The stagnant, sulfurous fog of the Grey Zone grew thicker as midnight approached. The skeletal remains of pre Cataclysm high rises cast jagged shadows across the highway, resembling broken tombstones in an endless wasteland graveyard.

Ethan crouched atop the rusty shell of a collapsed highway overpass. His crimson flecked eyes swept across the ruined plaza below, Sovereign's Sight cutting through the toxic haze like a razor.

Three glowing red silhouettes prowled through the rubble: a pack of Iron Fanged Shadow Hounds scavenged a freshly torn mutant carcass, their jagged metallic jaws snapping bone with wet crunches. Further back near the shattered glass entrance of an abandoned shopping complex, a larger, dense crimson aura pulsated with ominous rhythm.

[TARGET DETECTED]

Name: Crimson-Eyed Abyssal Lurker (Rank E - Elite Sub-Boss)

Level: 8

HP: 1,200 / 1,200

Vulnerabilities: Underbelly soft tissue, Mana-conduit vein behind crest.

Mana Resonance: Dark Flame / Corrosive Acid

An Elite Rank E sub-boss.

In the standard hierarchy of the Hunter Association, taking down an Elite Rank E beast required a coordinated raid squad: an armored vanguard to absorb devastating claw strikes, two elemental mages for suppression, and a healer on standby. A single mistake against an Abyssal Lurker’s corrosive breath could dissolve flesh to bone in seconds.

Ethan’s pulse didn't quicken. Instead, a cold, calculating focus washed over him. In his past life, he had spent years hauling the bloodied parts of these exact creatures, memorizing their anatomy down to every sinew and tendon.

Now, backed by raw Monarch strength and infinite extraction, fear was an obsolete concept.

"First, clean the small fry," Ethan murmured.

He dropped from the eight-meter overpass.

THUD.

He landed in a low crouch without making a whisper of noise, his enhanced bone density absorbing the kinetic force effortlessly. Before the three Shadow Hounds could turn their heads toward the disturbance, Ethan surged forward like a black blur.

SWOOSH!

His combat knife flashed in the darkness. Ethan’s 47 points of Agility turned him into a lethal phantom.

SHCK!

The blade severed the nearest hound's spinal column at the neck junction before the beast could let out a whimper. Ethan smoothly pivoted on his right heel, catching the second hound in mid-leap. With his bare left hand, he clamped down on its upper snout, activating his active skill.

"Devourer's Grasp!"

CRUSH!

The hound's reinforced skull collapsed inward beneath Ethan's overwhelming 53 points of raw strength. Pitch-black mana surged from Ethan's palm, tearing through the creature's life force in less than a second.

The third hound recoiled, its instincts screaming mortal terror, but Ethan was already upon it. A roundhouse kick reinforced with dark aura struck its ribcage.

CRACK!

The beast hurtled twenty meters across the asphalt, smashing into a concrete support pillar and going limp instantly.

[Host Level Up! -> Level 3!]

[Gained 5 Free Stat Points.]

A hot surge of vitality revitalized Ethan's veins, wiping out any trace of physical exertion. He immediately dumped all 5 free points straight into Strength.

GROOOOOWL!

A deafening, guttural roar shook the dust from the surrounding ruins.

The Crimson Eyed Abyssal Lurker had noticed the slaughter.

Bursting through the shattered entrance of the mall, the eight foot tall reptilian monstrosity charged on four muscular limbs. Scales as hard as obsidian plate armor covered its back, while noxious green bile dripped from its elongated jaws, hissing and melting the pavement wherever it touched.

SPLAT!

The Lurker snapped its neck forward, spitting a concentrated glob of corrosive acid directly at Ethan.

Ethan leaned his torso slightly to the left, the deadly projectile whistling past his ear and dissolving a lamppost behind him into bubbling sludge. Without breaking momentum, Ethan sprinted directly into the monster's kill zone.

The Lurker lunged, its massive razor-sharp talons tearing the air with enough force to cleave an armored vehicle in half.

Ethan didn't retreat. He ducked beneath the sweep, sliding along the pavement directly under the monster's heavy frame. His eyes locked onto the glowing red weak point highlighted by Sovereign's Sight the unprotected soft belly tissue.

Channeling the entirety of his dark mana into his combat knife, Ethan drove the blade upward with both hands.

SCHRRRRRRP!

With sixty points of raw Monarch strength behind it, the blade sank hilt deep into the Lurker's underbelly. Ethan dragged the blade from chest to tail as he slid completely beneath the beast, disemboweling the creature in a single explosive motion.

Black blood and acidic bile showered the asphalt.

SKREEEEE!

The Abyssal Lurker crashed heavily onto the ruined road, thrashing violently as its health bar depleted at terrifying speed. Ethan rolled to his feet, leaped onto the monster's thrashing neck, and drove his abyssal-coated fist straight down into its skull plate.

BOOM!

The beast’s head shattered into the asphalt, silencing the roar forever.

[ELITE SLAIN: Crimson-Eyed Abyssal Lurker (Level 8)]

[Gained 1,800 EXP!]

Acquired Skill: Corrosive Abyssal Coating (Rank E - Imbue physical strikes and blades with flesh-melting corrosive dark energy).

Special Drop: Intact Abyssal Core (Grade: E - High Quality).

Ethan pulled his blood-drenched arm from the beast's cranium, holding a fist-sized, pulsing violet crystal in his palm.

A standard E-Rank Core sold for at least fifty thousand credits in the inner city black markets—more money than a slum scavenger could earn in two entire years. But Ethan had no intention of selling it for mere cash.

"Devour," Ethan commanded coldly.

The violet core dissolved in his palm, transforming into pure liquid energy that seeped directly through his pores into his Primordial Abyssal Core.

[Absorbing E-Rank Abyssal Core...]

[Bloodline Purity Increased: 5% -> 8%!]

[Physical Resistance Increased by 15%.]

Ethan took a slow, deep breath. His body crackled with dark, untamed energy as the crimson runes beneath his skin pulsed with absolute authority.

He glanced back toward the towering perimeter wall of Sector 7.

"Sunfire Guild... Lucius Thorne..." Ethan’s voice was as cold as the abyss itself. "Enjoy your high pedestals while you still can. When I return to the inner ring, I'm taking everything."
