Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1The early morning sun rose, announcing the dawn of another brand-new day. It shone brighter, penetrating through the curtains straight into the room.On the bed in the room lay a man, stiffened at a place, weariness written over his face.Despite the bright light that could pierce one's eyes, jolting the person awake, this young man didn't wake. He didn't even shake. But suddenly —Ding! The screen of an old black, cracked Android phone on a nearby table near the bed lit up, beeping with a soft notification.A message dropped.Almost immediately, the man shifted slightly on the bed, his eyes slowly fluttering. They opened partially, still heavy with sleep.Groggily, he stretched his body before lazily sitting up. He ran his hand through his hair, yawning.“That was a long work yesterday, really." He mumbled, his voice barely above a whisper.Slowly reaching out for his phone, he turned on the screen and checked the time. “Hmmm……exactly six. Still got an hour to rest." A sigh

CHAPTER 2He frowned, confused about why it was so. However, he grabbed the remote on the table and turned it off before hurrying upstairs. This house was his. He had rented it for himself and his girlfriend through his savings from his cleaning job at his current workplace. However, due to his work schedule and the distance from the house to work, David had decided to live in one of the rooms provided by the restaurant for its workers. His girlfriend had been the only one staying in the apartment, still hunting for a job.Reaching upstairs, David paused at the door. He hesitated before holding the doorknob, twisting it to open it. But it was locked.Surprise etched on his face. “Locked? Why did she lock it?” He muttered, shaking his head. Then he knocked. “Skyler, please open the door. It’s me. David.”There was no response. He sighed, “Open the door, please.” he uttered, his patience wearing thin.It was at that moment—“Is that the condom guy? What took you so long, you son of a bi

CHAPTER 3 Meanwhile at that same time at DINE WELL RESTAURANT, a place known for its extravagant but nicely cooked foods, hundreds of customers stood there, their faces twisted with disgust. The restaurant's dining hall wasn't yet tidy. And the person responsible for that was no other than David Taylor. He was the restaurant cleaner. All customers know him and he disgusts them. Only a few loved him. "Why is the whole place looking messy?” One customer asked, clearly irritated. He glanced down at his watch, checking the time. “It's past 8 already. Where's that lazy ass cleaner?" "This is real incompetence," another customer said, face tightening with annoyance. “Aren’t this place ought to be cleaned by now?” "Where the hell is that fucking lazy son of a bitch even?" They growled, furious. Vivian stepped forward. “Sir, I saw him leaving this morning, approached him, but he said he had something more important than this to attend to." She lied with gritted teeth. The first cust

CHAPTER 4Meanwhile, tears of frustration and heartbreak formed in David's eyes, making his vision blurry as he narrowed them at Skyler."How could you? How could you do such a thing as this to me, Skyler?" David continued, his voice breaking heavily with emotion. “After everything I did for you. After you lost your job, I made sure to provide everything you needed. Used my savings to make sure you don't lack a single thing."He paused, the tears rolling down his cheeks. "But this is how you choose to repay me? By cheating with him in our house? On our bed?”His gaze shifted, landing on Everett. His chest tightened.“And you. How dare you take advantage of her current predicament!"David bit his lips, lunged a fist, aiming at Everett's face. But before he could—-Bang!A tight, resounding slap spread across his face. The impact sent his face jolting to the side. He staggered backward, something ringing in his ears.He turned, disbelief and astonishment in his eyes."S—Skyler? You slap

CHAPTER 5Skyler huffed as David finally left, her chest dropping in a deep relief. She then turned, her gaze landing on Everett who sat on the bed with a tissue paper, wiping his bloody nose."Damn, that bastard's something else,” Everett growled. “Thought you said he's a coward. How the hell does his punch have so much weight?"Skyler sat beside him. "I'm sorry, Everett. Had no idea he had turned into a devouring animal. Was stunned."She was reluctant. “But why did you have to text him to come over to the house, Everett?" Skyler asked, disappointed. "Never wanted him to find out this way.”Everett grabbed a glass of water from the table nearby, trashing the tissue paper on the ground. He sipped."But why, Skyler?” Everett asked. "Besides, it doesn't matter how he finds out. He doesn't even deserve an explanation."Sklyer didn’t look at him. She didn’t even reply.Everett sipped the glass of water again before placing it back down on the table. He shifted closer to Skyler on the bed

CHAPTER 6 An hour later…. A cab slowly stopped in front of a towering building and the door opened. David hurriedly stepped out, his heart pounding against his chest–not from Skyler's betrayal anymore but from the fear of losing his job. Right now, this job is his only hope of survival. Skyler had not only betrayed him, but had also set his belongings on fire. If he loses his job now, he'll be left with nothing, wandering on the street, eating crumbs like a slumdog. Quickly, David reached into his pocket, hoping to grab a buck to pay the driver. However, nothing came out. He dug deeply for the second, expecting to see something yet nothing. “Damn it! Got no bucks on me.” He cursed under his breath, slamming his hand against his leg, sweat forming on his forehead. He lowered his gaze, shame and embarrassment covering his face as he opened his mouth to speak to the driver. The driver, dressed in a black, slightly shabby jacket, hands wrapped against the steering wheel, patien

Chapter 7 The telephone in her office started to ring, interrupting the moment. The manager brushed David off and picked it up. “Ma, Mr. Walter is here already.” Her heart jumped before dropping down. “Alright. Thank you. I'll be there right away." She dropped the telephone down and then turned to David. "He's here already, you have to leave,” she commanded with panic in her voice. But David was adamant. He was still on his knees, begging. “Please, Ma, don't do this to me. I've no place to go. Everything has been taken away from me. This is my only hope of survival. Please." But it was too late—- Because the manager had grabbed back the telephone, dialing a number. “Yes. Come to my office right away. Come with some other security guards. Be fast." Not up to five minutes until the call got disconnected, the door swung open. Security guards dressed in uniformed outfits strode inside, batons in their hands. The leader stepped forward and bowed. “Ma, you called.” She nodded

CHAPTER 8 Hearing that, the staff lady who had rushed down when she heard the noise smiled. “The worst is going to happen to him today. Foolish boy!” David's close pal at work, shook his head, feeling pity. “Warned him not to go. Look what he’s doing to himself.” “But S—-” the security leader wanted to argue. "I said, drop him down.” He swallowed hard and nodded. As David was slowly been taken down as ordered—- Boom! The man saw something around his hand. Two embedded letters. It was rightly written on David’s left hand. Bold. Clear. Visible to read. He instinctively staggered backward. One of the bodyguards caught him immediately. The customers exchanged glances. Even David was shocked as he stared at the man. “Are you okay, Sir? Need some water?” one of his men asked, worried and concerned. Mr. Walter shook his head. "No. I'm fine. No need.” His bodyguard swallowed hard, nodding even though worry was still etched on his face. Walter reluctantly walked forward, stand

Chapter 9David slowly took a look—Boom! It was true.Same two letters. Nothing changed. The same way it was written on his hand, that was the same way it was on this man’s hand. Stylishly. No difference.Others drew close to have a look too. They staggered backward.“It's the same. No difference.”"That's his Dad.”"Wow!”Eyes flew wide open, hands flying to cover mouths.“You…..you are my dad? H—how?David's body weakened instantly. It was as if a bolt of lightning struck him.He was utterly short of words.“I know this may be difficult to believe but I'm your father. Walter Taylor,” Walter uttered, nodding his head. “These two letters (DT) drawn here represent your name, “David Taylor". My mother and I have it drawn there. Right on your left hand. But did mine in remembrance of you after I left your mother."His voice broke as he started to explain, a trace of sorrow and deep regret in his expression. “Didn’t mean to leave my wife, your mother all alone with you. Things got so tou

CHAPTER 10Walter nodded, letting out a deep, rich chuckle. “Why not? You are my son. Whatever is mine is yours. Please, come. Right here, sign it.”David stepped forward, grabbed the pen, stole a glance at Walter who nodded, approving him to sign, then he finally penned down his signature on the document.Walter took the documents, scanning them, ensuring they were properly signed. He nodded. “Perfect," he said. He then turned to face the manager. “As you already know, he's my son. So from henceforth, he owns this place, he'll be the one supervising every single thing."The hush in the room continued as everyone watched with bewildered eyes, hands covering their mouths.Only Walter spoke.David stood there, everything seeming surreal. But it was really happening. The manager nodded vigorously, her throat dried with words.
