"That's a check for one million dollars. Take it and leave. Perhaps reunite with your mistress and live a lavish life." With red-rimmed eyes, Caroline slammed the check against August's chest. For over three years, she had been married to a cripple, yet all he did was bring her pain. He refused to tell her where he disappeared every month or explain the missing money. Perhaps the rumors were true. August looked at his devastated wife but couldn't bring himself to tell her the truth, not yet. For her safety, she had to remain in the dark. Three years ago, after fighting a brutal war, he was ambushed in a weakened state, leaving him crippled and deemed useless. But August refused to accept a fate bound to a wheelchair. As Caroline stormed away, his Qi surged and for the first time in years, he stood on his own. Now, not only would he make his enemies kneel, but he would also protect his wife from the very family that sought to strip her of everything she owned.

Creak! The cranking sound of a wheelchair resounded in a pathway as a young man in his late twenties wheeled himself toward his wife's room to meet her. As his hand reached for the doorknob and was about to pull it, he heard a furious roar. “Let me guess, you are leaving again, aren't you? Is that what you have come to tell me? Huh? August reed! Tell me! Is that what you came to tell me?” Caroline, his wife who was drowned in her never-ending thoughts, upon noticing it was him, bellowed with red eyes. “Yes, I have to go, Caroline. But I promise I won't take long,” August replied as he went ahead to push the door open and wheeled in. Hearing this, Caroline was more furious. The frown on her face deepened, and she looked around looking for something she could use to vent her anger on him. Just then, she caught a glimpse of a glass cup beside her and without thinking twice, she grabbed it and hurled it at him. Ever since she married August, her life had never been the same.
