CHAPTER 4: A FATHER'S LOVE.
****Two Weeks Ago****
Jack boarded a taxi and headed to The Globe, the most luxurious casino in New York. His cold demeanor terrified the taxi driver. All the driver wanted was to get him to his destination as quickly as possible.
He probably feared he was some killer, or somewhat dangerous. But little did he understand the depth of pain Jack was in.
When they arrived, Jack paid the driver and began walking away.
"Uh, sir, your change," the driver said, but Jack didn't bother to turn. The driver looked puzzled.
"Who is that guy?" he wondered. It was a huge tip for the driver. He shrugged and drove off, grateful for the unexpected.
Jack walked into the casino, and as usual, it was filled with enthusiastic folks willing to spend their savings to make a quick buck. None of what went on there bothered him. Not even when some dude flared up, cussing and kicking the machine.
He definitely lost all his money. Security had to come and drag him out.
Jack took the elevator upstairs and exited at the topmost floor. He walked through the hallway to where a couple of guards stood by a door. Stretching a hand, one of the guards stopped Jack.
"Visitors aren't allowed here," the guard said.
"I'm here to see your boss," Jack said.
"What business do you have with the boss?" the other guard inquired.
"Just tell him Jack is here."
The guards began laughing. Jack looked at them coldly, saying nothing.
"Why the hell will we do that for a person like you? A person like you has no business with the boss," the first guard said. Just then, the door swung open and a man walked out. The guards bowed.
"What's going on here?" the man asked. As one of the guards began explaining, the man looked at Jack. He gasped and quickly bowed.
"I'm sorry. I had no idea it was you," the man said. The guards looked at each other furrowing their brows in perplexity. They all quickly bowed, confused.
"Please, you may go in. Your father is inside," the man said. The eyes of the guards widened when they heard that.
"Thank you, Gordon," Jack responded, and walked into the office.
As the guards lifted their heads, they gulped. Gordon glared at them, fuming.
"You assholes have just officially lost your jobs, for being so fucking stupid," he said to the guards, shaking his head in disappointment. They trembled, knowing it may even be worse than that.
Standing at the door, Jack sighed, then he walked forward to where his father sat, behind a large silver-coated desk. Jack's father backed him, facing the large wall that gave him an overhead view of almost the entirety of the casino below.
"Are humans so complex to understand, son?" Mr Norman asked, still looking out the glass wall.
"How do you mean?" Jack asked.
"Humans are driven by their desires, and as a result, they abandon all reason just to gratify their desires. But some of us are built differently. Perhaps that's why we've attained all that we've been able to attain," Mr Norman replied.
Then he swung his reclining chair and faced his son, looking intently at him. "Are you built like I am, Jack?"
Jack looked down, feeling ashamed. He understood what his father meant.
"Are you built like I am, Jack?" he asked once again.
Fuming, Jack looked up at his father and replied, "I am." Mr Norman looked at his son intently for a little while, then he got up and walked over to him. They were both of the same height, standing tall at six feet and three inches.
"Welcome back, son," Mr Norman said, hugging his son. Jack couldn't help but break down in his father's arms.
"It's okay, son. Let it all out," Mr Norman patted him, comforting him. After a little while, they broke their hug. Jack wiped his face with a paper towel his father handed him which was on his desk.
"It was necessary that you experienced this so that you can detach yourself from your desires and be objective. That's how you stay on top. That's how apex predators like us ought to be," Mr Norman said.
Jack was cold as he looked at his father.
"I have a feeling you are now ready to be who you were meant to be," Mr Norman smirked, while Jack looked even colder at this point.
****Present Day****
Jack stood by the glass wall in his father's office at the Rosker Group Headquarters which overlooked the city. A lot of thoughts ran through his head.
The door to his father's office opened, so he turned. Mr Norman walked in accompanied by Gordon. He took a few steps and met his father.
"Boss," Gordon bowed. Jack smiled mildly as he nodded in acknowledgement.
"I like the makeover. It suits you," Mr Norman commented, referring to his new haircut. He got rid of his lengthy hair. It brought out more of his masculine features.
And he had since resumed working out after he returned home, so he looked way more fit than he was when he was still with Jessica, even while wearing a blazer suit.
"Are you ready?" Mr Norman asked.
"I'm ready," Jack nodded.
"Uh, before that, I'd like to tell you how proud I am of you," Mr Norman chipped in.
Jack smiled softly. "Thank you, Dad."
"Alright then. Time to go take your heritage." Jack nodded to that, and they all walked out, heading to the conference hall.
Jack waited at the entrance with some guards, while his father went in. Jack was eventually called out by his father. He sighed, then walked out.
He walked out gallantly, maintaining a cold look, but he looked tremendously handsome. Flashes of camera lights flooded him as journalists took pictures of him.
He walked past Michael, Jessica, and her family. He saw them but didn't spare them even a glance.
As he took the stage, relishing in the applause and cheers, he looked down and met the terrified gaze of his ex-wife and her family.
He then looked up at the guests and smiled. Then he raised his hands, causing everyone to stop clapping.
"I am Jack Rosker, the new President of the Rosker Group. I look forward to working with you, and serving this great conglomerate just as my father, Norman Rosker, did. Thank you."
With that, Jack was done with his first address as the President of the Rosker Group. An uproar of applause erupted once again from the guests.
Jack smiled mildly and looked straight at the ones he once considered family. Their hearts trembled. They were not able to look at him.

CHAPTER 11: THE DISTRACTION I THOUGHT I NEEDED.JACK'S POV.The maid got down on her knees as she picked up the plates that had fallen, clattering upon impact with the floor. I was stunned to see that part of her left boob had slid out of her maid's uniform. I gulped as I glanced at it. Why the heck was I not looking away? Was it because it was perky and firm? Was it because I hadn't had sex in a really long while? I froze, staring at the maid's boob. 'But wait a minute. Why were they out in the first place? Her uniform is supposed to be buttoned to the collar.' This thought helped snap me out of my momentary daze as I looked away, clearing my throat. But I had observed a mild smile creep up her face briefly."Oh my! I'm so sorry, sir. I was so clumsy," she said as she picked up the broken pieces. "It's alright," I replied, lacking the boldness to look in her direction. "Please, let me go get something to clean up this mess I've made," she said as she quickly headed out of my room
DARING APPROACH.
CHAPTER 10: DARING APPROACH.JACK'S POV.I was officially done with my first day as President of the Rosker Group. It indeed was quite a day, not just for me, but for a lot of folks. I was driven home by the same men who accompanied me to the headquarters. They were going to be my personal bodyguards. They were handpicked by my Dad, so I trusted his judgement, for the time being, anyway. I made a mental note to have them changed soon.We arrived at the villa, and I exited the car as one of the men opened the door. As I walked in, I met my father in the living room, sitting in his favorite chair, the old rocking chair I grew up seeing him use most evenings. Although I had scarcely seen him use it during the past two weeks since I returned."Hey, son," he greeted. He seemed to be in a cheerful mood. "Hey, Dad," I greeted in response as I sat down sighing, setting my bag beside me."Quite a day, huh?" "Ugh! Tell me about it," I remarked. "You shook quite a number of things, didn't y
A FRIEND INDEED.
CHAPTER 9: A FRIEND INDEED. Jessica sat in her for a bit, unable to head out of the Rosker Group Headquarters, not for inability to do so, but because of the pain of disappointment. With her hand gripping her hair, she welled up with grief. Unable to hold it in, she screamed and slammed the steering wheel of her car multiple times, causing the horn to blare with every impact. The few people around were startled and wondered what the matter was with her. Of course, some assumed she was straight-up crazy, while others were concerned about her. With her head bent, she began sobbing lightly before she broke down, placing her head in her hands as she held on to the steering wheel. "What have I done? How did I not know who he was?" she lamented. Oh, she knew she had shot herself in the leg. After a while, she pulled herself together, sighing as she wiped her tears. Starting her car, she drove off, heading straight to her office. Arriving there, the atmosphere was as gloomy as she looke

He responded with a mild smile, walking to the head of the table and sitting down.By virtue of his position as the President of Rosker Group, he was the chairman of the board. Having set the file on the table, Genevieve sat beside Jack. Jack sighed and looked at the board members, who comprised nine men and three women, all people of notoriety in their own regard."Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. If I recall correctly, I met everyone seated here yesterday during the inauguration. It's nice to finally meet the folks I'll be working with henceforth," Jack began his address. "As we get to interact and address issues to

After a few seconds, it subsided, giving her some calm. She sighed, looking around as she felt a bit dizzy still, but she recognized that she was in her room. She got up, stumbling her way to her bathroom, and washed her face in the sink. With the water still running memories of the previous night flooded her head, disrupting the momentary peace she had as she woke up. She looked down at the running water as negative thoughts invaded her mind. She suddenly gasped as she was startled, turning to the door. "Hey. Are you okay? How are you feeling?" Michael asked, looking concerned. " I-I'm fine," she replied, then looked away. Michael walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "You're still bummed out from yesterday, huh? "Michael?" she said, squinting her eyes. Yawning, she stretched herself."You didn't tell anyone you were leaving, nor were you answering your calls. You had us all worried." "Like anyone cares," she snorted sluggishly. "That should be the least of anyone's worries right now."Shrugging aside their concern, she stood up. To her, it was petty. She staggered as she got up, falling back on the couch. "Whoa! Are you alright?" Michael asked as he rushed to her. She was smitten by a slight migraine, causing her to scrunch her face."I'm fine. Just, leave me alone," she said, pushing him off of her as she got up again. But Michael held her nevertheless, supporting her as he saw she was dazed."Gosh. You reek of alcohol," Michael noted, but there was no bottle or glass of alcohol lying aroun
