Steven laughed uncontrollably at Helen's words yet again, it was more like she was becoming even more comical by each second.

“Helen, why don't you tell me or explain in layman's terms exactly, pinpointing every single thing the Milton family has ever gotten me?”

She scoffed at his words and said;

“Like I said before, at the very least since you are so determined that you got nothing else. But the fifty thousand dollars allowance you have been receiving over the years. Let's minus the five years you were in prison, that doesn't count, but you still received $1 million.”

“I will not repeat myself again, your family didn't give me a single penny. Since you are so convinced that I received such an amount of money, prove it. Bring evidence, but if you have nothing to show for it, you will have me to contend with, I can assure you.” Steven sternly retorted.

Helen scoffed and was about to retaliate when someone walked over.

A tall young man with somewhat brownish hair appeared, his suit well tailored, he was the man of the day after all. Everything about him screamed wealth and luxury.

This person was none other than Jackson Milton.

The commotion was becoming unbecoming and drawing people's attention to them, they were now gathering one after the other to figure out what was going on.

So Jackson, thinking it was a minor issue, walked towards them with a glass of champagne in his hands.

Jackson Milton couldn't believe his eyes as they laid on Steven's.

He never expected to see him in this lifetime, at least not after everything he had put in place for him in prison.

He thought he was long dead and gone, he hadn't expected that he would serve his five year sentence and come out alive.

Hatred and malice filled his eyes, he gnashed his teeth in silence.

Earlier on, he had secretly instructed dangerous inmates in prison, men who were considered CATEGORY A, due to the severity of their crimes and length of their sentences, these are inmates who were assigned to maximum security prisons.

He bribed some of them to make sure Steven didn't come out alive, making sure he’d die in an “accident” there, but here he was standing, and in the flesh. Not looking disfigured at all even in the slightest.

Not long after Diana Guler walked over as well, with a frown plastered on her face;

“What is going on here?”

Seeing that the crowd was gathering by each second, Helen being the drama queen that she was, wanted to smooth things over.

“Oh it's nothing dear Diana… Everyone, please do enjoy the evening. It's just a lowly servant of the family, who was causing some trouble simply because he wasn't paid, but it's nothing we can't handle.” She uttered smiling sheepishly at the guests.

Hoping that her acts dispersed the crowd, but it did the exact opposite.

The guests began to murmur and whisper amongst themselves.

“Is he really just a servant?”

“My thoughts exactly, I mean why would a servant stir up so much trouble that would make even the queen of the Milton family look petrified like she does now.”

“Or could it be that they are hiding something?”

They began to wonder how someone of such low status would dare cause such a scene.

Dianna couldn't believe her ears, she was stunned by Helen's words.

Why on earth would she call Steven the biological son of the family a mere servant?

Dianna couldn't help herself; she wanted to say something when Helen quickly pulled her aside.

“Helen, why would you call Steven a servant, he is the biological son and my fiance.”

“Shh, don't let anyone hear you say that, look at Jackson, his identity cannot be revealed as the adopted son of the Milton family. If word got out that he was adopted and not the real deal, everyone present tonight would regret coming for an adopted child’s birthday and they would begin to look down on him, and we don't want that, so refrain from saying anything.” Helen warned Dianna sternly

“But then calling him a servant?” Dianna Guler

snapped, she wasn't buying that idea.

Helen rolled her eyes and said; “I know I went out of line with that introduction, but it was simply to disperse the guests, who would have thought it would take more than that? Please don't say anything tonight.”

The world had always believed that the Milton's had only one son, if word got out that he was adopted, it would bring about shame and humiliation not just to Jackson but the entire Milton family.

Helen's words rendered Dianna speechless, she had to remain silent and watch how it all unfolds.

They returned back to the scene and when she glanced at Steven who smiled at her mockingly, it made her feel a twinge of guilt inside.

It was indeed true that Jackson's identity had to remain a secret but the fact that Steven would have to be the one to suffer in silence didn't sit right with her but she had no say.

Dianna Guler simply agreed with Helen and said nothing in Steven's favor, but those stares that sneering expression on his face lingered in her thoughts.

Was everything they had done and are doing truly fair to him?

Jackson then forced a fake smile and uttered;

“Do you need any help? Is there anything you want us to do for you? I’ll have it resolved.”

To the guests and crowd they all thought Jackson was being gracious, gentlemanly, thoughtful even.

If only they knew what he truly was.

Steven on the other hand simply sneered but what came next no one in that room expected it.

Steven suddenly left a resounding slap on Jackson's face which made the latter stagger backwards.

He had been keeping his cool not to hit any woman in there, but when Jackson Milton spoke up of wanting to help him? Well no one in his position could have remained cool.

Everyone present was stunned by this, they just couldn't believe it.

How could a mere servant raise his hands on the young master of the household?

Those who had doubts about that finally got their answer.

Helen on the other hand was already furious as for Diana she clamped both hands to cover her lips.

Sarah Milton immediately ran towards Jackson in panic to check on him; “Son are you okay?

Steven scoffed and asked in a thunderous voice; “What is the point of pretending not to know me as the adopted son?”

    The sound of footsteps in the hallway interrupted the light moment. They were firm, steady and masculine. Luisa’s smile dimmed slightly, her gaze flicking to the door. “Your husband?” Steven asked quietly. “Yes,” she murmured, smoothing her hair. “Right on time.” Princewill straightened in his seat, his tone low. “You want me to step out?” “No,” Steven said. “We’re guests.” Luisa exhaled softly, composure returning to her face like a mask sliding back into place. “Remember,” she whispered, “he knows nothing.” Steven nodded once. “He won’t.” The doorknob turned, and the air in the room shifted. Mr. Payne entered, tall, commanding, every inch the man of the house. His gaze moved between Luisa, Steven, and Princewill, he was curious and cautious. “Luisa,” he said calmly, “I didn’t realize we had company.” Luisa smiled gracefully. “You do now.” Steven rose to his feet, composed and unreadable. “Mr. Payne,” he greeted evenly. “An honor to finally meet you.” The

    The elevator hummed softly as it carried Steven down from the penthouse. The city below glimmered like molten glass, yet his mind was elsewhere — in a conversation he couldn’t afford to mishandle. Princewill waited by the car, one hand in his pocket, the other holding two takeaway coffees. His smile was effortless. “You look like you’re heading to an ambush, not a meeting,” he teased. Steven accepted the coffee, smirking. “With Luisa Payne, it’s both.” Princewill laughed, unlocking the sleek black Bentley. “Ah, Mrs. Payne, if only the world knew who you were and how much you hate leaving the penthouse except of course you want to run away, that alone should make headlines.” “Careful,” Steven replied, sliding into the back seat. “If the papers ever find out, you’ll be my first suspect.” Princewill grinned as he drove out of the underground garage. “Relax. I don’t talk to journalists. They don’t pay enough for my kind of loyalty.” “Good,” Steven said, glancing out a

    Helen’s tone softened. “We’ll be careful, Mother.” Harry’s eyes, old but still fierce, fixed on Helen. “And if he disrespects this family again?” Helen looked toward the window, where the city lights shimmered in the distance — Riverage glowing like a restless dream. She spoke quietly, almost to herself. “Then he’ll learn the Miltons don’t bow twice.” The silence that followed was long and heavy. Jackson finished his drink, placed it on the counter, and said lightly, “Thursday it is, then. Let’s see if the king grants us an audience.” ***** Somewhere in the distance, the tower of KE Headquarters stood untouched, its windows dark and unbothered. Inside that tower, a light flickered on in Princewill’s office. He already knew they would return, they were desperate indeed and just like Kahuna' himself has predicted, they will come. All he had to do was wait. Well, he didn't have to wait for long. The very next Thursday afternoon arrived faster than expected. The Milton car

    Doyle’s voice didn’t waver. “And yet Mr. Princewill insists. KE does not move by haste, only by design.” Harry frowned. “So we came all this way for a message?” “Yes,” Doyle replied smoothly. “A message, and perhaps… a reminder.” He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. “In this building, power doesn’t chase, it chooses when to receive.” Helen inhaled sharply, masking her irritation with a thin smile. “Tell Mr. Princewill that the Miltons are not accustomed to being kept waiting.” Doyle gave a courteous bow. “And yet, Mrs. Milton, you will have to wait eventually, because everyone does.” He turned and walked away without another word. For a moment, the silence between Helen and Harry was deafening. They were so upset but kept it hidden with their head held high. When they exited the building, Harry exhaled heavily. “He played us, he took us for pawns!” Helen’s eyes remained fixed on the structure behind them, the glimmering mirror of their own frustration. “No,” sh

    The smell of stew began to fill the room — onions, spice, the kind of scent that felt like belonging. “Eat,” Joanne said softly. “You look thinner than last week.” “I’m not dying yet,” Elias teased. She smiled, shaking her head. “You’ve been hiding long enough, Elias. When will you return?” He was quiet for a long while before he answered. “When the time is right. When the Circle begins to eat itself, because I know it will.” Joanne frowned. “You think that’s coming anytime soon?” Elias looked out into the deepening dusk. “Power never stays pure. Kahuna is brilliant, but brilliance burns. I only hope he remembers the light I gave him before the darkness consumes him entirely.” She didn’t argue, she had seen what that kind of world did to men. After a while, she said softly, “And Raphael? Will you tell him the rest?” Elias shook his head. “Not yet. He carries too much already. But he will have a part to play when the circle tightens again. Princewill crossed his arms. “Then maybe you should redefine peace.” Kahuna looked at him. “And how would you define it?” Princewill thought for a moment. “Peace is when you can sit in silence and know the person beside you won’t stab you in the back.” Kahuna smiled faintly. “Then I guess I have peace right now.” Princewill grinned. “Good. Try not to lose it again.” Kahuna laughed softly. “Mostly you.” Princewill chuckled. “I’ll take that.” The laughter faded into a comfortable quiet. The night outside the window was deep and calm, the city glowing beneath them like a living thing. Princewill finally stood. “I’ll post guards outside. Get some rest, Kahuna.” Kahuna looked up. “Prince?.” Princewill turned. “Yeah?” “Thank you,” Kahuna said simply. “For not giving up on me.” Princewill smiled. “You are welcome and that is what, brothers are for, just don’t disappear again.” Kahuna gave a faint nod. “I’ll try.” Princewill started toward the door. “Try harder.”
