Elaine was so frightened that cold sweat poured down her face; it turned out that everything Iris said was true.

Her entire body trembled uncontrollably as reality crashed down on her.

The cold floor beneath her knees felt like ice, yet she barely noticed it.

Her mind was completely blank.

She had offended someone she could never afford to offend.

No— not just offended.

She had personally ordered security to throw them out.

That single command echoed in her head again and again, each repetition tighter than the last, like a noose slowly closing around her neck.

Her lips quivered as she looked up desperately, her gaze darting between Adrian and Iris.

She couldn’t even bring herself to focus on either of them properly.

Both felt equally terrifying now.

“I—I’m sorry…” Elaine choked out, her voice hoarse and broken, nothing like the authority she had wielded moments ago. “I didn’t know… I really didn’t know…”

She bowed repeatedly, her movements frantic and clumsy, her forehead nearly touching the ground each time.

Her dignity shattered completely.

“Please forgive me. I beg you. I was blind. I was ignorant,” she said again and again, as if repeating it might somehow rewind time.

She turned toward Iris first, panic written all over her face, then quickly toward Ethan, as if unsure who she should beg more, or who held the greater power over her fate.

“Please… please give me a chance…”

Before Adrian could even respond, Victor  stepped forward.

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

His face was dark with anger and shame, the kind that came from realizing his own people had made an unforgivable mistake.

“Enough,” Victor said coldly.

The single word was enough to silence her.

Elaine froze where she knelt.

Victor’s voice carried authority that brooked no argument.

It wasn’t loud, but it left no room for negotiation.

“You are fired,” he announced without hesitation. “Effective immediately.”

The words struck Elaine harder than any slap ever could.

Her eyes widened, and she stared at him in disbelief, as though she had misheard.

“Patriarch… I—”

“You offended someone you should have shown the highest respect,” Victor  continued, his tone sharp and merciless. “Skyline Hotel does not need someone like you.”

There was no anger in his voice anymore. Just finality.

Elaine ’s body collapsed forward completely.

Her career—

 Her pride—

Everything she had built over the years—

Gone.

All of it erased in a few sentences.

Because she had offended Adrian.

Victor  didn’t look at her again.

To him, she was already irrelevant.

Instead, he turned toward Adrian, his posture lowering slightly, his expression filled with deep embarrassment and guilt.

“I am deeply ashamed,” Victor said solemnly. “This should never have happened.”

He paused, then gestured respectfully toward the inner hall.

“Please,” he said sincerely. “Allow me to personally escort you to the Elite Banquet Hall.”

The words sent a shockwave through the lobby.

Gasps echoed instantly from all directions.

The Elite Banquet Hall?

That place was legendary.

It was only reserved for the most distinguished individuals in the city— people whose names alone could shake entire industries, people who existed far above ordinary wealth and status.

Everyone stared at Adrian in disbelief.

Speculation exploded quietly among the onlookers, whispers stacking on top of whispers.

“Who… who is he?”

“How could Patriarch Victor treat him like this?”

“I’ve never seen anyone invited there personally…”

Adrian remained calm.

There was no pride on his face. No excitement.

Only indifference.

As if being escorted to the Elite Banquet Hall was nothing worth reacting to.

He nodded lightly.

“Alright,” he said.

Victor exhaled in relief and immediately led the way, personally guiding him forward.

Iris followed quietly at Adrian's side, her expression composed, her steps unhurried.

As they walked, countless eyes followed them.

Some were curious.

Some were shocked.

Some were already filled with regret.

The whispers grew louder with every step.

By the time they reached the Elite Banquet Hall, the air itself seemed different— quieter.

The doors opened slowly.

Inside, the hall was grand beyond imagination.

Crystal chandeliers hung like stars frozen in midair.

Golden accents lined the walls.

Every detail screamed power, wealth, and authority.

Victor stopped and turned to Adrian.

Without hesitation, he bowed deeply.

“This incident happened because of my negligence,” Victor said solemnly. “I sincerely apologize.”

Adrian shook his head slightly.

“It’s not your fault,” he replied calmly. “Vanessa was here. She deliberately caused trouble.”

Victor frowned, anger flashing briefly in his eyes at the mention of her name.

“I should have dealt with this earlier,” he said in a low voice.

Then, suddenly, Victor stiffened.

His expression changed.

He remembered something important.

“The cooperation with Vanessa's company,” he muttered.

His brows knitted tightly.

“I haven’t instructed them to cancel it yet.”

Without wasting a single second, Victor  pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

The call connected quickly.

“What’s the situation?” Victor demanded, his tone sharp.

There was a pause.

His expression darkened noticeably.

“What do you mean he already left?”

Victor inhaled sharply, irritation clear on his face.

The manager in charge of signing the contract with Vanessa's company had already set off.

Victor quickly asked for the phone number and ended the call without ceremony.

He dialed again immediately.

In another ordinary banquet hall, Vanessa sat proudly among a crowd of well-dressed guests.

Soft music played in the background, light and pleasant.

Crystal glasses clinked gently as servers moved between tables.

The atmosphere was lively and celebratory.

Everyone present had been personally invited by Vanessa to witness her cooperation with the Rand family.

This was her moment.

She sat beside Charles, her posture confident, her smile radiant, enjoying the admiring glances cast her way.

Across from them sat a middle-aged man in a tailored suit, his demeanor polite and practiced.

“Miss Vanessa,” he said with a smile, “you truly have a good partner.”

Vanessa's smile widened slightly, satisfaction flickering in her eyes.

The man continued, his tone meaningful.

“To be honest, cooperation with the Rand family isn’t something just anyone can secure.”

He leaned back slightly, lowering his voice.

“There must be someone behind the scenes helping you.”

Vanessa instinctively glanced at Charles.

Her eyes softened with gratitude, and she didn’t bother hiding it.

Charles lifted his chin modestly, pretending not to notice the admiration around him, though his eyes gleamed with pride.

Before Vanessa could speak further, the manager tilted his head curiously.

“By the way,” he asked casually, “isn’t your husband here?”

The question hit Vanessa like a slap across the face.

Her smile stiffened instantly.

Her fingers tightened around her glass, the crystal pressing into her skin.

“My husband?” she repeated awkwardly.

She forced a laugh that sounded a little too sharp.

“He’s… too ordinary,” Vanessa said, her voice strained. “He wouldn’t dare attend an occasion like this.”

She gestured quickly toward Charles, eager to redirect the attention.

“He’s the one accompanying me today,” she said. “And it was Charles who used the power of his family to help me get in touch with the Rand family.”

Charles nodded confidently, playing his role perfectly.

The manager frowned slightly.

He looked at Charles more carefully now, his gaze lingering longer than before.

Confusion flickered in his eyes.

He was sure he had seen this man before.

But not in any context related to the Rand family.

Charles’ family… didn’t have that kind of reach.

Just as the manager was about to say something—

His phone rang.

The sound interrupted him.

He glanced at the caller ID and answered immediately.

As soon as he answered the call, his expression changed instantly.

The color drained from his face.

He stood up abruptly, chair scraping lightly against the floor.

“Excuse me,” he said quickly.

Without another word, he turned and hurried out of the banquet hall.

Monica plopped down beside her with an exaggerated sigh, stretching one arm across the seat like she owned the place.“You look like death warmed over,” Monica said, peering at Vanessa’s puffed eyes. “Are we sure you survived last night or did you just… you know, die a little?”Vanessa huffed, jabbing a finger at her sunglasses. “If I survived, it’s a miracle. And these,” she gestured to the dark lenses, “are literally the only thing keeping me from murdering someone on sight.”Monica laughed, a loud, obnoxious kind of laugh. “Murder? Ooh, dramatic! Don’t tell me Adrian is the target. I didn’t think he was equipped for that.”Vanessa rolled her eyes, muttering, “He’s lucky I haven’t invented a way to publicly humiliate him like he deserves.”“Lucky for him,” Monica said with mock solemnity, pressing a hand over her heart. “Or maybe he’s cursed. I can never tell.” She leaned ba

Vanessa sat rigidly on the edge of her bed, phone still in her hand, the screen glowing with paused footage she hadn’t yet found the courage to replay fully. Her phone vibrated again, this time with an incoming call labeled PR – Nadia.Vanessa stared at the name for a few seconds, jaw tight. Of all people, this was the one she least wanted to hear from right now. Nadia didn’t call unless things were already bad. Emails were for minor fires. Calls were for infernos. She answered anyway.“Yes?” Her voice came out clipped, defensive before the conversation even began.“Vanessa,” Nadia said, skipping pleasantries entirely. Her tone was calm, professional, but weighted. “I need you to listen to me very carefully.”Vanessa scoffed softly. “If this is about last night—”“It is,” Nadia cut in, firmly. “And it’s worse than you think.”Vanessa rolled her eyes and leaned back against the headboard, crossing her arms. “People get denied entry all the time. This will blow over.”There was a brief

Lunch was served on the terrace. The restaurant sat on the uppermost level of the Rand Building, all glass and steel, open to the sky in a way that suggested nothing could touch the men who dined there. Polished cutlery. Plates arranged at careful angles. A waiter had just finished pouring wine before retreating with the kind of discretion money trained into people.Victor leaned back in his chair, phone in hand, eyes gleaming with quiet amusement as he scrolled.“It’s impressive,” Victor said, breaking the silence at last. “Truly impressive.”Adrian didn’t look up immediately. Vanessa was dragged out of sleep by the shrill vibration of her phone against the bedside table. She groaned, rolling onto her side and burying her face into the pillow. The curtains were still drawn, the room dim and heavy with the kind of morning light that felt intrusive rather than gentle. Her head throbbed faintly—not from alcohol, but from the emotional exhaustion of the night before. Shame clung to her like a second skin, even in sleep. The phone vibrated again. With an irritated sigh, she reached out blindly, snatching it up and squinting at the screen. Her assistant’s name flashed insistently.“What?” she snapped the moment she answered, her voice thick with sleep. “Do you have any idea what time it is?”There was a pause on the other end, then her assistant spoke quickly, nervously. “Good morning, ma’am. I—um—have you gone online today?”Vanessa scoffed, rolling onto her back. “Obviously not. I was sleeping until you decided to wake me up. What kind of question is that?”The

Monica sat frozen for a few seconds, still trying to process the last thing Vanessa had said. Her shock lingered on her face, eyes wide, mouth slightly open, as if she were waiting for Vanessa to laugh and say it was all some exaggerated joke. When that didn’t happen, Monica shifted closer on the bed.“Okay,” she said carefully, lowering her voice the way people did when they sensed something fragile underneath anger. “You can’t just stop there. Explain. What exactly happened? What do you mean by you were denied access? You mean like you didn't get into the hall?”Vanessa let out a sharp breath through her nose and turned her face away again, as though the ceiling suddenly held answers she didn’t want to share. For a moment, she looked like she might refuse to say anything more. Her fingers twisted into the fabric of the bedspread, gripping it tight. Then she spoke.“Fine, let me tell you everything that happened, so you understand exactly how I'm feeling right now. When Charles finally pulled up in front of Vanessa’s house, the car barely had time to come to a complete stop before she reached for the door handle. She shoved it open and stepped out sharply, her movements stiff with barely restrained fury. The slam of the door that followed was louder than necessary, echoing down the quiet street like punctuation to everything she refused to say. She didn’t look back. Not even once.Charles remained in the driver’s seat for a brief second, his hands still gripping the steering wheel, jaw tight. He watched her retreating figure through the windshield as she marched toward the house, her back rigid, her shoulders squared like she was bracing against something invisible.
