Chapter 2

It was no other than Willow Smith, Yvonne’s ex-boyfriend. Rage swelled in Andre’s veins as he watched them engage in adult play.

“What’s he doing here?” Andre bellowed.

“Are you valued to know what I’m doing here, cur?” Willow replied, a smirk settling on his facial features.

Yvonne pulled away from Willow’s arms and pointed her fingers in the air. “Relax Smith, let me handle him,” Yvonne said to pacify Smith’s displeasure.

She was afraid Andre might irate him through his words and actions. She started from Smith to Andre with a cold and distant expression,

Back then when she was still unmarried, she was beautiful and had thought that she would end up with a wealthy man.

Barely getting married to Andre, she lost everything, her reputation, and her position in the family’s business were dropped to the position of a mere assistant marketing manager. She couldn’t even afford expensive bags and jewelry.

Other people’s husbands were elite executives in their companies, with respect to their names. But her husband was a complete loser with no promising future.

Barely thinking about these things makes her detest him so much.

“What are you doing with your ex-boyfriend, wife?” Andre couldn’t hide his displease, neither could he bear the silence anymore.

“Wife?” Yvonne scoffed and twirled her hair in the air seductively. “If weren’t for my father who had matched us together four years ago, do you think you could stand a chance to woo me? Talk more of making me your wife?”

“The sun doesn’t have anything to do with the moon. I’ll say it again, we are not meant to be. The earlier you realize, the better you get out of my life!” Yvonne hollered.

Andre pursed his lips, trying not to let her words pierce through his heart. He understood that he hadn’t been the perfect husband for Yvonne just because he couldn’t afford a luxurious lifestyle. His salary was barely enough to purchase a house.

“But won’t grandpa get mad at you if he sees you with him and not me?” Andre asked.

Peals of sardonic laughter erupted into the air at Andre’s question.

“He would only be mad when he sees you the miserable son-in-law, and not him the worthy son of an elite.”

“Get out of the way!” Hannah said, pushing Andre out of her way.

“Look at other people’s sons-in-law, they all buy luxury cars and estate, they are company CEOs, but you’re just a pathetic loser. We live in a dirty neighborhood, because of you, Yvonne lost her face and say in the family’s business, and you even rely on her salary to survive.”

“Hopefully, you just die or rot in prison! I’ll be the happiest person on earth. Leave my daughter alone! Do not attend the party, go back and guard the house like the dog you are!” Hannah fumed vehemently.

Andre fumed and clenched his fist tightly such that his knuckles popped out barely watching his wife zooming off in a Lamborghini with her ex-boyfriend.

He returned to the house to freshen up, as a son-in-law of the Sparrow’s family. It would be a slap in his face if he didn’t show up in the party, he would only be termed as a failed son-in-law.

After taking his bath, he tucked himself in a tailored dark suit, putting on a gray tie.

He hauled out of the house and locked the door behind him before advancing towards his motorbike by the roadside only to find it in an irrecoverable state.

The motorbike was ruined, crushed, and crumbled to pieces. Andre’s eyes got hold of a white paper on the motorbike and took it to read,

“Pathetic loser! Divorce Yvonne or die miserably!”

Andre’s eyes flashed with anger as he digested the contents and his fist clenched.

The motorbike was not his, it belonged to the company he was working for as a dispatcher. Now, how would he explain himself to the management?

He brought out his phone to browse the price of the rider, and his mouth dropped in shock. ‘$50,000’ where would he get such a huge amount from?

With the whole of his stipends combined, it wouldn’t still amount to $2000. His salary was being collected by his mother-in-law.

He always remit his salary for the sake of peace. ‘Worthless cur, do you think we run charity here? Bring all your salary or you divorce my daughter!’

Just as he was engrossed in his train of thought. Two or four police officers walked to the scene beside him.

The leading police officer asked, “Are you Andre Spencer?”

Andre shuddered as the leading police officer's hands poked him. The leading police officer repeated his words.

“Yes, I-I am,” Andre replied, glancing at the officer warily.

“Take him!” The leading police officer snapped his fingers in the air, and two officers strode towards Andre, an evil sneer settling on their faces.

“You are under arrest, Mr. Spencer. It will be better to cooperate with us.”

Andre was stunned at their utterance and actions. Cooperate, when he didn’t commit any crimes?

“Cooperate? Why should I? I haven’t done anything wrong.” He said in his defense.

“Just three days ago, you wrote to the company that you’d destroy their property if they didn’t loan you $40000 to the celebration of your father-in-law. You give them an ultimatum of three days, today making it the last day.”

Andre's eyes widened at the police officer’s revelation. He didn’t do such a thing, although, his father-in-law's birthday was today, but he never did such a thing.

“I didn’t do that. Please believe me.” Andre said to his defense.

“If you didn’t do that, then please provide the motorbike, and we will let you go.”

Andre’s morale spirit suddenly dropped, and he got dispirited at that moment. The bike was ruined, how should he apprise them at that moment?

How was he going to convince them that it wasn’t him who had crushed the bike?

An idea struck into his head at that moment and he remembered the threat letter.

“Look, the bike is ruined. But, I’m innocent.”

“I came out meeting this letter on the rider as well, you may have it. The perpetrator must have dropped it.” Andre said slowly and stretched the letter towards the leading police officer.

His hands hung in the air for a moment before the letter was grabbed. Right in Andre’s presence, the letter was torn without being read.

Chapter 47Back at the Rollins estate, chaos had erupted. Grandpa was pacing the living room, his face red and fury. Badmus had already smashed his glass of whiskey against the wall.“She’s ruined us!” Grandpa thundered. “She’s turned the entire country against us. Now, she's made us a target, Badmus! Every reporter will be digging into our history.” Badmus growled, “She didn’t name us, Father. But everyone will guess. The press already thinks it’s an internal feud.”Grandpa’s voice trembled with anger. “And where’s that useless husband of hers? This is his doing. He’s poisoned her mind!”Andre entered just then, his face unreadable, his shirt still stained faintly from the cut on his cheek. “If anyone poisoned her,” he said quietly, “it was this family.”Badmus took a threatening step forward. “Watch your tongue, boy. You think marrying into this family gives you power?”Andre gave a humorless smile. “No. But it gives me a front-row seat to your downfall.”Before either of them coul

Grandpa, Uncle Badmus, all of them. My mother’s missing, and they’re still talking about contracts!”Andre sighed, pulling her closer until her shaking body rested against his chest. “Listen to me. Go home. I’ll handle this.”“Handle?” she repeated bitterly. “How? You saw what they did. You saw how they treat you, like you’re nothing!”He didn’t flinch. “Exactly. They think I’m nothing.
