Chapter Sixteen: The Rougarou

"Besides," the girl rattled on as they walked side by side down the long hallway that led to the stairs. "Whitney and Elena are gonna be watching the game as well. Well, Elena's the only one who would actually be interested but she would drag Whitney along with her. Whitney doesn't really like those kind of things. She thinks they're a waste of time."

"Smart girl," Veronica commented, her nose twitching slightly.

Mia huffed indignantly although it was soon followed by a wry smile. "I told Whitney that you two were a lot more alike than I expected. Try as you might to deny it but it's as obvious as—"

"Shh," Veronica shushed the other girl sharply, her facial expression doing a complete one-eighty from relaxed and bored with a hint of cynicism to fully alert and alarmed in an instant.

"What? What is it?" Mia asked, whipping her head back and forth confusedly.

"Be quiet!" Veronica hissed and turned towards the right wall of the hallway along which the classrooms were locate
