Chapter 1

Who are you?

It was a fine morning, which the radiant sun blazed the sky  in its golden touch, passing through the foliage. The summer breeze blew gently carrying dust particles and the musky sweet smell of decayed fallen leaves around Klay Green who was visiting his parent’s tomb in Burberry Town.

They died almost four years ago in a ghastly car accident  he survived but barely, in the most bizarre of circumstances because the wreckage from the car wasn’t something one could walk out from. The lead investigator always told him “you should be thankful always because, you been here is impossible after that type of accident.”

Klay always had a bad feeling remembering that day ,he always felt the accident was rigged because everything seemed to work against them that day, the traffic lights didn’t work, the car brakes failed, and even the auto-detection system for a smart car to fail like that the chances were too slim and the police didn’t investigate the so called accident.

The most shocking question was why didn’t the airbag come up or why was the break lines cut?

The information was hidden but he got it from a close friend  of his in the police department. He didn’t need to be a great detective to connect the dots.

He always planned to avenge his parents but couldn’t

because he wasn’t ready then, but now it was time. He then stood up and wiped tears from his cheeks

with a handkerchief after promising his parents justice for their murder.  He then placed a single rose flower on the tombstone, then said a silent prayer, and turned away walking to his car. Then turned to take a last view of the scenery it was beautiful, but he wished it wasn’t in this situation.

Klay hadn’t walked far when he heard a cry that pierced  through the silence. “Who the hell is shouting like that, can’t someone pay his respects quietly” he muttered. He didn’t know whether to respond or not. He continued to walk away as it wasn’t his business, he thought it was a grieving family that hasn’t come to accept that a loved one was dead. Then he heard the scream again but this time more clearly. It sounded more like a help me plea. “This could be another thing entirely” he thought

“It was from a woman,” he thought to himself. More conflicted than ever he walked back in the direction of the scream and saw a lady in black trying to help an elderly man who was on the ground away from his wheelchair.

He looked at the scene from afar and wondered if he should help her. He looked at her and decided it wasn’t really his business and walked away, currently he had more pressing issues.

Arianna who was far from her personnel was trying to help her grandfather frantically looked up and saw him moving away and yelled “help, please sir”. Klay who was really in a bad mood was walking away when she ran and got up to him pleading.

“Sir please my grandfather just collapsed, I called the ambulance but it is not yet here can you please help him to my car it’s not far away?” she begged him and tug at his coat.

“I’m not in a good mood right now so I couldn’t care less about him right now” he retorted shrugging her off whilst walking away towards his car.

Arianna always had that fiery spirit that didn’t make her back down from anybody. She continued tugging his coat while watching her grandfather at the same time. “Please sir he is the only one I have left I don’t want to lose him I’m begging you” she pleaded.

In the midst of the struggling his hospital ID card fell from his coat pocket on the floor, and they both looked at it on the ground. Arianna quickly picked it up wanting to apologise but then looked at it and realized he was a trauma specialist before giving him back the ID card.

“Please Mr. Green you are a doctor please help me” she pleaded. “I don't want him to die” she looked at him sobbing while tears trickled down her cheeks.

Klay looked at her with pity and remembered his promise to his late master Lee. He remembered how he cried when he dislocated his shoulder years ago and master Lee   helped him. Impressed by how effortlessly he did it, he begged master Lee who made him promise to always help people in need.

The resemblance was uncanny but it was there, it felt as if it were de Ja Vu all over again.

“Ok let’s go,” he sighed as he rushed down to meet her grandfather who was on the floor, shaking uncontrollably while she tagged behind.

He quickly turned her grandfather on his sides and loosened his shirt, then placed his index fingers on his wrist to get a pulse.

“Does he have any illness? “He asked Arianna who was visibly worried.

“No, he doesn’t, his health has just been deteriorating, he is old “she replied between sobs.

With this, Klay quickly placed both hands on his neck and chest and pressed. He used his fingers methodically to trace the windpipe on her grandfather’s

neck using the knowledge that his late master Lee taught him a long time ago in Kyoto before he went to study medicine at the university of Oxford.

After locating the windpipe, seeing it was tilted a bit maybe as a result from the fall made her grandfather to have difficulty breathing, he raced his fingers expertly on different pressure points of her grandfather's neck and chest region, which made some snappy sounds, then he started breathing properly.

Arianna who was scared, and worried now turned, seeing her grandfather awake was crying, but it was that joy she helped him sit on his wheelchair and hugged Klay who couldn’t even protest.

“Uhm Mr. Green can you please give me your phone number? I would like to thank you what you did for me and my grandfather today” she asked him wiping away tears that were trickling down her cheeks.

“No, I can’t give you my phone number, I’m sorry but it’s an obligation, a duty I performed. I swore an oath that bounds me to always help when help can be offered. Moreover it’s the least I can do, you should take him to the hospital for check up but he is alright now”, he said while walking away from her.

I might need your services later in the future! How will I contact you? She asked.

Klay walking away stopped, turned back, and looked at her,” I have a feeling we would see each other when the time is right“.

Arianna understood fully well the meaning of duty, and she couldn’t force him to give her his phone number so she let him go while she helped her grandfather to his wheelchair and wheeled him away.

Then she stopped midway and watched as Mr. Greenstepped into a black Chevrolet SUV. Arianna looked at the car as it went out of sight, then went to look at the grave he visited and took note of the name engraved on the tombstone.

Arianna wheeled her grandfather to the other end of the cemetery, where her company was waiting for their arrival. As she got closer men in suits quickly came and helped her to open the car door, while her grandfather was wheeled in with caution.

Before entering the car, she dipped her hands in her bag and brought out her phone, and quickly made a call. “I want you to provide me information on Mr. and Mrs. Tobias Green ” then she ended the call.

While driving, Klay received a text message from his wife. Without opening the text, his mood changed from being sad to angry. He just turned on the radio and shuffle through some songs while driving.

He slowed down, while he opened the text message on his phone and read the text.

Where the hell have you been for the past few hours? I tried calling your office landline but your assistant said you weren’t at work, anyways ,my grandmother is sick and she needs attending to and I don’t want it to be done by those unqualified nurses you employed  at the hospital.

Seeing this,  he sighed because he knew this was the beginning of a very long day. He started the car again and drove off to the hospital with a weary mind.
