Adrian didn't blink. He pulled the knife out in one smooth motion.

Azazel’s body slumped forward, hitting the floor with a dull thud. His eyes remained open, staring at nothing, as the purple shadow magic evaporated from his corpse.

The silence that followed was heavy. Adrian wiped the blood from his blade with a white silk napkin from the table. He sheathed the knife and turned to the Don.

The heavy silence of the hall was finally broken as they gasped collectively.

The warlords, mages, and elders who had spent the entire night mocking Adrian, calling him a thief, a scavenger, and a fraud, now stood like children caught in a lie. They looked at the bloody Dragon knife in his hand, then at the corpse of the man who had almost tricked them all into a massacre.

One by one, the most powerful figures of the underworld stepped forward. Their heads were no longer held high with arrogance, they were bowed in genuine regret.
