“Shall we order?” Lucas suggested after they had been sitting down for some minutes, breaking the silence.

Sophia nodded, her eyes locking onto his. “I’m starving. I think you’re going to have to help me decide.”

Lucas smiled, feeling a mild flutter in his chest. What the hell? Regardless of that weird feeling, he replied to her.

“I thought you already knew what you wanted?” He asked her with a raised brow, silently prodding at her.

Sophia smirked at him, catching his drift, but didn’t say anything back. She picked up her menu and did her due diligence, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of asking for his choice once more. Lucas looked away and grabbed his own menu, a triumphant grin on his face as he had one up on her.

As they looked through the menu, Sophia bit her lip as if in deep thought about what to have for dinner that night. Lucas glanced at her, catching her movement. Her lips were pursed as her brows furrowed. She was concentrating and, for some reason, she looked ev

  • Chapter 60: The Meeting

After hearing those words from Collins, Lucas avoided Sophia for the rest of the week and Sophia did the same. There were no calls, no texts, or any other communication that went beyond formal business interactions which took place on the grounds of the company building. Occasionally, they saw each other around the office, but they simply walked past each other, exchanging nothing more than a casual nod or, if the need arose, a conversation with other employees of the company. That particular day, Lucas walked into the office, knowing it was the day Sophia would brief him alongside other members of the board concerning the progress she'd made since their partnership. It had almost been two weeks and the board was itching to know what progress she had made so far, especially with the way she bragged it would work out. Obviously, it was far too early to know how much headway she had made, but the board was ferocious to see if Lucas had made the right choice with Sophia. While the board

  • Chapter 59: A Threatening Identity

Another text message from Sophia appeared on Lucas' phone."Why are you ignoring me?" the message read, the question hanging in the air.Lucas didn't flinch, his gaze remaining steadily fixed on the documents spread out before him as he returned the phone to the table. He didn’t want to engage with this woman, especially after her husband had barged into his home. He had no desire to input himself in their marital trouble. In less than five minutes, the door to Lucas’ office barged open with Sophia walking into the office. She walked into his office, her footsteps firm and loud like she was on her way to a fight. Her face was a picture of displeasure, a deep frown etched across her features.Lucas raised an eyebrow, wondering why Helena hadn't sought his permission before letting Sophia in, something she had always done, but he was sure that it was because he had sent her on that errand earlier.Sophia closed the door firmly behind her, the sound echoing through the room just as Luca

  • Chapter 58: Curiosity

Lucas' eyes narrowed, his tone laced with curiosity and a hint of confusion as he inquired,"Mr. Alexander, what brings you to my house and at such a late hour in the evening? And more importantly, how did you get in?"Alexander's smile seemed genuine, but Lucas noticed a bit of hostility beneath the surface. How did this man get through the gates to begin with? Was his security really getting lax? He would have to speak to the men at the gate later on.Lucas gestured for him to take a seat, still shocked at the news."There's absolutely nothing to worry about, Mr Graham," Alexander said, his voice smooth and measured. "I simply wanted to meet the person my wife is working closely with, nothing more." He said, his eyes watching Lucas intently.Lucas' expression faltered, confusion etched on his face as he struggled to process the unexpected revelation. Never had he imagined Sophia was married; the thought had never crossed his mind.He thought back to their meetings, conversations, an

  • Chapter 57: The Husband

The next day at work, Lucas sat in his office, head deep in a stack of documents and financial reports. The morning sunlight streaming through the window highlighted the lines of concentration etched on his face. The night before had occupied his mind for some time, but when he had had a good night’s sleep, his mind went right back to the matter at hand. Growing the company in his image. Nothing else.Helena walked in a few hours later with a warm smile. "Good morning, Mr. Graham. I have some news that I believe you would be interested in."Lucas looked up, his eyes narrowing slightly from focusing on the paperwork. "What is it, Helena?" He asked promptly."The partnership with Ms. Sophia's company is officially a go," Helena announced, her voice filled with excitement. "The board has reviewed and approved the contract."Lucas' expression relaxed into a relieved smile. "That's great news," He said.It was not like the board had the power to reject something he had already approved him

As Lucas prepared for another busy day, his thoughts lingered on Sophia's compelling presentation. The memory of her confidence and expertise fueled his enthusiasm and with what he had seen the day before, he couldn't deny that LunaTech had won the partnership with his company. Still, Lucas couldn't understand the reason for his curiosity and why he had thought so much about her the day before, but something about her stood out for him.As Lucas' car glided through the morning traffic, he scanned his schedule on his phone. A few board meetings were lined up, but nothing that required his direct participation. He could easily assign the tasks to his trusted team. The office building soon appeared and Logan expertly maneuvered the vehicle to the entrance."Logan, I'll be in meetings most of the day. Come back at the usual time," Lucas instructed, stepping out of the car."Very well, sir," Logan replied, tipping his hat as Lucas got down from the car. Lucas strode into the building, h
