Chapter 3

Nicholas Bellingham stood frozen in the doorway, his body rigid, his eyes locked on the scene before him. His mind struggled to process what he was seeing, but the truth was undeniable. Fiona, the woman he loved, was entangled with the supervisor in the most intimate and betraying way possible. His heart, already heavy from years of mistreatment and humiliation, shattered into a thousand pieces.

Fiona was bent over the desk, her clothes disheveled, while the supervisor stood behind her, his face twisted in pleasure.

For a moment, time seemed to stop. Nicholas ’s mind raced, but no words came. The betrayal was too much to process.

“Fiona!” he shouted, his voice trembling with a mix of anger, pain, and disbelief.

Due to the loud and angry voice, they stopped their so-called fun, and glanced at the person.

They froze, their eyes wide with shock as Nicholas  stood in the doorway, his heart breaking into a million pieces

Fiona jerked away from the supervisor instantly, her face pale with shock. She scrambled to cover herself, grabbing her clothes and wrapping them hastily around her body.

Fear and shame etched across her face as she realized Nicholas had caught her in the act. She had never imagined he would return to the office, let alone walk in on her like this.

“Nicholas…” she began, her voice trembling, but he cut her off.

“Don’t,” he said, his voice low and filled with pain. “Just don’t call my name with your filthy mouth.”

Nicholas ’s fists clenched at his sides, his jaw tightening as he glared at her. “What are you doing with him, Fiona? Are you cheating on me?” he demanded, his voice low and filled with anguish.

The supervisor, equally stunned, quickly composed himself. His face twisted into a mask of anger as he stepped forward. “What are you still doing here, Nicholas? Did you forget something? How dare you come into my office without knocking? Have you lost your manner?” he barked, his tone dripping with authority.

But Nicholas wasn’t listening. His eyes remained fixed on Fiona, his heart breaking with every passing second.

“Answer me, Fiona! Is this why you wanted to keep our relationship a secret? Because of him?” he spat, pointing his index finger at the supervisor.

Fiona stammered, her voice barely audible. “I… I… I didn’t mean for this to happen,” she whispered, her eyes darting between Nicholas  and the supervisor.

The supervisor, however, was quick to intervene. “You don’t owe him any explanation, Fiona,” he snapped, his voice cold and dismissive. “You’re not married to him. You’re just colleagues. He has no right to demand anything from you.”

Nicholas let out a bitter laugh, his eyes narrowing as he looked at the supervisor. “So, this is how it is, huh? You’ve been using your position to manipulate her. And you,” he turned to Fiona, his voice cracking, “you let him get under skirt. You betrayed me.”

Fiona’s face flushed with embarrassment, but she said nothing. The supervisor, however, was quick to defend himself. “You’re out of line, Nicholas . If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave now and forget what you saw.”

But Nicholas wasn’t about to back down. He took a step forward, his voice trembling with rage. “You think you can just get away with this? Both of you? I’m going to report this to the board of directors. You’re going to regret everything you’ve done to me.”

With that, Nicholas  turned on his heel and stormed out of the office, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn’t believe what had just happened.

The woman he had loved, the person he had trusted more than anyone, had betrayed him in the worst possible way. As he walked away, he felt a surge of anger and determination. He would make them pay for what they had done.

Meanwhile, back in the office, Fiona and the supervisor were left in stunned silence. The weight of Nicholas ’s threat hung heavily in the air.

Fiona turned to the supervisor, her face pale with fear. “What are we going to do? He’s going to report us. We’ll lose everything.”

The supervisor, however, seemed unfazed. A slow, sinister smile spread across his face as an idea began to form in his mind. “Don’t worry,” he said, his voice calm and calculating. “I have a plan. If we play our cards right, Nicholas will be the one who regrets ever crossing us.”

Fiona’s eyes widened as the supervisor leaned in and whispered his plan into her ear. Her initial fear was replaced by a sly smile as she nodded in agreement. “It’s perfect,” she said, her voice filled with a newfound confidence. “He’ll never see it coming.”

Nicholas , meanwhile, wandered the streets like a man possessed. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions—anger, betrayal, heartbreak.

He couldn’t believe that Fiona, the woman he had loved and trusted, had been capable of such deceit.

He replayed every moment of their relationship in his mind, searching for signs he might have missed, but all he could see was the image of her with the supervisor, a betrayal that cut deeper than any insult or humiliation he had ever endured.

His phone buzzed incessantly in his pocket, but he ignored it. He didn’t want to talk to anyone, least of all Linda, who was probably calling to berate him for not finishing her email. But then, a message popped up on his screen. It was from Fiona.

“I was forced by the supervisor,” the message read. “He’s been harassing me ever since I joined the company. He threatened to fire me if I ever mention our illicit  affairs to anyone. I’m sorry, Nicholas. I’m truly sorry.”

Nicholas’s heart skipped a beat as he read the message. His anger toward Fiona began to waver, replaced by a growing sense of concern.

He quickly dialed her number, and she answered almost immediately. Her voice was choked with tears as she spoke.

“Nicholas, I’m so sorry,” she sobbed. “I didn’t want to hurt you. He’s been threatening me, blackmailing me. I didn’t know what to do.”

Nicholas ’s heart ached as he listened to her. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, his voice filled with pain. “I could have helped you. We could have gone to the management together.”

“I was scared,” Fiona whispered. “I didn’t want to lose my job. I didn’t want to lose you.”

Nicholas took a deep breath, his mind racing. “We’ll report him tomorrow,” he said firmly. “He can’t get away with this. I’ll stand by you, Fiona. No matter what.”

Fiona’s voice softened. “Do you really mean that? Do you still love me?”

Nicholas hesitated for a moment, then nodded, even though she couldn’t see him. “I do,” he said quietly. “I always do! I just want to make this right.”

“Then come over,” Fiona pleaded. “I need to see you. I need to know you’re really here for me.”

Without a second thought, Nicholas  agreed. He made his way to Fiona’s apartment, his heart heavy but hopeful. When he arrived, she greeted him with a tearful embrace, her arms wrapping tightly around him.

“Thank you for coming,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Nicholas held her close, his anger and pain momentarily forgotten. But as they sat down to talk, Fiona poured two glasses of wine, handing one to Nicholas . He accepted it without question, his trust in her still lingering despite everything.

He drank deeply, the wine cooling the edges of his pain. But as the minutes passed, he began to feel strange. His vision blurred, his head spun, and before he knew it, he was slipping into unconsciousness.

The last thing he saw was Fiona’s face, her expression cold and calculating, as the world around him faded to black.

Nicholas Bellingham burst through the glass doors of the bank, his chest pounding heavily as sweat poured down his face and neck. His shirt clung tightly to his back, damp and wet, but he didn’t care. His only concern was his younger sister. Olivia was in the hospital, and without the surgery, she wouldn’t make it. He hadn’t even paused to catch his breath before rushing straight to the front desk. “Good morning, Miss! I’m here for an—” he blurted out, desperate to speak to someone, anyone who could help. But before he could finish, the bank clerk, without even looking up from her desk, snapped at him harshly, “Hey! How can you be so rude and impolite? Join the queue like everyone else!” The words hit him like a slap. He blinked and looked around, only now noticing the long line of people waiting to be served. Murmurs began to spread through the line, and he could feel the eyes on him—some curious, others filled with disdain. “I’m sorry,” he said softly, almost a
