“Oh, no one,” Ciara faked a smile as Prince Henry approached her. He kept his eyes fixed on her before he sat on the bed, pulling his coat off.

“Your useless husband quit his job. Did he tell you that?” Henry asked Ciara.

She gasped when she heard the news, feigning ignorance.

“Oh my prince, I did not know. That arrogant punk is good for nothing. We should not bother ourselves about him,” she told the Prince who nodded in silence.

“There was something about him. Something different. It was like… he had a mind of his own. A different mind. I couldn't quite put my hands on it,” Prince Henry said softly.

His mind roamed back to the conscription day.

“And he has joined the army as well. Can you imagine that? Adrian, of all people?” He chuckled.

Ciara just stood there and listened to all of this. She didn't know about any of them. And somehow, it appeared as if Adrian had changed.

“He's probably doing all of this to make me sorry. It's an act. What a lazy way to get my attention,” Ciara thought to herself and rolled her eyes.

Touching Henry's shoulders seductively, she kissed his hair.

“That's alright my prince. Good riddance, is it not? He used to corrode this place with his presence. Let the fucker rot on the streets for all I care!” She snapped.

Prince Henry raised his brow. “On the streets? What do you mean?* He asked her.

Ciara chuckled as she rolled her eyes

“I divorced the bastard. Now he has nothing!” She said to Henry.

A moment of silence passed as Prince Henry froze on the spot. Ciara could sense the tension in the air.

“My prince… is everything alright?” she asked, genuinely worried.

“Tell me I didn't just hear you say that you divorced Adrian…” Henry breathed through his mouth.

Ciara was perplexed. “But my prince, the animal had it coming. He even assaulted my father. I couldn't forgive that-”

“And you thought divorcing him was the best thing to do? Fuck! Ciara! How could you be so fucking stupid?”

Prince Henry yelled at her and stood on his feet. Ciara's heart raced while she gazed at him.

Why was he overreacting?

“But this is good right? Now that Adrian is gone, you and I can be together. We can ask a petition from the king and he would grant it and allow us get married…”

Prince Henry laughed when she said this. He roamed around the room, sniffling like a man possessed by some entity.

“I cannot believe that you're this naive, Ciara. I am a Prince. You're not even royalty. The law states that only royalty can marry the Prince. The law won't change for you,”

The words hit Ciara like a tornado. She froze.

“What are you saying?” She muttered.

“I'm saying that you should have listened to me and removed that - thing -” he pointed to the pregnancy, “before it became so obvious.”

Ciara's heart sank.

“Thing? This is your child, my prince. You asked me to marry Adrian because you needed time to change the law for us.” Ciara gasped.

“I asked you to get an abortion but you refused. Of course I told you that to get your whining ass off my back! The law cannot be changed. You cannot become my wife. Not now, not ever!”

Henry said to her.

Tears fell from Ciara’s eyes. She couldn't believe this was the same man she ruined everything for.

“So what do I do now? I can't get Adrian to come back. That would mean I'm settling for less,” she complained.

“Perhaps less is better than nothing. You are all alone in this, Ciara. There's nothing I can do for you. Go find a way to fix your shit with Adrian and fuck off!” He yelled at her.

Ciara's heart kept racing. She couldn't believe this was happening to her

“Now, put my coat on me. The emissary from Rhimae is here and I must greet her. She is Princess Sue from the Storm Kingdom…” he leaned in closer to her.

“They say her beauty is unrivaled. And if this ball goes well, she is to become my wife,”

He said and chuckled. Ciara’s gut wrenched at the thought of it. Another woman taking the Prince from her. She'd rather die!

“Now, fetch my outfit. I must look fitting. Go on!” He yelled at her.

Ciara sniffled as she nodded her head.

But turning around to leave, they heard a loud explosion. Both of them exchanged glances as another explosion rocked the place.

The walls vibrated violently, stresks of dust fell from the ceilings.

“What the fuck was that?” Prince Henry muttered.

But then, the large bell signifying trouble started to ring. A cold dread came upon them.

“What is going on?” Ciara muttered. The bell kept ringing, footsteps and screams filled the corridor.

“Dark Mages! There are dark mages in the palace!”

Someone cried out. Ciara gasped.

“Dark mages? How did they get in?” She muttered.

“Fuck it! Stay here and don't do anything stupid!” Prince Henry yelled at her and drew his sword.

He rushed out of his chambers and onto the corridor. But it was dark now.

Smoke filled the air. And walking into the darkness, Prince Henry saw a shadow coming.

He attacked without proper vigilance, and struck down one of his soldiers.

“Fuck!” He groaned in a frenzy.

“My prince!” A guard called out to him as others watched, eyes wide open, totally bewildered.

“I didn't see him. You all saw that right? I didn't see him! You! Clean this up. Now!”

Prince Henry yelled at the men and rushed out of there angrily.

He didn't care about their lives. He just wanted to maintain his image.

That was all he cared about.

And nothing should fuck it up!

    150. The cheering inside City Hall refused to die as different rebels walked up to him to congratulate him. Henry wanted the floor to open up and swallow him whole. “Alright, alright, shut up!” He said to the next one who came. Nobody listened and someone threw a blanket at him. Kael nearly fell over laughing. “I’ve never seen anyone look so embarrassed after kissing a beautiful woman.” “I hate every single one of you.” “No you don’t.” “You’re right.” Henry sighed. “Unfortunately.” Mira had sat up again, looking equally embarrassed. “They’re acting like we got married.” “Give them time.” Kael said. “Someone will probably organise a wedding by dinner.” “KAEL!” The former knight laughed even harder. Henry sat beside Mira’s bed. “You should rest.” “You should rest too.” “I wasn’t nearly crushed by a building.” “Yes, but I know you carried a lot of people back here today.” “I’m strong.” Henry said, and Mira burst into laughter. “That’s off

    149. Henry hated that scream immediately. When he got to Mira’s site, she was nowhere to be found, but he could hear loud screaming from someone. The kind of scream people made when they thought they were about to die. "Shit." He dropped the blanket he was carrying and turned around. Kael picked up the blanket and ran beside him. "You can’t just run when you hear a scream." "I can’t find Mira!” Henry exclaimed, still running. The scream came again, but this time it sounded weaker. Henry was sick to his stomach. Mira. Please don't let it be Mira. He begged in his mind. It couldn’t be her, not after everything she had already done to help people! The giant tower still stood in the distance like a giant middle finger aimed at the entire kingdom. “FUCK YOU!” Henry spat at it as he ran through the wreckage. Kael followed behind. "Slow down!" "I can’t afford to!" Henry said, throwing himself over obstacles and jumping like a kangaroo before he slid beneath a lar

    148. Henry was in the middle of losing an argument with Kael in the major city mall. There was a supply run and he had volunteered to be part of it, but as they stocked up, they argued. "I'm telling you, that's a terrible idea." "It's a brilliant idea." Kael replied. "No, it's terrible." "Brilliant!" Mira walked past both of them carrying medical supplies. "You're both idiots. Be quick so we can leave." "See?" Henry pointed at her. "She agrees with me." "No." Mira replied without stopping. "I think you're both idiots." Kael laughed. The rebellion base had become surprisingly lively over the last few days. There were more people in the "family". So that meant more training, more planning, and more arguments. For the first time in months, things almost felt normal for Henry, save for attacks. He had become more used to the environment. Henry sat on a wooden crate and looked at Kael. "So you're seriously saying we should put explosives under a bridge?"

    147. "Selene, answer me!” Selene wasn’t looking at Adrian, her eyes were on the stone instead. What the hell would she say to him? Selene didn't know, so she didn’t respond. She stared at the ball for a second before quickly closing her fingers around it. “Selene." Still nothing. She shoved the ball into her pocket and looked away. "We need to get the children out first, Adrian. Everything else is secondary." Her voice sounded strained. Adrian nodded and slowly got to his feet. His throat still hurt from where the warden had nearly crushed it. He looked at Selene, and shook his head. He had so many questions that were practically exploding inside his head. What kind of magic was that? Why had she lied about being able to do magic? What else had she lied about? How many other things was she hiding? He shook his head. No, he needed to concentrate on the kids. Most of them looked terrified. Adrian swallowed his questions. "Right, the children.” Selene looked

  • Chapter 145

    145. The stolen palace records were spread across the large table in his study. Adrian went through them with a frown on his face. "This makes absolutely no sense." Selene sat opposite him, reading through another pile of papers. Adrian frowned as he went through some documents. The handwriting was so bad he had to struggle to understand what was going on in them. "What does that line say?" He said, showing Selene a page. She squinted. "Deserving prisoners" A few days had passed since they stole the documents from a palace archive. Most of it was boring, all about taxes and mundane reports, supplies, there was a report about a man arrested for punching a goat. Adrian finished up with that batch and opened the next one. DEVELOPMENT FOR SUPPLY AND POWER, the top read. This was the most intriguing one so far, he told Selene who shrugged. “That sounds like they’re talking about power to use for machines.” “I don’t know.” Adrian said as he took out the cover. T
