Trial Of Heroes

[Swift Movement]

I accidentally got this Swift Movement skill after all my status points were dedicated to dexterity. That way, I am able to move quickly as much as twice my fastest running speed without using the Swift Movement skill with no significant fatigue. Acquiring this skill can be said to be satisfying because the skill can still be developed.

Swift Movement which is still level 1 is very helpful in battle. The proof, is I'm currently fighting a demon ape that is able to move swiftly between the trees. With the help of Swift Movement, I am able to keep up with its movement speed.

Getting the surprise attack earlier did get me scratched, but not the second time after I used Swift Movement.

I move nimbly over the large stilt roots protruding above the mud. Then after using a nearby tree trunk to give me a boost, I stab the demon ape's vital area which is also jumping at me to deal an attack. At that very instant, the demon ape immediately falls helplessly.

...

When I woke up, my face hurt from rubbing against something rough textured. I heard a buzzing sound around me, but it was still faintly audible. I slowly opened my eyes, my eyes were so bright that it took me a few seconds to see the surroundings clearly.

In the still sitting position, I saw around me so many pairs of legs that seemed to be shaking. They were confused and anxious about something. Then, I finally remembered that I wasn't supposed to be here when I woke up. And, the same thing happened to me.

'Wait... I don't remember sleeping in public. Moreover, sleeping on hard ground like this. I still have a decent place to live, there's no way I'm sleeping here on purpose... I'm pretty sure, too, that I'm not drunk on the street or anything. I really remember, I was sleeping in my bed as usual...' I thought while touching the ground where I woke up earlier.

I'm confused about what's going on. Anxiety began to creep in.

It turned out that upon closer inspection, people seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Strangers, that's how they surround me and they're in a similar state to me.

Rising from sitting, it turns out that if you see it directly, it's really stunning. I was high enough to be able to see the sea of people around me that I had never imagined before. To the extent, I can't guess how far the end of this crowd of people looks.

Suddenly, a screen appeared in front of me. Or, people also seem to be struck by something. They faced the same thing as me.

The screen in front of me reads Status at the very top. I looked a little further, underneath it was a name and a few things I believed described me.

My name is Kennomaru Hiro, 24 years old with a height of 191 centimeters and a weight of 62 kilograms. That's what I saw, a little bit different from what I remember about my height and weight.

Then there was another piece of information that made me wince. Before I could understand it, the voice that caught everyone's attention sounded so loud.

“Welcome to the Trial of Heroes, O Hero Candidates. Here, all of you will be required to survive. If you are able to pass all the tests, you will become heroes and get the glory. Treasures, women, the whole world will be yours for those who succeed…” explained the Mysterious Figure who didn't know how and where.

Some of the people who heard the rewards after successfully passing all the exams started cheering. Some people were even more frightened after hearing the Mysterious Figure's explanation. There are also those who respond flatly, they were people who didn't care about such nonsense.

"What's with that sound?"

"This, what's really going on?"

“Hey… Someone, please explain to me…”

Then, the Mysterious Figure continued his explanation after the crowd grew even more anxious.

“…The screen in front of you will help you with your exams. Then, prepare to advance to the next stage before the Trial of Heroes begins!”

Finished with his explanation, suddenly a mound of primitive weapons appeared around which were evenly distributed.

I who didn't expect it to happen in advance intend to study the screen in front of me. However, I didn't want to miss out on raiding the pile of weapons to get them. Unfortunately, my distance is quite far from the appearance of the pile of weapons. Coupled with the delay in my reaction, there was only a small knife left after I arrived.

When I watched, people took more than one type of weapon.

"Someone, please share with me..." I said looking at the people around one by one, hoping that one of them would give me a more promising weapon like a sword or spear.

But in situations of confusion like this and strangers to one another, people naturally choose to be selfish.

I frowned before finally picking up the small knife that laid in front of me.

When I gripped the knife, a small screen appeared on it that said Iron Knife. Hesitantly, I touched the screen and a description of the Iron Knife appeared:

Iron Knife, is a knife made of iron that rusts easily.

I smiled wryly after reading the description of this weapon I got.

'How unlucky I was...”

What I will face after the Trial of Heroes begins is uncertain. However, I can guess that the Trial of Heroes is not just an ordinary test. Getting a dangerous primitive weapon, of course, the test that awaits must also be dangerous.

I took a deep breath at this situation. Just woke up from sleep and am still bewildered, but bad luck has befallen me.

I shook my head after realizing, that complaining was pointless.

My attention began to return to the screen to understand everything that was written on it. Starting from the Character Status in which there are several components, then Skills that are still empty.

In Character Status, there are Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Toughness. One by one I touched so that the four components in the Character Status brought up a new screen.

Each new screen that appears contains information as written below:

Strength is an explosive burst of usable power. This strength becomes an important factor in how hard one can inflict damage on the opponent. Because no matter how good your primitive weapon is, without sufficient power it will still be useless.

Agility is the ability of muscles and joints to move quickly and be able to master movements that oppose the direction of momentum. Where, with this dexterity, a person is able to move swiftly and run quickly.

Intelligence here refers to the capacity of the storehouse to store mana or magical energy and at least affects the level of intelligence of the individual himself. Usually, a person who has high intelligence points is someone who focuses on developing magic.

Finally, there is toughness, namely physical fitness, and one's mental health. This toughness is also an important factor in increasing the stamina needed to travel long distances and survive. People who have high toughness are usually a tanker who likes to protect others.

I was so focused on studying the status screen that I gasped after the voice of the Mysterious Figure was heard informing me of the completion of preparations and the start of the Trial of Heroes.

“...Prepare to be teleported in a count of three, two, one...”

I just realized, in the beginning, there are initial status points to help the Hero Candidates adapt to various trials. Unfortunately, I haven't put a single point into the Character Status yet. Of course, I panicked, so I randomly hit one of the character's status components before finally losing consciousness.

...

A gust of wind woke me up. I flinched, then my eyes quickly scanned the area before finally frowning.

"Where are the people?" I muttered.

When I remembered that I had to immediately position the initial status points, I was stunned to find something surprising. The initial status points have been used up, I see that dexterity has 19 points, while the initial points obtained are 10. Then, other components of character status are still only one digit.

Whether the character's status is affected by the body's condition or not, it's clear that the basic points on my character's stats are very small after I compare it to the character's status points that have been added.

Then, I saw that in the skill column there was a notification. After I touched the notification, a new screen appeared.

The screen that just popped up informed me that I had the opportunity to choose one of the available skills. There are six skills, all of them are great after I read the descriptions one by one.

There are Critical Hit, Vital Strike, Eagle Eye, Shadow Step, Evade, and Swift Movement.

Of all those skills, the one that I think is the most appropriate to choose is Swift Movement. After understanding the description, of course I will take advantage of this accidental high agility increase to make it even more powerful.

After I got up, I felt something different in my body. Very light! That was the first sensation I felt.

It feels like I can fly high in one jump.

“Is this what it feels like to get an increase in agility?” I muttered with joy while jumping up and down after learning that the effect of increasing one of the components on the character's stats was great.

Looking at the Iron Knife in my hand, I thought it wouldn't be a bad thing to have a light sharp weapon to carry.

Valley of the Skeletons, that's what appeared in my vision after my gaze was now directed towards the front. Behind is just a towering stone wall without any footing for me to climb on.

Then not long after I descended the cliff where I had woken up earlier, a friendly welcome from a monkey made me get a wound on my back.

The Trial of Heroes has begun!
