CHAPTER 3: A DAY TO NEVER FORGET.
Jessica returned from work, tired and exhausted. She flung her bag on one of the couches, then she slumped onto the couch, kicking away her heels. She sighed, shutting her eyes for a while, then she opened them.
The house was awfully quieter than usual. Her eyes darted around and she stumbled upon an inconspicuous framed picture of herself and Jack. She walked over to where it was, at a corner beside the dining area.
She looked at it and a mild smile crept up on her face without her realizing it. She sat back down on the couch, still looking at the picture. Feeling urged, she reached into her bag and got her phone.
Scrolling to his contact, she was about to dial his number, but she refrained from going through. Just then, she heard her doorbell ring. She quickly tossed the picture under the couch and walked over to the door.
The doorbell was rang multiple times that it pissed her off. Looking at the screen on the control panel, she saw it was her friends at the door. She sighed and opened the door.
"Hey!" two of them chorused cheerfully. The other stood holding two boxes of pizza.
Jessica rolled her eyes as she turned and walked in. Her friends walked in, shutting the door behind them.
"What are you girls doing here?" Jessica inquired.
"We heard about what happened, and we came to cheer you up. We know how devastating it is to be separated from the one you love," Khloe replied, making puppy dog eyes.
"Like you care," Samantha scoffed.
"Come on. I'm not heartless. Well, maybe a little when it comes to her husb- Sorry, ex-husband," Khloe responded, laughing.
"I say good riddance," Cameron hissed. "He was a worthless dead weight, causing you to lag. I'm glad you can now finally spread your wings and fly."
"Well, she's been spreading something else even before the divorce alright," Khloe chipped in, pursing her lips as she looked away.
Jessica scoffed, not responding to Khloe's assertion. They all knew she was saying the truth.
"Anyway, I hear congratulations are in order," Cameron said. Jessica and Samantha furrowed their brow, looking at Cameron.
"Word flies around quickly, darling," Cameron added.
"He just couldn't keep his big mouth shut even when I asked him to, could he?" Jessica said frustratedly.
"Come on, girl. It's too good a news to not share with others. I'm sure Michael was just overjoyed," Khloe defended.
"Yeah right," Jessica scoffed. "
"Well, we're not just here to cheer you up, but to also celebrate. And you know how we do it, beer and pizza!" Khloe said, full of excitement.
"Where do you keep the beer again?" Khloe asked, looking at Jessica.
"Are you seriously asking me that question?"
"Right. The fridge," Khloe said, then she and Cameron got up and went to the kitchen, leaving Jessica and Samantha.
"I'm sorry if I don't share the same opinion as those two, but I've got to tell you, you've lost a rare gem," Samantha said.
"Well, no man is irreplaceable," Jessica responded.
"That's where you're gravely wrong, Jess. You're gravely wrong." Samantha said no further.
"Jack is going to come back, begging me to take him back. You'll see. He is nothing without me."
"You really think he would stoop so low?" Samantha asked, raising her brow.
"You bet."
Samantha shrugged, saying nothing further, but just chuckled. Soon after, Khloe and Cameron returned with bottles of beer and handed them to Jessica and Samantha, but Samantha declined.
"I'll help myself to something less alcoholic," she said, and headed to the kitchen. The rest opened their bottles and began devouring the pizza.
"We should go out tomorrow, and do something fun. It's been a while," Cameron suggested.
"Well, that won't be possible for me. Maybe some other time," Jessica replied.
"Why?" Khloe asked, munching on the slice of pizza she held.
"I have an important event I can't miss for anything in the world."
"Ooh. Don't tell me it's a romantic getaway with Mr Rich and Successful." Khloe raised her brow twice, while Cameron whistled.
"Far from it. Tomorrow is the inauguration of the new President of the Rosker Group," Jessica replied.
"Are you saying Mr Norman Rosker is stepping down, and handing over the leadership of the conglomerate to someone else?" Samantha asked as she returned.
"Not just anyone. His sole heir, Jack Rosker," Jessica answered.
"Holy shit. Whoever his son is, he is made for life. I'd do anything to be his woman," Cameron said.
"Since your company is a subsidiary of the Rosker Group, you're obligated to be there," Khloe said, and Jessica nodded in affirmation.
"Tomorrow is definitely going to be a day many won't forget in a hurry," Samantha said, then gulped some of the grape wine she helped herself to.

Michael waited in the living room as Jessica was getting ready for the inauguration ceremony the next day. He came over to pick her up so that they could both arrive there together.
Not long after he arrived, she was done getting ready and descended the stairs, meeting Michael.
"You look spectacular as always."
"Thank you," Jessica smiled. "Shall we?"
"Of course," he replied, then they headed out. They used Michael's car to go to the inauguration.
While his chauffeur drove them, he asked, "Heard from Jack?"
"No," she replied.
"It's been two weeks and he hasn't come to get his things. We're going to have to get rid of his things soon and rid ourselves of any trace of him. It's now the two of us," Michael said, smiling.
Just then, she got a call from her dad. She sighed and reluctantly answered the call.
"What?! How can they retract their funding?" Jessica asked, her pupils dilating. Michael furrowed his brow in concern, looking at her.
"But why would they do such a thing? They know it's for their benefit, and not us alone," Jessica responded, then ended the call.
"What is it?" Michael inquired, eagerly curious to know what the matter was.
"The Rosker Group has pulled its funding from the company."
"What? Why?" Michael asked.
"They gave no reason," she sighed. We really need to get to the inauguration and sort things out.
They finally arrived at the venue of the inauguration, Rosker Group Headquarters. They alighted and directed into the magnanimous and majestic conference hall, while the driver was directed where to park the car.
As they got in, they found that the conference hall was packed with guests already there. They were mostly captains of industries, key political figures.
"Hey, Jessica," a familiar voice called prompting Jessica to turn.
"Mom," Jessica said, hugging her. Her dad and sister approached them.
"Hey, Dad," she greeted, hugging him as well.
"Today is a monumental day, sweetie. It's our opportunity to get in the good graces of the new President. You know what's at stake. Without the funding, we're done for. Mr Norman is quite unapproachable, but I believe the new President would give us a listening ear," Mr Sean said.
"I'll make sure to do my best," Jessica replied, cracking a mild smile.
"You look good, sis," Peggy said, chewing gum.
"I always do," she replied, smiling. Peggy scoffed, shaking her head gently as she turned her gaze to Michael.
"Wow! Look," Mrs Sean pointed in a direction. "Even the Secretary of State is present. The Roskers sure hold a lot of influence in this country."
"They are the third most powerful family in America, so what else were you expecting?" Michael responded.
"Excuse me," Jessica said, walking away to mingle with some folks she was acquainted with.
Well-dressed servers mingled through the crowd of guests and served them wine. A band played music in the background, keeping the atmosphere lively. A lot of chattering filled the air.
At exactly 7:30 pm, someone cleared his throat through the microphone on the stage, drawing the guests' attention.
"Good evening, everyone. Please, could we all take our seats as we commence, so we can be done with the reason we're all here shortly?" the man said.
All the guests sat down. Michael, Jessica, and her family sat close to the stage, occupying two tables.
"Please, let's welcome Mr Norman Rosker," the event anchor said. All the guests gave him a standing ovation as he took the stage.
"Thank you," Mr Norman appreciated, then they all sat down, paying rapt attention to him.
"A new dawn is upon us all. It has been a great ride thus far, working with every amazing person who has been a part of this journey for the past four decades. And it is my hope that you all extend the same courtesy I was shown as my son takes over," Mr Norman began.
"So ladies and gentlemen, I hereby present to you the President of Rosker Group, my son, Jack Rosker." Saying that, Mr Norman stretched his hand toward the crowd, pointing at the front entrance.
The spotlight shines there, revealing the new President. All the guests stood up, clapping cheerfully as he walked gallantly through the walkway amid the guests.
As he got close to where Jessica and her folks stood, her heart thumped and her eyes widened. Even though the new President had a low taper haircut, and his hair was way shorter than her ex-husband's, Jessica could still see an uncanny resemblance that got her trembling.
"Is it just me, but why does Jack Rosker look awfully a lot like your ex-husband?" Peggy asked, furrowing her brow.
Jessica and her folks looked in utter shock and perplexity.
"It can't be," Jessica muttered, trembling.

CHAPTER 11: THE DISTRACTION I THOUGHT I NEEDED.JACK'S POV.The maid got down on her knees as she picked up the plates that had fallen, clattering upon impact with the floor. I was stunned to see that part of her left boob had slid out of her maid's uniform. I gulped as I glanced at it. Why the heck was I not looking away? Was it because it was perky and firm? Was it because I hadn't had sex in a really long while? I froze, staring at the maid's boob. 'But wait a minute. Why were they out in the first place? Her uniform is supposed to be buttoned to the collar.' This thought helped snap me out of my momentary daze as I looked away, clearing my throat. But I had observed a mild smile creep up her face briefly."Oh my! I'm so sorry, sir. I was so clumsy," she said as she picked up the broken pieces. "It's alright," I replied, lacking the boldness to look in her direction. "Please, let me go get something to clean up this mess I've made," she said as she quickly headed out of my room
DARING APPROACH.
CHAPTER 10: DARING APPROACH.JACK'S POV.I was officially done with my first day as President of the Rosker Group. It indeed was quite a day, not just for me, but for a lot of folks. I was driven home by the same men who accompanied me to the headquarters. They were going to be my personal bodyguards. They were handpicked by my Dad, so I trusted his judgement, for the time being, anyway. I made a mental note to have them changed soon.We arrived at the villa, and I exited the car as one of the men opened the door. As I walked in, I met my father in the living room, sitting in his favorite chair, the old rocking chair I grew up seeing him use most evenings. Although I had scarcely seen him use it during the past two weeks since I returned."Hey, son," he greeted. He seemed to be in a cheerful mood. "Hey, Dad," I greeted in response as I sat down sighing, setting my bag beside me."Quite a day, huh?" "Ugh! Tell me about it," I remarked. "You shook quite a number of things, didn't y
A FRIEND INDEED.
CHAPTER 9: A FRIEND INDEED. Jessica sat in her for a bit, unable to head out of the Rosker Group Headquarters, not for inability to do so, but because of the pain of disappointment. With her hand gripping her hair, she welled up with grief. Unable to hold it in, she screamed and slammed the steering wheel of her car multiple times, causing the horn to blare with every impact. The few people around were startled and wondered what the matter was with her. Of course, some assumed she was straight-up crazy, while others were concerned about her. With her head bent, she began sobbing lightly before she broke down, placing her head in her hands as she held on to the steering wheel. "What have I done? How did I not know who he was?" she lamented. Oh, she knew she had shot herself in the leg. After a while, she pulled herself together, sighing as she wiped her tears. Starting her car, she drove off, heading straight to her office. Arriving there, the atmosphere was as gloomy as she looke

She got up, stumbling her way to her bathroom, and washed her face in the sink. With the water still running memories of the previous night flooded her head, disrupting the momentary peace she had as she woke up. She looked down at the running water as negative thoughts invaded her mind. She suddenly gasped as she was startled, turning to the door. "Hey. Are you okay? How are you feeling?" Michael asked, looking concerned. " I-I'm fine," she replied, then looked away. Michael walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "You're still bummed out from yesterday, huh? "Michael?" she said, squinting her eyes. Yawning, she stretched herself."You didn't tell anyone you were leaving, nor were you answering your calls. You had us all worried." "Like anyone cares," she snorted sluggishly. "That should be the least of anyone's worries right now."Shrugging aside their concern, she stood up. To her, it was petty. She staggered as she got up, falling back on the couch. "Whoa! Are you alright?" Michael asked as he rushed to her. She was smitten by a slight migraine, causing her to scrunch her face."I'm fine. Just, leave me alone," she said, pushing him off of her as she got up again. But Michael held her nevertheless, supporting her as he saw she was dazed."Gosh. You reek of alcohol," Michael noted, but there was no bottle or glass of alcohol lying aroun
