Chapter 10

The bullies were surprised to approach them in the hallway and they were almost tempted to rub their eyes to make sure that they were not seeing an illusion because if they weren't they would not understand why she was so furious as she was marching towards them.

"Lyra?" one of the bullies called her name when she was finally in front of them, Lyra was the second most popular student in her first year and after that, but unlike Rex, she remained popular on a positive note because she excelled in all her classes though she was not as advanced as Rex was with his fire skill she was one of the leading students in his year.

She had never once looked his way before Rex thought in his mind as she walked towards them.

"Don't you guys ever get tired of picking on Rex, he didn't even do anything to you!"

she said to the bullies as she whipped back her brown hair that had golden highlights.

"Come on, Lyra, are you sure that you saw us right?"

said the only girl among the bullies who had always been jealous of Lyra as well.

"We were just messing around with friends, why are you poking your nose into our business...?!"

"I've already told you guys that none of you is my friend..."

"Shut up you loser!"

Rex looked over to Lyra and then said in a softer tone. But before he could speak the shorter bully grabbed the girl in their group by her waist because she looked like she wanted to pick a fight with the most popular girl in their entire year in fact the university.

"I'll decide what is my business and what is not..." said Lyra confidently as she crossed her hands together.

"And guess what? you guys are causing a little ruckus and bothering someone who didn't even offend you in the first place so now it is my business..."

The bullies, especially the girl amongst them, were now growling like rabid beasts that had been starved for days before they were suddenly let out. While they did not want to show it they knew that the girl Lyra would wipe the floor with them.

But too many people were looking at them at that moment and they knew that if they backed away now they knew that they would become the laughing stock of the whole university.

She was a genius since their first year even though she had initially been overshadowed by Rex and now everyone knew how talented she was so even attempting to pull a fight would be stupid too.

"It's not like we can't totally take you...but we are just going to let this slide cause we are in a good mood..."

Said the tallest in the group signalling the others to come along with him while Lyra tilted her head with an almost amused smirk.

"Lucky me, I wonder what would have happened if it wasn't for the chances that I caught you in such a generous mood..."

As they were going the shorter male glared at Rex giving him a dirty look with his eyes.

"Speaking of luck, good thing your girlfriend showed up right?

"She's not my girlfriend!"

He said glaring at the bullies after they said that

"Yeah lucky him, why didn't you start hiding behind her sooner?"

Said the taller guy and then Rex could not take it anymore, he wasn't even the one that called her over, she was the one that came to help him by herself and they were making it seem as if he would be shivering in a corner if she hadn't shown up.

"You guys don't just like spouting nonsense, so why don't you try proving all your big talk?"

"I think I should be saying that to you, you are the one that is always acting all big," said the bully.

"Fine, let's do this Kelvin..."

Rex called the bully by his name.

"in the next exam if you score higher than me then I will give you 100 gold bars..."

Everyone was looking at him with utter shock, a hundred gold bars? Did he live in a mining cave because that was the only way a university student could possess that much gold unless he was royalty?

"Deal..."

The bully said bringing out his hand to give them a handshake to confirm the deal.

"You understand that if you have to deliver a hundred gold bars when you lose right?"

After Rex said that without holding out his hand to shake the bully the other boy looked as if he was to pop out all the veins in his head.

"I can't wait to wipe that cocky look on your face...let's go guys..."

After the bullies left reality began to creep back into Rex's mind while he was a genius he only had two enchantments, one he had only begun enhancing and levelling up which was a huge disadvantage on his part.

"Are you okay?"

He nearly jumped out of his skin when I felt the hand on his shoulder and then he turned and confirmed that it was Lyra.

"Are you okay Rex?"

he sighed.

"I'm fine, and I don't mean to sound ungrateful or anything like that but it's best you don't butt into anything that concerns me in future..."

"But why?"She asked him in a confused tone.

"Why?"

He said, taking his fingers through his head.

"Why would you in the first place? don't you like being popular or would you rather be infamous and bullied like me?"

The girl looked down for a moment and then back at him.

"I don't care what people like them say anyways so you don't have to worry about that..."

Rex shook his head.

"I actually do..."

he said, turning his back on her.

"Where are you going? To class, I can walk with you..."

Once again he shook his head, refusing her offer.

"Thanks but I don't need your protection, let's just keep being strangers…"
