Chapter 1
Where have you been going?
Creak!
The cranking sound of a wheelchair resounded in a pathway as a young man in his late twenties wheeled himself toward his wife's room to meet her. As his hand reached for the doorknob and was about to pull it, he heard a furious roar. “Let me guess, you are leaving again, aren't you? Is that what you have come to tell me? Huh? August reed! Tell me! Is that what you came to tell me?” Caroline, his wife who was drowned in her never-ending thoughts, upon noticing it was him, bellowed with red eyes. “Yes, I have to go, Caroline. But I promise I won't take long,” August replied as he went ahead to push the door open and wheeled in. Hearing this, Caroline was more furious. The frown on her face deepened, and she looked around looking for something she could use to vent her anger on him. Just then, she caught a glimpse of a glass cup beside her and without thinking twice, she grabbed it and hurled it at him. Ever since she married August, her life had never been the same. She was molested, disdained, and even looked down upon by her peers. Even her family didn't take her seriously anymore and thus the business she was handling was facing a serious backlash. The Winston family had always valued men to be controlling family business and thus, had been biased upon the females. Caroline has been the most hardworking among all, but to suppress her and abolish her rise to power, she was manipulated by Ms Winston, her grandmother to get married to August and become just a regular housewife instead of competing with her brother. Now she was tied to this man, all he had to do was make things worse for her. Though she wasn't angry at him for her grandmother's unfairness, she just couldn't ignore the part where tens of thousands of dollars had been missing from her account on every day he was absent for over three years now. It was just too much for her to take in. Bang! The teacup smashed August’s leg while its contents spilled on his leg. A burning sensation coursed through his leg and he winced a little. His eyes looked unto his legs and his memories drifted to the past. Three years ago, while he was still in the military, he went to war and fought some decisive battles but eventually, he was ambushed by some rigorous enemies who were out to take his life. Though he came out victorious, it cost him a lot and that was why both his legs were disabled. Ever since, he had been having it worse. Everything that he owned before was lost- his unimaginable strength, his identity, and even himself. It felt like his life now revolved around the wheelchair he was in, and he felt useless and hopeless not until the day Caroline married him. He felt hope surge inside him and ever since, he had loved to the moon, but it seemed his feeling wasn't reciprocated. Perhaps his disabled legs made him have a lesser value to her. On the other hand, Caroline shivered a little after seeing what she had done. Her anger took hold of her, and she did what she wasn't supposed to. The guilt in her chest became a giant boulder weighing her down, but after she thought about what he had cost her just for marrying him, anger surged inside her again. At once, she stood up from the bed and stomped her way towards him. “Tell me, where have you been going to for three years now? “Every single day in each month, tell me where, and how you make use of my hard-earned money. Because of you, my life has been messed up. “My brother mocked me and called me a weak woman. Tell me, where and what do you use the money for?” Caroline was beet red as emotions were going haywire inside her. Staring at her, August nibbled his lips tightly. It wasn't like he couldn't tell her, but it was supposed to be a secret in the meantime. When the time was right, he was going to explain everything in detail to her. “Caroline, please, don't be sad. I promise I'll tell you when the time is right.” He said with a pleading gaze, but this made her fumed in anger. To her, she felt he was lying, and even with how she was bawling her eyes out, crying, it didn't appear like he had any sympathy for her. All she could see was a cold-hearted cripple man who was hiding something from her. If he loved her, he wouldn't let her cry this miserably before spilling the beans. “You! You are going to tell me all of it today, or I will kill you!” She couldn't hold it any longer. Even though she didn't mean her words, she only wanted him to give it all out. Quickly she reached for his neck and started pressing it, but August could tell she wasn't putting pressure so she wouldn’t harm him. She wasn't a ruthless person and he could tell. After all, she was the same person whom he fell in love with. Seeing he wasn't still giving in, she pulled off and changed tactics. “Caroline, listen to me please,” August said again in a bid to console her, but she didn't look like she would hear anything from him apart from an explanation for where he always went. “It seems you are not going to talk, huh?” She took a few steps back and sighed. Then, she began to rack her head up for anything, and in the end, she could only think of one thing that would be the best thing for the both of them. Wiping off the dry patches of tears on her face, she tuned in to look at him, forming a straight face. “We are getting a divorce!”Expand

“Sly fox, what do you want? I hope you don’t cross me with all this.” August said as soon as he collected the phone from Oliver. There was silence on the other side for a short while before a voice came through “Come on, kid. We can set our differences aside. You have seen it, haven’t you? I only have the intention of helping you out, and for that to work, I had to make it believable.” Maxwell started. He realized he must be beating around the bush, so he continued quickly. “You have crossed the legendary grandmaster level already. I saw a clip of your fight with those gods of war. You did kill them. Though it’s their fault, so I won’t blame you for this. But there is something that I need.” “What’s that? And what makes you think I’ll even help you?” August asked.“That’s because I know about your identity. I know who your parents are, August. If you need the information, then you have to work for me. I have a task for you. When you are done, call me.” Maxwell said, and with that

The Legendary God Of War; the rise of August Reed A sly fox!
“What…are you doing here? You must be August Reed, right?” President Oliver felt like peeing his pants as he stared at the deadly eyes before him. It was as though he would be swallowed at any moment if he wasn’t cautious. Sweat immediately broke out of his pores. At this point, he no longer looked like the high-and-mighty president who was good at giving orders but a criminal who was hellbent on escaping the police.“I want us to talk. I hope that’s okay with you.” August's expression suddenly softened as he walked towards him. He then wrapped his hand around his shoulder and turned towards the house.“It seems you are good at being people’s lackeys, and as a result, you have chosen to become my enemy. Do you know what that means?” He asked again. At once, Oliver felt an unprecedented fear coursing through his veins. His head began to bring up scenarios that might happen after he heard those words from August. Also, it was only now that he was able to remember the tales he had heard

The Legendary God Of War; the rise of August Reed Maxwell’s hidden agenda
There were about fifteen minutes left before the order would be passed on and every military person would be patrolling the country to get hold of August and drag him out of the country either dead or alive.Who knows what countermeasures they are preparing to take, but in the meantime, August was standing in front of the White House where President Oliver was. This wasn’t an ambush; instead, he wanted to have a few discussions with him. How it would go depended on how the other party would receive him. The White House was a grand, neoclassical building with a striking facade. It featured six Ionic columns on the north and south fronts, with a central balcony on the second floor. The building's exterior was made of white-painted sandstone, with a mix of rectangular and Palladian windows. The iconic north façade has a portico with columns, while the south façade has a semicircular porch. As a place where the president was staying, it was expected to have very tight security. There

The Legendary God Of War; the rise of August Reed Having no choice
“And who is this black eye?” Ezekiel asked with a frown on his face as he walked to the front.“You don’t know? You can ask the others. They don’t seem as clueless as you are.” Alpha Five said with a grin, referencing his colleagues—Enderson and the others. When he looked, and saw the pale expression on them, it felt like the answers he wanted to hear were written on their faces.“August is the Black Eye, huh? Why hasn’t Bruce given the order already? How many hours are left?” He asked.“Or is he playing us? Why is he delaying? If he had given out the order already, these men wouldn’t be patrolling here or even think of caging us here.” Dave chimed in.“Let’s break through the barrier. What are we? We are the top generals, an entire force of our own. These men, there are only six of them. How can we not take them on?” Matoe spoke next. The whole thing felt like an insult to them. Even if it was August himself who was here, could he dare to be this arrogant to them? Did he want to die

The Legendary God Of War; the rise of August Reed Even after three years?
Bruce said anxiously. Since the situation had turned out to be like this, and it felt like he had reached the end of a path where a wall was standing strong to block his way, however, with this plan he had just devised, it felt like he now had a jackhammer to bring down that wall and force his way through. In the game of survival, one has to use every available piece, or else one would lose. How could he accept this when there was a way out? However, there was silence on the other side of the phone. He didn’t notice at first as he was so lost in his thoughts, but after a while he did.“Whitefang, why aren’t you saying anything?” He asked.“Actually, Caroline, Maddie left the country long ago. August is way smarter than we think. He seems to have predicted our move even before it happened.”“Why don’t you send someone to abduct them on the way?”“They are being escorted by Logan and Bruce. They have tough experts with them and have been on high speed. I am very sure that they had gott

The Legendary God Of War; the rise of August Reed You guys are trapped
“What does he mean? We didn’t directly get involved with what happened to August, did we? How will he come after us?”After digesting what Bruce had said not long ago, they all refused to agree to it. All they did was to receive money so they could stand with Bruce, and now they only sent a few men to kill August.Though they lost some men, it was their loss but not his. They didn’t kill him, nor were they even able to injure him. If anyone was deserving of an apology, then it was them. August shouldn’t pursue this matter and come after them. It didn’t make sense, right?“What do we do now?” Mateo.“Well, we can just go back to base like nothing happened. I think this is the right time we listen to Maxwell. Besides I feel August still has no way to win. He has a few hours left before he will be dragged out.” Dave spoke next.“And if it comes down to it. We will have to fight. We didn’t make it to the position we were just with mere words. Each of us here is a powerful cultivator. So
