Carl laughed at Greg for a while.

''Has she come to see you since you were here?'' he asked Greg again.

''No. I told her not to,'' Greg answered.

''And she agreed?'' Carl asked with a broad smile.

''Yes. Because she listens to me,'' Greg said.
