CHAPTER 4: A FATHER'S LOVE.
****Two Weeks Ago****
Jack boarded a taxi and headed to The Globe, the most luxurious casino in New York. His cold demeanor terrified the taxi driver. All the driver wanted was to get him to his destination as quickly as possible.
He probably feared he was some killer, or somewhat dangerous. But little did he understand the depth of pain Jack was in.
When they arrived, Jack paid the driver and began walking away.
"Uh, sir, your change," the driver said, but Jack didn't bother to turn. The driver looked puzzled.
"Who is that guy?" he wondered. It was a huge tip for the driver. He shrugged and drove off, grateful for the unexpected.
Jack walked into the casino, and as usual, it was filled with enthusiastic folks willing to spend their savings to make a quick buck. None of what went on there bothered him. Not even when some dude flared up, cussing and kicking the machine.
He definitely lost all his money. Security had to come and drag him out.
Jack took the elevator upstairs and exited at the topmost floor. He walked through the hallway to where a couple of guards stood by a door. Stretching a hand, one of the guards stopped Jack.
"Visitors aren't allowed here," the guard said.
"I'm here to see your boss," Jack said.
"What business do you have with the boss?" the other guard inquired.
"Just tell him Jack is here."
The guards began laughing. Jack looked at them coldly, saying nothing.
"Why the hell will we do that for a person like you? A person like you has no business with the boss," the first guard said. Just then, the door swung open and a man walked out. The guards bowed.
"What's going on here?" the man asked. As one of the guards began explaining, the man looked at Jack. He gasped and quickly bowed.
"I'm sorry. I had no idea it was you," the man said. The guards looked at each other furrowing their brows in perplexity. They all quickly bowed, confused.
"Please, you may go in. Your father is inside," the man said. The eyes of the guards widened when they heard that.
"Thank you, Gordon," Jack responded, and walked into the office.
As the guards lifted their heads, they gulped. Gordon glared at them, fuming.
"You assholes have just officially lost your jobs, for being so fucking stupid," he said to the guards, shaking his head in disappointment. They trembled, knowing it may even be worse than that.
Standing at the door, Jack sighed, then he walked forward to where his father sat, behind a large silver-coated desk. Jack's father backed him, facing the large wall that gave him an overhead view of almost the entirety of the casino below.
"Are humans so complex to understand, son?" Mr Norman asked, still looking out the glass wall.
"How do you mean?" Jack asked.
"Humans are driven by their desires, and as a result, they abandon all reason just to gratify their desires. But some of us are built differently. Perhaps that's why we've attained all that we've been able to attain," Mr Norman replied.
Then he swung his reclining chair and faced his son, looking intently at him. "Are you built like I am, Jack?"
Jack looked down, feeling ashamed. He understood what his father meant.
"Are you built like I am, Jack?" he asked once again.
Fuming, Jack looked up at his father and replied, "I am." Mr Norman looked at his son intently for a little while, then he got up and walked over to him. They were both of the same height, standing tall at six feet and three inches.
"Welcome back, son," Mr Norman said, hugging his son. Jack couldn't help but break down in his father's arms.
"It's okay, son. Let it all out," Mr Norman patted him, comforting him. After a little while, they broke their hug. Jack wiped his face with a paper towel his father handed him which was on his desk.
"It was necessary that you experienced this so that you can detach yourself from your desires and be objective. That's how you stay on top. That's how apex predators like us ought to be," Mr Norman said.
Jack was cold as he looked at his father.
"I have a feeling you are now ready to be who you were meant to be," Mr Norman smirked, while Jack looked even colder at this point.
****Present Day****
Jack stood by the glass wall in his father's office at the Rosker Group Headquarters which overlooked the city. A lot of thoughts ran through his head.
The door to his father's office opened, so he turned. Mr Norman walked in accompanied by Gordon. He took a few steps and met his father.
"Boss," Gordon bowed. Jack smiled mildly as he nodded in acknowledgement.
"I like the makeover. It suits you," Mr Norman commented, referring to his new haircut. He got rid of his lengthy hair. It brought out more of his masculine features.
And he had since resumed working out after he returned home, so he looked way more fit than he was when he was still with Jessica, even while wearing a blazer suit.
"Are you ready?" Mr Norman asked.
"I'm ready," Jack nodded.
"Uh, before that, I'd like to tell you how proud I am of you," Mr Norman chipped in.
Jack smiled softly. "Thank you, Dad."
"Alright then. Time to go take your heritage." Jack nodded to that, and they all walked out, heading to the conference hall.
Jack waited at the entrance with some guards, while his father went in. Jack was eventually called out by his father. He sighed, then walked out.
He walked out gallantly, maintaining a cold look, but he looked tremendously handsome. Flashes of camera lights flooded him as journalists took pictures of him.
He walked past Michael, Jessica, and her family. He saw them but didn't spare them even a glance.
As he took the stage, relishing in the applause and cheers, he looked down and met the terrified gaze of his ex-wife and her family.
He then looked up at the guests and smiled. Then he raised his hands, causing everyone to stop clapping.
"I am Jack Rosker, the new President of the Rosker Group. I look forward to working with you, and serving this great conglomerate just as my father, Norman Rosker, did. Thank you."
With that, Jack was done with his first address as the President of the Rosker Group. An uproar of applause erupted once again from the guests.
Jack smiled mildly and looked straight at the ones he once considered family. Their hearts trembled. They were not able to look at him.

This was the worst day of her life. A bunch of negative thoughts ravaged her mind. Right before her eyes, she watched everything slip out of her hands. They weren't hers to begin with. Overwhelmed with grief, she screamed, slamming her hand against the steering wheel, causing the horn to blare. It startled some of the people who were also caught in traffic. Folks who from the side looked at her, talking amongst themselves."Are you okay, honey?" A woman, up to her mother's age inquired from the side. But Jessica didn't even spare her the courtesy of a look, not even a response. She buried her face between her hands on the steering wheel. Shortly after, there was an eruption of horns honking. "Hey! Move it, will you?" the commuters yelled at Jessica. The traffic light had turned green, but

I know you wouldn't want to do anything stupid that would jeopardize your future, now would you?" The girl was in tears as she looked hatefully at the young man, Jack, subdued. A lot of wicked thoughts ran through her head."Hand me the knife," Jack requested with his hand
UNEXPECTED SCENES.
CHAPTER 24: UNEXPECTED SCENES. Jack was home that morning. It was the weekend. So he used the opportunity to kick back and relax. It was quite an eventful week. He was up early as usual, so he went out for a jog, alone. Wearing an Adidas tracksuit, he ran comfortably. His phone was strapped to his arm for effective movement, and he had on his AirPods, listening to his favorite playlist. The neighborhood was quite lonely as most of the neighbors hadn't woken up. It was 7:45 in the morning. Well, not many of the rich folks were given to physical fitness as he was. Most of them start out late after they have turned fifty years of age. Well, not Jack. He was thirty minutes into the jog when he heard his phone ringing. He checked to see the caller ID. Seeing it was his lawyer, he halted and answered the call. "McQueen.""Good morning, Mr Rosker. I hope I didn't wake you up?" McQueen said. "Not at all," Jack replied. "Okay, sir. So, the FTB paid the Seans a visit this morning.""Oh,

Michael called to her as she opened the door but she ignored him, heading down the stairs. He got up and followed her, wondering what was going on."Babe? What's the matter?" he asked from the top of the stairs. Jessica had already grabbed the car keys and was at the door. He knew there was definitely trouble."Jess, wait up, would you?" he called out as he rushed down the stairs. "I don't friggin have time to waste!" she replied and hastened out of the house, slamming the door behind her. Michael stopped in the living room and sighed. "What could be the matter?" he asked himself, pondering for a bit. Jessica got
UNEXPECTED TROUBLE.
CHAPTER 22: UNEXPECTED TROUBLE.Sitting in front of the dressing mirror, Jessica is getting ready for the meeting with the potential buyers of her company. She just finished taking a shower. As she combed her hair, her mind journeyed far. Although she faced the mirror, it wasn't her image that was before her. The angry faces of the miners were all she could see. Their angry voices re-echoed in her head. She couldn't even address the workers. She didn't have the balls to do so. What was she going to say even? She wasn't the one who decided to shortchange them, depriving them of what's theirs. As she drove out, the workers stood in her way, chanting and ranting what they had been chanting all the while they were there. Some of them angrily slammed their hands against her car. Another who stood in front threw his lemonade at her windshield, causing her to cringe and duck. She had the same reaction as she sat before her mirror, unconsciously ducking in fright. Jessica quickly realized

She was exhausted - It had been an eventful evening the previous day as a result of the incident with Samantha's husband. She needed some rest. Her mind was not at rest. Ergo the reason she had to distract herself with the marathon episodes of the romcom. Sighing frustratedly, Jessica tossed aside the TV's remote control and got up. She headed to her room and got dressed. She couldn't sit at home. She needed to go to her company. She took the elevator down, got into her car, and drove off. It was already 2:30 pm. About twenty minutes later, she arrived at the company. But she met a sight that caused her to furrow her brow, looking a bit perplexed. "What the hell's going on?" she asked herself a
