Hysteria

Chapter 4 Monologue....

[ I know, I know. You were expecting me to just jump into the story where Benjamin magically wakes up with a system, like all the other system novels...

MC receives a system, MC starts kicking butts, starts getting girlfriends, MC becomes famous and then what?

OR

MC reincarnates mysteriously with a weird set of abilities that surepass everyone else's for no reason then he starts getting special treatment in the military school or wherever the story settles.

It's like, really? Nobody else in the universe has ever thought of this??? MC is always the "chosen one" without having a clear reason why he was the only one who could get the system activated in the first place.

Every single day main characters were weaklings and then they receive a system in death situations like this and then what?

They start Leveling up with the "only I level up" theory leaving the real origins of the system behind. How was it created? Who made it? who was the first host?.... All these questions in your story never get answered.

I mean, I get that it's supposed to be a mystery, but come on! Give us something to work with!

But hey, maybe Benjamin will be the one to break the mold. Maybe he'll create his own system and show all those other MCs how it's really done. Or maybe he'll just continue stumbling through life like the rest of them, never knowing the joys of a six-pack and a girlfriend (or boyfriend, don't judge).]

The officers arrived at the boat crash site and were struck by the devastation before them. Seeing a boat in pieces, floating aimlessly on the water with most of its parts scattered around the shores. As one of them sifted through the debris searching for any sign of survivors, weirdly he found no one.

Strange, but few blood stains on nearby rocks got their attention.

"Bring the drones." One of the Government's Secret Advance Investigation (SAI) officers ordered as they brought forth all the AI drones.

Benjamin woke up on a deserted island, his body bruised as he stumbled around the barren landscape, his mind foggy as he tried to piece together what had happened.

Scanning closely he could not see anything familiar to him. He was very far away, far from home. ' home? Where is my home?' He tried to recall the things that happened But every attempt was met with frustration, as if his memories had been obliterated from his mind.

Hunger pangs gripped his stomach, and for a moment he forgot his woes.

"I need food"

It had been two days ever since he found himself on the island.

Benjamin scoured the jungle, ransacking through the area as he searched for anything edible. The leaves were falling gently from the trees, and the chill in the air was becoming more prominent. Only the moon gave off any light, causing eerie shadows to dance around him.

As he snatched a group of bats into his mouth, the sweet sensation of their blood was short-lived. Benjamin's hunger grew worse, his stomach aching as his heart raced. His focus was now set on his prey - a fast-moving deer. It twisted and turned, leaving Benjamin knocking into trees as he chased after it.

But alas, the deer was too far ahead, and Benjamin's body started to slow down. Discouraged, he watched the deer disappear into the distance, a good 14 meters away. However, his hunger won over and his instincts took over.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of San Diego and his family set out on a jungle expedition, seeking to escape the clamor of busy city life. They had left their security men behind, hoping for a much-needed break from their everyday routine as rich people. Mr Grayson and the two children were thrilled at the prospect of camping in the great A****n, pitching a tent and braving the wilderness with nothing but their own normal problems.

"Dad Ricky keeps on making my bed dirty make him stop" An annoying voice with daddy issues resounded in the tent.

"Ricky stop that. You can do better than this, stop annoying Clara!" Her mother interfered.

"Mum, he has been pulling this shitty attitude ever since we came here. Uhr…I Knew I shouldn't have ditched the party for this stupid vacation. Family vacations with you guys sucks." She says remembering her party and her boyfriend's promised gift.

"Oh dear sister Clarabelle, miss that old party of yours?" Ricky says toying with her.

"See Dad he very annoying." She said expecting daddy to pitch in but he just lifted his head, peeped through his reading glasses then returned to what he was doing without saying a damn thing.

"Clara I think you need to learn how to love your brother" Her dad said with his usual normal tone while focusing on his reading.

"Daddy I love Ricky, I think you are getting me wrong." Clara reassured.

"Oh Really?" He shrugged.

"What happened the last time you took him out?" He finished off peeping at her.

It was true. The last time they went out, Ricky ran away from Clara to one of his friends, leaving her alone to spend the entire night searching for her brother. When she returned home, she was met by the smiling face of Ricky standing beside their father, whose eyes blazed with anger. The police were also present, causing her heart to race with fear.

As it turned out, Ricky had told their father that Clara had been out all night with her boyfriend, causing her to get grounded for an entire month.

She almost cried when she recalled all that.

"Mom look, he is still wiping the dirt on my bed" She avoiding her Dad

It seemed that no one in her family really understood her actions. Even though Ricky had intentionally rubbed the dirt of his feet onto her side of the bed, her parents only saw her cursing at her brother.

Clara couldn't help but feel frustrated, as though her voice wasn't being heard. It was as though everyone was taking her brother's side and not listening to her side of the story. She longed for someone to understand the turmoil she was facing at home.

Clara looked at her parents trying so hard to show how upset she was. Mr Grayson was busy reading some old journal of his while her mother was listening to some whispering of her MP3.

" Mom, were you listening to what I was saying?"

" I'm sorry , what?" She pulled out her ear buds.

" I ……." Before she could finish, Ricky interrupted."Dad I am too cold, the camp fire is going out of flames."

" Oh my boy, don't worry Clara is going to fix it." He finished looking at Clara's way.

" Are you crazy, it's creepy out there!" She almost said with her lips.

" Okay dad, I will fetch some firewood.

She stormed outside the tent, went straight into the hazy shade of the night wishing everyone was dead.

"Honey, don't worry we build the tents close to the fire for security purposes, there is nothing to be afraid of." Mrs Grayson said to her but deep down she wished she hadn't seen that hurt in Clara's eyes while she was moving.

Clara was already outside.

"Honey, what are you trying to tell her? She is old enough. She can take care of herself. Besides she is only sitting near the campfire." Mr Grayson reassured his overprotective wife.

" Come on mom. It's not like she is going to get herself killed by a werewolf!" Ricky played.

Overhearing the conversation, she muttered. "That pecky brat, always making fun of me. I don't even remember the last time he did something wrong according to my mother. Urh" She murmurs to herself as she nears the trees, totally moving away from the camp fire. "Why do I hate this place so much?" She says as the sight of a burnout woods met her sight.

The fire was empty, she needed to replace them. And as much as she hated them she decided to use this as a distraction.

As she walked further into the jungle, the darkness surrounded her as the moon hid behind the clouds. In the distance, she heard strange noises, and to her dismay, she realized her phone battery was dead.

"Crap," she muttered to herself. "That rascal must have been playing games on my phone all day, draining all my battery," she thought, growing more irritated by the minute.

Clara's body was tense, her muscles coiled like a tightly-wound spring. Her frustration and anxiety seemed to bubble up inside her, making her feel like she was about to explode.

But suddenly something else caught her attention. The soft rustle of bushes grabbed her attention, drawing a path as a figure moved towards her. She watched, frozen in place, as a fast-moving creature darted out of the woods.

"Ahh, thought it was a predator," she breathed out in relief as the deer bounded past her, disappearing into the darkness. Even though she was glad that it wasn't a predator, her heart was still pounding, and her body remained tense, ready for anything that might approach.

Elsewhere in the cold, dark jungle of the A****n, a lone figure could be seen crouching within the bushes, almost invisible within the darkness. Suddenly a rush of footsteps could be heard, growing louder and louder, until it became clear that it was the sound of a giant foot striking the ground with each massive step.

As the figure drew closer, the sound of something stomping up into the trees could be heard, leaving a trail of clawed holes in its wake. Clara watched in awe and horror as the creature seemed to move upward, its strength and size seemingly impossible within the confines of the jungle.
