Chapter 11: The Sellers Family (2)
Cristian ducked behind the nearby couch while Fenrir hid under a table to avoid the peacock’s ice attack. The icicles skewered the spot they had been standing before, tearing up the rug. He stared at the collection of large icicles the size of his arm before peeking around the corner of the couch. Mrs. Sellers and Katie appeared behind the peacock with dark expressions.“My rug!” Mrs. Sellers wailed, cupping her cheeks with her hands.“Where’s dad?” Katie asked, scanning the room.He narrowed his eyes as he prepared to pull them into the dimensional space. That’s when a floating blue text box appeared in his vision.[The targets are not within range. Please move closer to the target.]Cristian nearly cursed aloud as he glared daggers at the text. Why was there suddenly a distance restriction? How close did he need to be in order to pull them into the dimensional space?[Targets need to be within three feet of the user in order to be placed in the dimensional space.]Three feet was pre
Chapter 12: The Sellers Family (3)
Katie sniffled, still feeling the burning sting of her father’s slap on her cheek. She couldn’t believe her father had slapped her. He had never raised a hand against her before. She had always been the apple of his eye, yet he had dared to slap her after she told him everything. If it weren’t for her mother, she was sure that her father would have hit her again.Just thinking about the reason for her father’s anger made her grit her teeth in frustration. The hand not touching her cheek curled into a fist as she imagined strangling Cristian with her bare hands. She was going to make him pay for this humiliation. He was going to regret ever crossing her and her family. Once they got out of this place, she was going to summon her beast like she should have from the start and let it tear him apart. Then she’ll turn that small wolf at his side into a new rug for her mother.“Well, isn’t this an interesting sight. It seems there’s a bit of family trouble going on here.” Cristian’s voice ec
Chapter 13: The Sellers Family (4)
The two women stared anxiously at Cristian, fearing what he intended to do with them. He combed a hand through his hair, berating himself for being softhearted.Cristian had intended only to grab Mrs. Sellers while keeping Mr. Sellers and Katie as hostages. It was the most reasonable option. He needed an adult to get the money, and Mr. Seller hadn’t been a choice from the beginning, as Cristian expected the man to try to save only his own skin. The man would likely choose to abandon his wife and child if it benefited him, but Cristian never expected him to be so ruthless, trying to kill them while trapped in the dimensional space.Just thinking about it enraged him, and Cristian placed Fenrir down as he stood up to kick the couch he had been sitting on. The women screamed and huddled close, refusing to look him in the face.“Stop that. I won’t hit you as long as you don’t try anything funny,” he said, sitting back down onto the armrest of the couch to avoid sitting on Fenrir.“Why sho
Chapter 14: The Sellers Family (5)
Katie’s knees finally gave out, and she collapsed to the ground. A horrible smell filled the air, and Cristian stepped back to avoid the puddle forming underneath her.“Katie!” Mrs. Sellers rushed forward to her daughter’s side, acting as a shield to protect her daughter. However, he was no longer paying any attention to them. His eyes were drawn to the blue text box that had appeared out of the corner of his vision.[The user has obtained a new ability and can exert an overwhelming presence that can paralyze those weaker than the user.]Cristian stared at the blue text incredulously before looking at Fenrir. The wolf didn’t bat an eye and even yawned at him. He raised an eyebrow and was tempted to ask right then and there if this meant he now had aura. Just thinking about it made him huff in amusement before turning his attention back to the cowering women.Given Katie’s reaction and the text box’s appearance, he had somehow used the power on her. However, it didn’t sound that great
Chapter 15: The Sellers Family (6)
Katie cursed, digging through her closet to find any old devices she might still have. Clothes were haphazardly tossed aside as she frantically searched for a phone or a laptop. Anything that would allow her to contact the outside world. She couldn’t believe her mother would confiscate her phone and other devices to keep her from contacting anyone. Hadn’t she seen how much of a monster Cristian was? There was no way he was going to let them live once he got everything he wanted from them. They had to call for help before it was too late.As she shoved a box aside, she heard something fall out and make a thud sound. A quick look revealed it was an old phone, and she snatched it up triumphantly. Her relief soon turned to dismay when she realized it wouldn’t turn on no matter what she pressed. The battery must have died after being left unused for so long in her closet. She had to find the charger for it.“Damn it,” she muttered to herself, searching through the box it fell out of.After
Chapter 16: Living With the Sellers
Living with the Sellers wasn’t as bad as Cristian expected. It seemed that the repeated humiliation and punishment at his hands had finally got through to them, and they were keeping their heads down. Whether or not this would last until the apocalypse was up for debate, but it was fine. There was only one more day left.Cristian looked down at the papers in front of him before picking one of them up. He stared at the list of supplies he had ordered Mrs. Sellers to obtain and smirked. Not bad for a decently wealthy family. The amount of food, tools, and medicine gathered was something he would have never been able to get even if he hadn’t been disowned by his family. They were just a middle-class family who had high hopes for him, only for it to crash and burn the day of the summoning ritual.[What’s with the evil smile on your face?]He frowned and glanced at Fenrir as he said, “I don’t have an evil smile. I’m just happy that things are progressing smoothly.”[Did you plan all of it?]
Chapter 17: Supply Run
When the car pulled up to the warehouse, Cristian immediately sensed something was amiss. He frowned and scanned the surroundings, noticing how several of the workers were staring in the direction of their car. This in itself wasn’t unusual. Given that they were valuable customers, it made sense they would draw attention. The company wouldn’t want to offend them and would cater to them, but the look in the workers’ eyes wasn't greed and flattery. Disgust and bloodlust seemed to pour out of their gazes, though it wasn’t quite obvious at a glance. It was only because Cristian had become sensitive to such emotions that he could pick up on it so easily.Cristian’s eyes instantly landed on Mrs. Sellers, who nervously parked the car right in front of the building. Her hands shook as she stopped the car and pulled the keys out.Had she dared to betray him? It was hard to say since she hadn’t behaved any differently these past few day
Chapter 18: Rematch (1)
Cristian’s breath hitched, his fingers twitching. Fortunately, no one seemed to notice as the burly men waited for orders while the rest seemed to be focused on Fenrir, discussing all the horrific ways they could torture the small wolf. Hearing all the inhumane things they had planned for Fenrir brought back memories he didn’t want to remember, and his body trembled.“If we did that, wouldn’t the wolf die?” Brayan asked.“It’s a beast summoned through the ritual. It should be a bit sturdier than a regular wolf,” Aidan said.“But what if it dies?” Brayan asked again.“Then it dies,” Jagger said bluntly.“After it dies, we should cut it up and feed it to Cristian. Do you think he’ll cry?” Brayan asked, poking at Fenrir.“Do you want to bet? I bet he would throw up after the first bite,” Aidan said with a smirk.“That’s a loser’s bet. Maybe we should keep it a secret and see how much he can eat before he finds out it’s his wolf,” Brayan
Chapter 19: Rematch (2)
Jagger gnashed his teeth together so hard that he swore that he cracked a tooth as Cristian stood there without the slightest hint of panic. How was he so calm when he was literally bleeding out?He couldn’t understand how someone who was a piece of trash with nothing going for him could fight several people and beasts on his own. They had only managed to land a single blow while he had killed several of their own. It made no sense. Was he even human? If Jagger didn’t know any better, he would have thought Cristian was the beast and not the wolf.Suddenly, as if grasping a lifeline, Jagger ran for the wolf that had been left abandoned on the floor. He snatched it up, holding it up for Cristian to see.“You better give up unless you want your beast to get hurt,” Jagger threatened. This stopped Cristian in his tracks as he stared at Jagger. Jagger smirked, thinking they got the upper hand when the wolf suddenly bit down on his hand.
Chapter 20: Escaping the Warehouse (1)
Fenrir’s words brought Cristian back to his senses, and a wave of shame washed over him. He couldn’t believe he lost his cool like that. Yes, getting revenge was important, but it was not more important than preparing for the apocalypse. There was just one more day until the apocalypse, and he nearly messed it up.Cristian removed his foot from Jagger’s chest as he said, “You’re right. I shouldn’t waste any more time on inconsequential people.”He still gave Jagger one last kick before backing away and picking Fenrir up. The two walked around the bodies on the ground and went back to the room the manager had tricked them to enter.Speaking of the manager, Cristian had spotted the man’s dead body in the distance. Apparently, he had stuck around without interfering with the fight and got himself killed. Cristian didn’t feel a single ounce of remorse for him. It was what the man deserved for trying to sell him o
