Chapter 16

"So do you understand what you have to do?" Lucas asked as he looked at an armored knight standing in front of him.

It was easy to know that the knight is female due to her armor, and another fact that can be easily noted was that she is shorter than him. She was fully covered in her armor so seeing her face and body isn't an option.

"Yes." The knight said whose voice belonged to Aslaug.

"Good, I want to keep your existence a secret. Who knows what the other people will do when they learn that a demigoddess is amongst them." Lucas said to her.

"Is that why you made me wear this armor?" Aslaug asked him in an annoyed tone.

"Precisely, the people can't see your face under the armor and more so because you're a young woman. And you know how women are treated in the army don't you?" Lucas asked her.

"Tch! Yes, I am well aware of how women are seen as not fit for battle." Aslaug said with distaste.

"Look, I know you don't like it but this is the way you have to fight. Just keep sure to not use all your power and act more like an above average warrior and don't use your sword." Lucas said to her.

"Why? Since you brought me here and introduced me as your subordinate shouldn't my prowess benefit you?" Aslaug asked him.

"Maybe, but I don't want people coming to me asking questions and more importantly about your identity. Anyone would be curious to see and know the face and identity of a powerful warrior." Lucas said to her.

"I suppose that is correct. Fine, according to our deal I am your subordinate and as such I will do as you say. But once I get stronger I will defeat you and take back my freedom." Aslaug said to him.

"Sure I'm fine with that. You already have information about your sleeping quarters yes? Then make sure to go there and remember, never let anyone see your face." Lucas said to her seriously.

"Yes yes I'm aware." Aslaug said as she left his tent.

Lucas let out a sigh before he turned to his table which had a map of Scandinavia drawn on it. The two sides of Sweden and Norway is shown as he looks at it and analyses it.

'Hmm, some places in the area are obscured and can't be seen clearly. I can maybe use it to my advantage.' Lucas thought to himself as he went through the map.

He had brought Aslaug to the camp the next day and introduced her as his subordinate. At first the people of the army were skeptical but since Lucas wasn't willing to budge they relented. They also stated that should anything happen to her he will bear full responsibility to which he naturally agreed.

"Tomorrow the war will begin. Even though I have gained significant strength I'm still nervous about it. Then again I am going to war so it's a given. I should get enough sleep otherwise I won't be able to concentrate on the war." Lucas said to himself as he lay on his bed.

He kept his armor on himself so that if by chance the enemy kingdom were to do a surprise attack then he would be able to fight immediately. With those thoughts he closed his eyes and in a few moments fell asleep in his tent.

He opened his eyes as he slowly got up and yawned as he woke up from his sleep. He then looked around his tent before he got off his bed and then washed his face. He then brushed his teeth and then went to the eating area. If his internal clock is correct then the time should be 5 in the morning. The war is said to begin at seven so it was told to the warriors to get ready fast.

He reached the area and took his food and sat away and ate silently. Though his silence was interrupted when the sound of a knights boots was heard as he looked up and saw Aslaug standing in front of him with a plate of her own. Lucas smiled a bit at this and then gestured her to sit beside him.

Aslaug complied and sat beside him and then opened the lower part of her head armour and started to eat. Lucas observed her as she ate her food.

"So how is it?" Lucas asked her.

"Meh, this isn't much. Though I guess I shouldn't expect anything less in an army." Aslaug said as Lucas chuckled at it.

"Yes well, we don't have the luxury to care about the taste that much since we are going to war. That being said, the princess is being given good food since she is royalty." Lucas said to her.

"Hmph, so a normal human gets tasty food while a demigoddess such as myself gets none. This is quite an injustice." Aslaug said with a huff.

"Well, they don't know that and we're trying to keep it a secret so bear with it. You can release your frustrations on the battlefield." Lucas said to her.

Aslaug heard him and he managed to see her lips curve upwards into a smile at the mention of the battlefield. Lucas just smiled lightly before he started to eat again.

Meanwhile Olivia who had just finished her breakfast, which was nothing short of a grand feast was now donning her armor as she left her quarters. She then caught sight of Lucas sitting and eating alongside Aslaug as they seemed to be talking.

Olivia had met Aslaug when Lucas had brought her yesterday and she was quite happy with the addition of a female warrior in the army. Her opinion of Lucas rose when she learned that the knight is his subordinate and was impressed at how he stood up for the female knight and this gained him her respect.

"I hope we can win this war Lucas Larsen, I would very much like to have a friend like you." Olivia whispered to herself as she walked away to the commander's tent.

Lucas and the other knights had become aware of the presence of the princess but since she had already left they didn't say much while Lucas merely looked at her direction. Aslaug noticed his gaze as she had also seen the princess.

"Oh, does the young master want to be with the princess?" Aslaug teased him.

"No, she went to the commander's tent and I also need to go there to discuss strategies." Lucas said as she increased his pace of eating.

"Whatever." Aslaug said when she saw that he wasn't as affected as she wanted.

Lucas ate the rest of his food and then went to the commander's tent. After that they went through the plan again as they made sure that everyone knew their part. After they were done with the plan they mobilized their army as they stood in formation.

Across the battlefield opposite to them were the army of Sweden. Both armies were ready for war as they gripped their weapons. Olivia was standing at the helm of her army as she has her sword drawn. The falling sunlight shining off her armor and hair giving her an ethereal glow.

Lucas was standing a few metres to his right with Aslaug as he was gazing at the opposing army as he noted their size. His black and silver armor gleamed in the sunlight as he gripped his blade. He could also see the prince of the Kingdom of Sweden, Eric Andersen standing in front of his army surrounded by knights as he raised his sword.

On his side Olivia also raised her sword above her head. The two heirs stayed like that as both armies tensed. Then in unison both swords came down to the ground followed by the cry of their master's.

"Charge!" Their shouts resounded as the war began.
