53.

The mansion was quiet, save for the guards outside that were still walking their patrol routes. Meanwhile, Adrian stood in the hallway outside Macy's door.

His warning had disorientated her, he knew, and he had to make sure that she eventually fell asleep after all the tossing and turning and the sounds of worry she had been making.

Once it was silent for a while, he pushed the door open slightly and peeked inside. Macy lay curled under her blankets, and sure enough, she was asleep.

    61. The king was not kidding when he commanded that the feast in honour of Adrian was to be made to be one to never forget. Right in the celebration halls were long tables stretched across the whole place, covered with food that made even the richest men stare twice. There was roasted meat, dripping with fat, so many kind of spicer rice, every single dish steaming hot, sweet pastries stacked into wonderful small towers, and the wine flowed like water. The aroma from the place alone was enough to make a man weak. “Do you see that?" A noble said as he arrived, licking his lips. "That's royal roasted venison. Haven't had something like this in years." "Forget that, look at all that fish. I heard that they got it all from the southern areas, and it was fresh. How the hell did they get it here so fast?" "Money.” Another man who overheard them scoffed. "The king is showing off his boy toy today." Music was being played, and the servers moved around, having people help themse

    60. Things just seemed to be falling apart. After hoping that the king would punish Adrian severely, all master Orion heard was that Adrian was receiving nothing but praises from the king in anticipation of the feast that was to be held in his name. … He had no words for such a thing. How could the king be so trusting of such a man? Adrian was untrustworthy to say in the least, and wouldn’t serve as a valuable pawn to him. He walked back into his room of alchemy. He didn’t believe this nonsense about Adrian being a nonmagical, there had to be more to it. No good soldier could hold their ground against Mera, let alone defeating her. He got out his crystal ball, setting it in place before staring at it. It came on, and immediately, he closed his eyes in concentration. “He was declared nonmagical. If that’s the case, then I have to recheck.” Master Orion said. The stories of people changing were only a myth. Nobody ever went from even being a zero to an E-rank, let alone a mage.

    59. Adrian was already asleep by the time the rumours started to spread. Before anyone knew it, it was all over the city. “What do you mean four bodies?” "I'm telling you what I heard! And they were dressed strangely. I don’t understand…” In the market centre, people were arguing about the identity of the dead. "They were assassins!” A young boy spoke up. "My brother works with the city watchers, and he said they looked like assassins." He puffed his chest proudly as his mother dragged him off, mouthing apologies. It wasn’t good to be in the centre of death, but now, it was what anyone and everyone in the kingdom could talk about. "It’s just the blabbering of a young child, no official statement has been released.” “That is true, but who could have killed them? I heard one was cut clean in half.” “Half is better, I was told that skulls were crushed. What kind of power…?” With no answers, the rumours spread faster and each assumption was worse than the previous.I

    58. Adrian didn’t know what to feel, but all in all, he was puzzled. Ever since he got the dragon system, he had never thought about opponents who could be stronger, but now… "Stronger than the strongest opponent I’ve faced yet. Mera…” He muttered. "System.” Adrian said. The screen came to life. “Could I have defeated that mage if I fought them?” [CURRENT PROBABILITY OF VICTORY: VERY LOW.] Adrian nodded, looking at the screen. "Well that's fucking rude. So there's someone walking around this city who can wipe the floor with me?" [CONFIRMED.] Adrian sighed, knowing he’d have to increase his training. "Fantastic." He looked up at the dark sky remembering how it wasn’t that long that he was getting beaten up by Ciara’s parents, just for existing. So much had happened since then, and even now, he had a long way to go. “My life really went off the rails." [NEW DATA DETECTED!] Adrian frowned. "What is this now?" 57. The house looked somewhat abandoned, except that was how it was designed to be built, in case of anything. As actually, it was the meeting place of a lot of nobles and elite members of the city kingdom. Some people were dressed in their regular noble clothes and some others wore heavy cloaks with their faces half hidden. At the far end of the room stood master Orion, and he had his hands behind his back with a blank expression on his face. His mind was running in circles. A general had asked to meet to bring in new members, and he still had the issue of destroying Sit Bloodson. But it wasn’t just Adrian and new members on his mind, he wanted something more than he had ever had. He had one chance. A cloaked man went over to him, nodding. He bowed slightly towards Orion. "Master Orion. I was the one who called to see you.” Orion looked at him, recognising his voice. "General Gotham." The general nodded and gestured behind me. "I brought them with me." There were ab

    56. Yet again, nightfall had come. Walking at this time had become a routine for Adrian, with all the happenings. Yet, he found that the night came with a bit of ease for him. He felt refreshed, walking down the cold road with his hands in his coat pockets. “A beautiful night.” He muttered to himself. For the past two days he had been busy watching Macy train. And to his surprise, she was actually improving. He expected improvement but she was moving fast, and to say he felt proud wouldn’t even be putting it straight. She had gone from barely scratching training dummies to splitting the wood with just a dagger. Two days! She had jumped around like a kid afterwards. "Did you see that?” She squealed. Adrian smiled just remembering it. "She learns fast." He muttered. “Must run in the family.” He walked past a bakery that had already closed for the night but the smell of bread was still in the air. His mood became much better than before. Unfortunately, the peace didn't las
