Chapter 3

Andre was denied the luxury to express and defend himself. He was dragged against his wish into the vehicles and was driven off to the detention center.

The detention center was mainly for those who were waiting for sentencing and would be transferred to prison.

He was locked up in the sections where hardened and dangerous criminals were locked.

Barely sighting Andre, smug and snorting expressions crawled up their face. ‘ vulnerable prey.’ They muttered and cursed.

They knew Andre wouldn’t last in the cell he was in, who knows he might even die tonight. At the end of the cell, a thug was sighted taking out a kitchen knife.

Back at the sparrow’s villa

The sparrow’s family mansion was illuminated with a fluorescent light that shone from the hanging chandelier.

There was an ongoing celebration, today was the 80th birthday of the Sparrow’s patriarch, and not only members of the Sparrow’s family were present but also many distinguished guests.

Yvonne and Willow Smith sauntered into the Sparrow’s family mansion stirring a commotion among the guests.

“Isn’t that Willow Smith? The heir to the Willow family? A second-class family in the city of New York, who also was a co-founder of a fintech company? The most sought-after bachelor in New York?”

Yvonne blushed as those whispers resounded in her ears. She was certain those who had belittled her when she had gotten married to Andre would respect her at effect. Especially, her rival who was her cousin, Wayne Sparrow.

The fact that the most beautiful woman in New York stooped so low to marry an ordinary man caused a commotion throughout the city.

Faced with ridicule and sarcasm of those around her then, caused her heart to writhe in turmoil but now, Smith is by her side, so she’s less worried.

Her once trampled reputation would be restored to life.

But even at that, the sneer and rude remark didn’t stop.

“Isn’t she married to that loser? Why is she flirting with another man when she’s married?”

Yvonne’s blood boiled at their words, her face a-washed with grief but she concealed her emotions with an unfathomable expression.

“Isn’t that Hannah, Yvonne’s mother? Why is she allowing her daughter to flirt with a man when she’s married?”

“Idiots!” Yvonne cursed in her mind. “Got married to a poor man, I was badmouthed, now engaged with a rising billionaire in New York, still being backbite? What else do they want from me?”

Her fingers dug tightly into her palms as she reminisced on her grief.

Soon enough the clearing of throat behind her caused her to shriek. It was her cousin, Wayne, the patriarch's favorite grandson.

Yvonne knew Wayne would pick on her today so, she had planned to use Willow Smith to save her face from unnecessary shade.

Just as she had presumed, Wayne couldn’t utter a word as his breath hitched in his throat. Yvonne is with a rising billionaire? How was she able to grab his attention?

Wayne smirked at that, seeing that Yvonne was trying her best to outrun him so Grandpa Sparrow could retain her former position as the CEO of one of their subdivision company.

“Yvonne, you have a good catch here. But, does this young man know you were married to a loser?” Wayne asked with a hint of mockery in his voice,

Yvonne forced a smile, “Wayne, who stopped you from marrying a loser too? Why are you so embedded in my life affairs?”

Wayne smirked, walked closer to Yvonne, and whispered. “Don’t even think you can outrun me with him by your side. I’m going to be the heir, not you. Why don’t you just stick with your loser husband?”

Yvonne lost her cool and said. “Why don’t you marry a loser?”

As the two whispered among themselves in insult, the presence of the patriarch was announced.

He sat at the high table with a straight face, his face brewing with anger,

Every one of them panicked, wondering who must have offended Grandfather.

They suddenly traced the trail of Grandpa to Yvonne. They thought Grandpa was mad at Yvonne for bringing a wealthy man while she was still married.

“Hmm, Grandpa.” Hannah cleared her throat. “This is Willow Smith, the heir of the Willow’s family in New York. He’s-”

Just as Hannah was going to complete her statement, she was interrupted by Wayne who let out a loud exclamation.

Everyone turned to him in askance. Wayne quickly ushered everyone to check the news on the family’s W******p group.

A grim and smug expression curled up their face, and they all shot their bloodshot eyes at Yvonne.

“Yvonne, our family reputation is in the mud all because of you!” They cursed and pointed at Yvonne with hatred in their eyes.

Yvonne’s eyes also widened when she saw the news headlines on her cellphone.

“You not only married a loser but also a going to be convict.”

They lashed at Yvonne, cursing loudly at her with all such hate comments. Yvonne’s hands clenched against her thighs under the table as she listened to their tantrums.

“I hereby banned you from the company’s affairs, you’re disowned and no longer part of our family.” Grandpa’s voice rang in the room with an innate authority,

Everyone shook at his voice and then did not utter a word. Deep down, Wayne was happy that Yvonne was kicked out of the family’s business,

“Grandpa, Yvonne is your granddaughter, her father was the main bone of the family’s business before his sudden demise. Is this how you’re going to repay his favor?” Hannah wept incessantly.

“Woman! Mind watch what you say against my father! Are you saying I’m also worthless that I didn’t aid in growing the family business?” Seaward, Wayne's father spewed.

Hannah was quiet, then she asked Yvonne to leave the room alongside Smith.

“My daughter has nothing to do with the loser anymore, In fact, she brought her fiancé to you for blessing.” Hannah hurriedly added to her words.

The people in the gathering were shocked.

“Your daughter is yet to be divorced, how could she dare to bring a man here?” Seaward asked with rage swelling within him.

“A man? Are you trying to insult the heir of the Willow’s family?” Hannah scoffed. She knew Seaward was heartbroken at the sudden breakthrough of her daughter.

Everyone knew the Willow family was a wealthy business family who had stocked up wealth from the profit of their business. They owned estate and so on.

If Yvonne gets married to Smith, automatically they can become their business partner.

“My daughter is not yet divorced because Andre has not signed the divorce paper, but be rest assured, my daughter already moved on,” Hannah said with a hint of confidence in her tone.

“Is it true that the heir of the Willow’s family wants to get married to Yvonne?” Grandpa asked and Hannah nodded.

Now, everybody awaited Grandpa’s final decision if he would ever change his mind about accepting Yvonne back into the family since Yvonne would be getting married to one of the prominent family.

“He’s also a co-founder of a fintech company. He owns a billion of assets aside from his family’s wealth.” Hannah added to stir rage in Seaward’s heart.

“He could partner with us and teach us about fintech business. Who doesn’t know how lucrative fintech is, these days?”
