DINNER WITH THE FAMILY.
CHAPTER 1: DINNER WITH THE FAMILY.Driving through the bustling streets of the city that never sleeps, New York City, Jack sat quietly in the car, with his wife, Jessica, beside him. Despite the swell time they seemed to have had at where they came from, Jessica suddenly switched mood when they got into the car. Of course, she was exuberant and all smiles at the party, which was all an act. She had to, and had gotten quite good at it. The couple attended the birthday party of Gordon Quaid, a retired CEO of a hedge fund, and there were other men and women of notoriety present at the party. Like Jekyll and Hyde, the "Hyde" part of Jessica emerged the moment they left the party. And as usual, Jack was expecting to receive the most obnoxious of complaints thrown at him. And true to his expectation, Jessica did."What was that for?" Jessica asked, looking away. "What was what for?" Jack asked, furrowing his brow slightly as he looked at his wife. She scoffed derogatorily and turned tow
THE LAST STRAW.

It makes you do unexpected things," Michael chuckled, looking up at Jessica. She gulped, stunned at Michael's bold gesture. "I want to spend the rest of my waking days next to you, and our days filled with love. So, Jessica Sean, will you marry me?" Michael popped the big question, right in front of everyone. Jack's mouth gaped as he looked in shock. Then he chuckled, "Guys, that's a good one. You almost got me." But the look in their faces wasn't altered. If they were acting, they did a pretty good job of keeping up with the act. Jessica's cousin, Margaret, got her phone and recorded all that went down at that moment. Jessica nervously looked around, smiling mildly. She saw the excited faces of her parents. Her mom even subtly nodded in affirmation. She finally turned at looked at Jack, her husband. The smile on her face faded as s
A DAY TO NEVER FORGET.

She sighed, shutting her eyes for a while, then she opened them. The house was awfully quieter than usual. Her eyes darted around and she stumbled upon an inconspicuous framed picture of herself and Jack. She walked over to where it was, at a corner beside the dining area. She looked at it and a mild smile crept up on her face without her realizing it. She sat back down on the couch, still looking at the picture. Feeling urged, she reached into her bag and got her phone. Scrolling to his contact, she was about to dial his number, but she refrained from going through. Just then, she heard her doorbell ring. She quickly tossed the picture under the couch and walked over to the door. The doorbell was rang multiple times that it pissed her off. Looking at the screen on the control panel, she saw it was her fr

But little did he understand the depth of pain Jack was in. When they arrived, Jack paid the driver and began walking away. "Uh, sir, your change," the driver said, but Jack didn't bother to turn. The driver looked puzzled. "Who is that guy?" he wondered. It was a huge tip for the driver. He shrugged and drove off, grateful for the unexpected.Jack walked into the casino, and as usual, it was filled with enthusiastic folks willing to spend their savings to make a quick buck. None of what went on there bothered him. Not even when some dude flared up, cussing and kicking the machine. He definitely lost all his money. Security had to come and drag him out. Jack took

The discovery of who Jack, the son-in-law they had despised, truly was, was a slap in the face. They had been underneath him all along and never knew. They all sat as they watched the now transformed Jack mingle with men of notoriety, billionaires, and politicians, while they sat down quietly, trembling as they recounted all the despicable things they did to him."How- How is this possible, Jessica?" Mrs Sean asked, turning to her daughter. But Jessica didn't care to reply. "Michael?" she said, squinting her eyes. Yawning, she stretched herself."You didn't tell anyone you were leaving, nor were you answering your calls. You had us all worried." "Like anyone cares," she snorted sluggishly. "That should be the least of anyone's worries right now."Shrugging aside their concern, she stood up. To her, it was petty. She staggered as she got up, falling back on the couch. "Whoa! Are you alright?" Michael asked as he rushed to her. She was smitten by a slight migraine, causing her to scrunch her face."I'm fine. Just, leave me alone," she said, pushing him off of her as she got up again. But Michael held her nevertheless, supporting her as he saw she was dazed."Gosh. You reek of alcohol," Michael noted, but there was no bottle or glass of alcohol lying aroun

She got up, stumbling her way to her bathroom, and washed her face in the sink. With the water still running memories of the previous night flooded her head, disrupting the momentary peace she had as she woke up. She looked down at the running water as negative thoughts invaded her mind. She suddenly gasped as she was startled, turning to the door. "Hey. Are you okay? How are you feeling?" Michael asked, looking concerned. " I-I'm fine," she replied, then looked away. Michael walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "You're still bummed out from yesterday, huh? Having set the file on the table, Genevieve sat beside Jack. Jack sighed and looked at the board members, who comprised nine men and three women, all people of notoriety in their own regard."Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
