Chapter 7: Unexpectedly Attack of Two Wolves

"So you think I can't be a good royal wizard because you think I'm stupid?"

Niff asked, replying to what Arres said a while ago.

In fact, Niff could have immediately replied when Arres said he was stupid, unable to do anything, and careless. But Niff prefers to try to calm down, following Arres until they have entered the forest deeper.

Niff's irritation would risk making him want to punch Arres.

If it weren't for Arres who treated him earlier, Niff wouldn't hesitate to throw a fist. The problem was, aside from Arres having treated him earlier, he didn't have that much strength to punch.

"Indeed," answered Arres who was two steps ahead of Niff. "Are you not aware?"

Niff chuckled. Then laughed crookedly sarcastically. "How could you say I'm like that. Even though I was the one who saved you from being chased by the damn troops."

"It was just luck. If we weren't lucky, we wouldn't have survived."

"Your luck is due to my ingenuity," replied Niff not wanting to be outdone. "You know there is an Agyss orb that can be used to enchant them. Why not use it?"

At that moment, Arres' steps immediately stopped. Luckily, Niff reflexively also stopped his steps before crashing into Arres' body a second time.

"Wait. I just remembered about that. How come?" Arres asked then before turning around.

While Niff had an astonished expression on his face, Arres walked up to him. While holding Agyss' ball which glowed yellow, Niff looked at her carefully.

For a split second Arres didn't make a sound. It was this that provoked Niff's suspicions so he turned his face away, then his feet took one step back.

"What? Hey, just don't look at me like that," Niff give a little warning in a cynical tone.

Arres frowned. Instead of saying something, he sharpened his gaze on Niff. The longer the two eyes that shone cold narrowed.

"Why are you able to use that spell?" Arres's voice was low, provoking Niff's hairs to prickle.

“W-what… do you mean?” Really, Niff did not understand at all.

Ares tilted his head. "You don't understand or are you just pretending you don't understand?"

Niff shook her head. "I don't understand. Don't ramble," he replied, waving one hand.

Arres' face was shocked because he was almost hit by Niff's hand. But instead of retreating, Arres walked backwards with a look that didn't even want to look away.

"Answer me, Niff. There's no way you can use that spell for no reason," Arres insisted.

Niff's heavy sigh was heard. His face was irritated. No matter how many times Arres rambled on about the spell he used earlier, Niff still didn't understand.

Really. If he try to remember, Niff just followed what crossed his head. When the situation just now felt so urgent, the image in Niff's head was spinning with fear: they would definitely be caught.

But from nowhere, a whisper came into his mind. Emfanto Similura!

Not just once, but nearly four times.

Of course Niff felt the urge to get sick of hearing those words whispered by someone else. Without thinking much, Niff, who was caught in an urgent situation, suddenly had the thought of taking Arres' Agyss orb.

Then the sentence was spoken just like that.

And, boom.

What happened was very unexpected.

Niff did not expect the effect of the sentence that was spoken earlier. In his mind at that time just wanted to run away with Arres. Far away from the pursuit of the damn troops.

Even though the ground that was thumping sticking out was actually enough to block the path of the troops chasing the two of them.

"Say, Niff, you have to say—"

"I don't understand anything, Arres!" Nif said directly. So pissed.

Then silence. Arres was silent for a moment because he was surprised to see Niff's annoyance. The steps are not moving backwards. Likewise, Niff was surprised because … why was he upset?

"I don't know the spell you said. What I do know is that we both have to run away from the damn soldiers," Niff finally answered. He had stopped walking.

Ares didn't answer yet. Somewhat surprised why does Niff sound like a frustrated person?

"There's no way you don't know, but you said," Arres replied, making Niff roll his eyes in embarrassment.

"I don't know," Niff confirmed the sentence. "That sentence just popped into my head. I just felt the urge to take your Agyss and say that line."

Niff's explanation did not dispel Arres' curiosity at all. For a split second, Arres' expression was still puzzled. Somehow it feels like a block.

"Is that strange to you?" Niff asked Arres.

Ares nodded his head. “This Agyss orb is specially for healing people, or royal healers. Its power is different from the Agyss power orb that witches, werewolves, or even royal guards have.

But you can use it to bring out the power of the ground. Moreover, the spell you used was a magician's spell."

Niff's whole body was shaking stiffly. His two eyes were fixated on the movement of the silhouette of something from behind the tall bushes. Something flashed just as Arres was explaining about spells.

Like a gust of wind, Arres' words just passed by.

All the focus of Niff's senses is now fixed on a subtle scraping sound not far away. It's like someone is watching in the darkness, sneaking up on them, then later attacking them.

"Niff?" Ares called.

One of Niff's hands stretched out, signaling for Arres to be quiet.

Unfortunately, the owner of the name Arres is not going to give his care in easily.

Arres realized that Niff's eyes were on something. But the thickness of this inner forest made Arres unable to know what Niff was staring at.

"What did you see?" Arres' voice was low, almost a whisper.

"Shh. Did you hear?"

Ares silent. Niff was silent. The two of them strained their ears while Niff gave a signal for Arres to move backwards slowly.

The sound of the leaves of the bushes rustling. In a situation of pitch darkness, Niff needs to determine whether the leaves of the bushes are rubbing against the wind or...

Scratch!

Someone flashed past towards the right side.

Niff and Arres both caught that glimpse. Their watchful instincts immediately ignited, radiating clearly from the look in each other's eyes.

"Arres..." Niff said very quietly.

Ares didn't answer. For some reason, the movement that flashed earlier provoked his curiosity.

In the next second, the sound of scraping was heard again. At first it was so vague that Niff and Arres needed to close their eyes while straining their ears.

Then the faint voice gradually became clear.

Niff and Arres fixed their eyes on the right side of the forest. Agyss' ball light could only bounce up to a distance of ten meters. Even so, they could see that there was nobody among the bushes.

grrrr….

Niff's sense of hearing caught a growl. Not far, but not close. Niff didn't move at all, but his eyes glanced to the left.

Meanwhile Arres, who was on Niff's left side, realized that glance.

"On the count of three, turn around and get out of here," Arres said as quietly as he could.

Niff nodded.

"One."

Arres grabbed Niff's wrist. Move one step back very slowly, as much as possible not to make the sound of shoes scraping against the ground or twigs. While their eyes looked around.

"Two."

grrr….

The growl was getting louder and louder. Not from the right side, but...

"One. Now, Niff!"

"GRRRUAGH!"

Right when Arres called that, suddenly a wolf stuck out from the thick bushes on the left side. Niff screamed in surprise, almost getting pounced on by a gray wolf. But Arres already reflexively pushed his back.

"Arres!" Niff glared in surprise when the wolf stood proudly blocking Arres.

Now Niff and Arres were separated by a wolf that suddenly came out to pounce on them.

"Arres, are you okay?!" Niff shouted to Arres.

"Go! Save yourself, Niff!" Arres told Niff.

"Then how about you?!"

Before Arres could answer, a wolf poked out of the bushes. Almost pounced on Niff's body if only Niff didn't take a few steps back quickly.

"RUN, NIFF!"

Now there were two wolves with shaggy and stout bodies in the middle of Niff and Arres. The two of them were quite far apart because the two wolves were targeting each of them.

"Cliff of Zelf!"

Niff had nothing to think about besides following Arres' words.

Despite his hesitation, Niff took a few steps back before turning around. At that time Niff had turned his head to check how Arres was doing.

"Come here damn wolf!"

The two wolves had already turned their focus to Arres. Niff's worries peaked. But something stuck was witnessed by a pair of eyes.

Arres's Agyss ball slowly changed color as Arres prepared to face the two wolves.
