Chapter Four: Little bratty Miss

The following morning, one of the home keepers knocked at Richard's room to inform him that Mr. Rodriguez needed his attention in his office.

He nodded his head, rushed into the bathroom for a quick shower, and hurriedly got dressed.

Then, he followed the staff out of the room and unto the long hallway that was illuminated by different light bulbs overhead.

As he walked down the hallway, he kept stealing short glances at his reflection in the mirrors that there lined up in the hallway.

Soon, he got to Mr. Rodriguez’s office.

Mr. Rodriguez was seated at the head of a large brown mahogany table. There were several open files in front of him and he rested his head on the palm of his right hand.

“You woke up late. Is that a habit or something new?” Mr. Rodriguez shot, not raising his face to look at him.

Richard nodded. “No. It isn’t an habit. I was awake long before the messenger came for me” He lied as he returned the stare at Mr. Rodriguez.

As a big boss, Richard was already used to waking up at his own leisure and even if there was an emergency, there were teams to handle them.

“I want you to meet my daughter and I also want us to discuss the terms of our contract” James Rodriguez said immediately.

“That’s alright, Sir”

“Have a seat” Mr. Rodriguez said, pointing at a vacant chair that was directly across him.

Richard sat immediately and even though James had an overbearing presence, his shoulders and back were ramrod straight as he placed his arms on both sides of the chair.

James frowned slightly, not used to his presence not being intimidating especially if it was some bodyguard from the rural areas.

However, he said nothing after all, he couldn’t ask him to tone down his aura. However, he was very pleased when he saw Richard’s eyes begin to wander around the room.

The various awards and prestigious certificates that Mr. Rodriguez and his companies had received were all lined up on a small white shelf behind him.

There was a bookshelf just by the window that rose up to the ceiling of the office and was well stock with books.

On the other side of the office, there was a water dispensing machine, an average-sized refrigerator, and a coffee maker.

The air-conditioning unit buzzed with a lull in the room, filling it up with a distinct white noise.

Mr. Rodriguez had gotten engrossed by something on his laptop which was open before him while Richard fought the urge to pull out his phone and flip through the phone as a means of fighting the boredom.

Soon, the door of the office was flung open and a young girl walked in, talking loudly at the top of her voice.

Her thick red hair was held up above her hair in a ponytail while she had large loop earrings that dangled from her ears. Her pointed nose was pierced and she wore a set of braces on her teeth.

A young lady came in after her.

“Dad?” She squealed as soon as she saw her father at his work table. She ran around the table to where he was seated then, she enveloped him in a bear hug. “I did not expect you to be at home at this time of the day, Dad. Are you not doing your survey anymore today?”

She pulled away from her father and planted a wet kiss on his cheek.

Her father smiled and gently wriggled himself out of her grip. “Yes, I would have the survey later today. What was the sleepover like?” He asked as he rubbed her arm with affection.

She rolled her eyes dramatically. “I didn’t enjoy it at. Girls are so saucy I wish I had stayed at home , watching N*****x instead”

“That’s not quite bad.” Her father said.

Her friend who was lingering behind the door spoke up “Elise, we need to get your hair done this evening. Remember?” She called in a loud impatient voice.

Richard remained still as he observed everything from his seat. Just like her father had said, Elise, the heiress had a personality that was more bubbly than he had even expected.

“I want you to meet someone. My princess!” Her father said , pulling her close to him while his body angled towards Richard back so that Elise followed his gaze.

She tore her eyes away from his face and looked at Richard for the first time.

Her mouth dropped open in shock as she studied his features.

He was strikingly handsome.

She unconsciously adjusted the upper part of her blouse to reveal her cleavage then, she looked down at her father and asked, “Okay Dad, who is he then?”

She was slightly uncomfortable with the way his intense grey eyes stared at her and she tried to keep all her attention on her father to avoid getting distracted.

Her father cleared his throat “Remember Charlotte? The daughter of my business partner.”

She nodded her head with vigor, “Yes Dad. We went to high school together. I remember who she is. So, how does that explain the presence of that man over there?” She nudged with her chin.

Her father laughed at her impatience. “Go easy, Girl. Do you remember when she was abducted? Well, that’s the reason this young man is here”

Her eyes widened as she heard her father’s words. “What? To abduct me Dad?” She asked in shock and a bit of confusion. After all there was no way her dad would play with her or even allow her come here if there were some abductors

Her father playfully hit her arm

“No, Silly. He’s here to prevent your abduction. He’ll perform the role of a personal security guard.” Her father explained.

She turned to take a good look at Richard for the second time. He had a blank, unsmiling expression on his face and knew how to maintain eye contact without flinching.

His broad shoulder filled out in the right places and his shirt clung firmly to his body, revealing his figure. He wasn’t bad at all, she told herself quietly.

Then, she looked back at her father, her eyebrows arched in a sharp frown.

“Dad, no! I’m an adult. Stop treating me like a kid.” She shouted “ you can’t possibly hire a guard for me? I need to have a normal life, please. How about school?”

“ That’s my point, princess” Her father said calmly “I occupy a very influential position in society and I can’t afford to allow you to move around without any escort. I have eyes on me now. I don’t want you to be the target of any evil minds out there, please, My princess.”

Seeing as her father didn’t have any look of someone that would agree with her, she turned towards Richard.

“You had better be far away from here when I get back.” She warned with her face clouded in rage and a hint of a sneer.

Without bothering to see her father’s reaction, she stamped her feet on the ground in anger, clicked her tongue and stormed out of the office, banging the door with a thud behind her and leaving her father in a complete daze.
