“Oh, no one,” Ciara faked a smile as Prince Henry approached her. He kept his eyes fixed on her before he sat on the bed, pulling his coat off.
“Your useless husband quit his job. Did he tell you that?” Henry asked Ciara. She gasped when she heard the news, feigning ignorance. “Oh my prince, I did not know. That arrogant punk is good for nothing. We should not bother ourselves about him,” she told the Prince who nodded in silence. “There was something about him. Something different. It was like… he had a mind of his own. A different mind. I couldn't quite put my hands on it,” Prince Henry said softly. His mind roamed back to the conscription day. “And he has joined the army as well. Can you imagine that? Adrian, of all people?” He chuckled. Ciara just stood there and listened to all of this. She didn't know about any of them. And somehow, it appeared as if Adrian had changed. “He's probably doing all of this to make me sorry. It's an act. What a lazy way to get my attention,” Ciara thought to herself and rolled her eyes. Touching Henry's shoulders seductively, she kissed his hair. “That's alright my prince. Good riddance, is it not? He used to corrode this place with his presence. Let the fucker rot on the streets for all I care!” She snapped. Prince Henry raised his brow. “On the streets? What do you mean?* He asked her. Ciara chuckled as she rolled her eyes “I divorced the bastard. Now he has nothing!” She said to Henry. A moment of silence passed as Prince Henry froze on the spot. Ciara could sense the tension in the air. “My prince… is everything alright?” she asked, genuinely worried. “Tell me I didn't just hear you say that you divorced Adrian…” Henry breathed through his mouth. Ciara was perplexed. “But my prince, the animal had it coming. He even assaulted my father. I couldn't forgive that-” “And you thought divorcing him was the best thing to do? Fuck! Ciara! How could you be so fucking stupid?” Prince Henry yelled at her and stood on his feet. Ciara's heart raced while she gazed at him. Why was he overreacting? “But this is good right? Now that Adrian is gone, you and I can be together. We can ask a petition from the king and he would grant it and allow us get married…” Prince Henry laughed when she said this. He roamed around the room, sniffling like a man possessed by some entity. “I cannot believe that you're this naive, Ciara. I am a Prince. You're not even royalty. The law states that only royalty can marry the Prince. The law won't change for you,” The words hit Ciara like a tornado. She froze. “What are you saying?” She muttered. “I'm saying that you should have listened to me and removed that - thing -” he pointed to the pregnancy, “before it became so obvious.” Ciara's heart sank. “Thing? This is your child, my prince. You asked me to marry Adrian because you needed time to change the law for us.” Ciara gasped. “I asked you to get an abortion but you refused. Of course I told you that to get your whining ass off my back! The law cannot be changed. You cannot become my wife. Not now, not ever!” Henry said to her. Tears fell from Ciara’s eyes. She couldn't believe this was the same man she ruined everything for. “So what do I do now? I can't get Adrian to come back. That would mean I'm settling for less,” she complained. “Perhaps less is better than nothing. You are all alone in this, Ciara. There's nothing I can do for you. Go find a way to fix your shit with Adrian and fuck off!” He yelled at her. Ciara's heart kept racing. She couldn't believe this was happening to her “Now, put my coat on me. The emissary from Rhimae is here and I must greet her. She is Princess Sue from the Storm Kingdom…” he leaned in closer to her. “They say her beauty is unrivaled. And if this ball goes well, she is to become my wife,” He said and chuckled. Ciara’s gut wrenched at the thought of it. Another woman taking the Prince from her. She'd rather die! “Now, fetch my outfit. I must look fitting. Go on!” He yelled at her. Ciara sniffled as she nodded her head. But turning around to leave, they heard a loud explosion. Both of them exchanged glances as another explosion rocked the place. The walls vibrated violently, stresks of dust fell from the ceilings. “What the fuck was that?” Prince Henry muttered. But then, the large bell signifying trouble started to ring. A cold dread came upon them. “What is going on?” Ciara muttered. The bell kept ringing, footsteps and screams filled the corridor. “Dark Mages! There are dark mages in the palace!” Someone cried out. Ciara gasped. “Dark mages? How did they get in?” She muttered. “Fuck it! Stay here and don't do anything stupid!” Prince Henry yelled at her and drew his sword. He rushed out of his chambers and onto the corridor. But it was dark now. Smoke filled the air. And walking into the darkness, Prince Henry saw a shadow coming. He attacked without proper vigilance, and struck down one of his soldiers. “Fuck!” He groaned in a frenzy. “My prince!” A guard called out to him as others watched, eyes wide open, totally bewildered. “I didn't see him. You all saw that right? I didn't see him! You! Clean this up. Now!” Prince Henry yelled at the men and rushed out of there angrily. He didn't care about their lives. He just wanted to maintain his image. That was all he cared about. And nothing should fuck it up!Latest Chapter
Chapter 42
42. The war alarm rang so loud it shook the buildings. Within minutes, the palace had changed into something else. The servants moved around wildly, and guards shouted orders at each other . Soldiers moved fast into the courtyard, fastening their armour and grabbing shields before standing in formation. Mages stood in rows, hands glowing faintly, ready. Everyone wondered what was going on as there had been no prior preparations for war. But the king told them to be steadfast. An hour passed by of them just waiting. Adrian stood beside the king on the high balcony overlooking the grounds. The king folded his arms and turned to Adrian. "Well, Sir Bloodson, I see no army. Do you?” The visiting dignitary behind them looked pale. "I should not have stayed the night.” The man muttered. "This is madness, I have to go home, my wife must be back from her visits too." Adrian kept his eyes on the horizon. "They're coming." The king exhaled. "My entire court is on edge becaus
Chapter 41
41. Adrian couldn’t sleep. He had been able to get a few nights of rest after giving his condolences to the family of the dead… Ciara, but for some reason, this night was different. He sighed, forcing himself to go back to sleep, and that was when he heard a powerful voice in his head. “Wake up, Adrian!” Adrian sat upright in his bed with sweat running down his back. He looked around ti confirm that he was alone and sighed. "Who is there?” Adrian asked aloud. “Let me get some sleep!” “This is the powerful and mighty dragon, Adrian! You are running out of time!” Adrian felt a splitting headache come on, followed by a series of quick moving scenes. It was almost like he was in a trance, but he was awake and well. All the things he saw were extremely violent. He saw a battlefield where the sky was black with smoke and the air smelled like the mingling of blood and ash and fire. He turn r around to see a soldier run past him with half his face gone. Another one was crawli
Chapter 40
40. Henry did not give Ciara's father any time to change his mind. Not like anything could even happen if he did. He had set his eyes on him even before he even offered to be the sacrifice. The old man barely had the door closed behind him before Henry grabbed his arm. "Move!” Henry said coldly. Ciara's father looked back once at his house. His wife was still on the floor, crying. "Please…” The old man said. "Be gentle with her, take care of them." “Yeah, whatever.” Was all Henry said. "Your highness?” Ciara’s father said, struggling to breathe as he got into the carriage. "Do you swear that my daughter will live if I die?" Henry didn't even look at him. "Yes, why are you asking? Cold feet already? Too afraid to trade the fate of your daughter?” Ciara’s father shook his head. “None of those, I just want to be sure. I’m about to die.” When they got to the palace, Prince Henry ignored everyone greeting him and went straight up to his father’s chambers. "Announ
Chapter 39
39. Henry did not stop walking until the court doors were far behind him. His chest was tight and his hands were still shaking. Just one slip up was all it would have taken to ruin his reputation. "Stupid woman!” He cursed under his breath. He pushed open the door to the private lounge bar at the palace and grabbed the first bottle he saw. He didn't even bother with a cup. He drank straight from it. The burn hit his throat and he welcomed it. “Sir, are you…?” The bartender asked but then left immediately Henry shot him a withering glare. "How the hell did it get this messy?" He whispered to himself. He knew it. He shouldn’t have gotten involved with Ciara, but he just couldn’t resist her charms when she came on to him. He took another large swig and then slammed the bottle down on the table so hard that there was a small crack at the bottom. "I should've never touched that dumb bitch." But he knew that was a lie. He had wanted Ciara even before she came on to him.

38. It didn’t take long to summon the court again. The members were still gossiping from the last trial when the royal bells rang and messengers were sent out to give the members of the court their urgent invitations. They all rushed in, wondering what could possibly make the king summon them urgently. The most urgent meeting there was had a day’s notice and it was the last case of Sir Bloodson VS the kingdom. "This had better be good.” One of the ladies said, taking her seat. "It's that Bloodson again, I’m sure. Before him, we always had a week’s notice.” “Maybe he has another dramatic speech prepared to sway his majesty." The doors opened. The king walked in first with his guards and a serious look on his face, followed by Princess Sue who looked quite pleased, and then Prince Henry followed close behind. Adrian came in last, dressed in plain clean clothes this time, though the bruises on his face were still there. The murmuring grew louder and then the king raised
Chapter 37
37. The guards were not pleased releasing Adrian, but they had no choice. Adrian could see it in their eyes that if it were up to them, the trial would have gone a lot differently. But right now, Adrian had bigger fish to fry. He fell to the ground the moment the chains were gone, unable to feel his limbs. But then he stood up, and then he walked out, now temporarily free. I need to tend to my wounds, he thought, rubbing the raw spots on his wrists. As he walked out, he heard an all-too familiar voice. "Murderer!” He turned to see Ciara glaring at him. “Did you really think you could twist the king's mind with your weakness? Pathetic." Adrian didn't even glance her way. He walked straight past her, ignoring her taunts. She was his enemy now, she had tried to have him executed. But why did she hate him so? Even after he left her to fool around with the prince as much as she wanted? He shook his head. He was having too many thoughts at once. What he needed now was a calm
