Chapter 6: Give me power

His parent's house was sinking. It cracked into two and tilted.

Xorn held unto Dior for dear life as the building sunk and they slide off the roof.

He grabbed onto the railing of the building before they could fall.

Screams came from all directions. Of the building, the people in the building couldn't get out.

He held on to her and her arms wrapped around his shoulders like a second skin. "Don't let go," he pleaded.

And she nodded "I won't."

"I know this is a bad time to ask, but I just can't understand Why won't you marry me? Did I do something wrong?"

"No"

"Have I not been good to you?"

"No!"

"Do I suck in the bed department?"

"Definitely not!" She exclaimed, and he blew out a breath of relief.

"So why?"

Her perfect eyes met his. Sadness and sorrow filled their brown orbs. "I went to the hospital earlier today. The doctor said, I can't have children."

He sucked in a sharp breath, the shock of what she said hitting him with full force.

Gaia spoke again. "Heavenly lights of death."

Lights beams appeared in the dark sky. "Strike with might."

Like lightning the lights fell from the sky striking down the humans, blood and screams, splashed and echoed.

A nightmare, it was a nightmare. His arms were getting tired. "Dior, I still love you. I still want to marry you."

Dior's eyes widened. "But your parents?"

"We can adopt. I don't care. I just want you to be with me always." He pleaded.

And tears filled those lovely eyes. "We're falling." She smiled sadly.

"I know, but will be fine. Just say yes, Dior."

Dior's eyes watered so much they turned red. "You're a good man, Xorn."

His fingers were slipping and her arms loosened around his neck.

"No, hold on tight Dior." he desperately pleaded, feeling tears stream down his cheeks.

She let go, and the world was in slow motion as she mouthed the words I'm sorry.

He clutched the box in his pocket. "Give me power, please." He was screaming.

As his other hand let go of the railing and he fell.

From above, the death rays came towards him like an arrow of lightning.

An arrow from the sky and he was falling to his death with his beloved. When it realized, he caught it instead with his left hand.

It was hot peeling his skin and Dior lay on the floor staring up at him as the building fell towards them as well.

He landed on the ground safe and sound, not a scratch.

The building was closing in on them. He ran to Dior on impulse. He raised his right hand, catching the building with ease.

Holding the wall, focusing all this strength in his palm.

He used the arrow of light in his left arm to strike the building wall and it exploded into pieces of raining stones on them. "Are you okay?" he grabbed her, checking for injuries.

"How did you do that?" she asked, eyes wide with shock, unable to comprehend what she had just seen.

He sighed with relief, leaning his forehead on hers. She was fine; she was well and alive and fine. He couldn't thank Leax enough for that box. "I'll explain everything, but first we need to get out of here."

He helped her up only to notice his parents and best friend also staring at him.

Questions in their eyes, along with a couple of their family friends.

Somewhere badly injured and his car was only enough for six. "We have to get out of here," he told his parents, and they nodded without questions.

All of them ran to their cars, ducking and avoiding the storm of deadly falling lights.

His arm hurt and the flesh smelt burned, tingling his nose. He was about to get into the car when a monster landed on the car truck, crushing it beneath its feet.

It was huge, made of armour with green long limbs and sharp teeth shaped like that of a parasite. He took a gentle step back as Dior followed suit. "What the heck is that?" his mother exclaimed in a whisper.

"I don't know, but I think it can't see us," Xorn whispered back. Gently bending down, he picked up a rock. "On the count of three, run like hell." He instructed.

They kept taking baby steps backwards. "One, two, three" snap someone stepped on something. The monster jumped so high in the air over him and Dior grabbing Josh.

Xorn held his breath as he watched his friend struggle in monsters grasp. "Help me! Xorn!" Josh yelled in horror.

"You can't go there, you will die." Dior whispered, grabbing his arm.

"I can't let Josh die." He argued.

Dior held his wrist firmly. "I know, but please reconsider your just diving at the monster." She made a reasonable point, but soon the monster opened its giant mouth the size of a crocodile.

And adrenaline kicked in Xorn ran with an unnatural speed, feeling the wind in his hair and his cheeks.

He leaped in the air like a frog on its heels, landing on the monster's shoulders. He used his arms and closed the monster's mouth, crushing its mouth between his arms.

The monster dropped Josh in pain and Xorn used all his might, punching the monster in the eye. The force against the monster's armoured skin was so much it sent it flying in to their neighbor's building.

He landed on his feet, his hand covered in green slime, probably the monster's blood, since he had no other reasonable explanation.

"Josh get the freaking car and stop gawking!"

Josh didn't need any divine instruction to do that. He quickly got into his car, fidgeting with the keys.

They waited as patiently as they could in fear, tapping their feet and grinding their teeth.

As soon as he opened the car, Xorn, Dior, and his parents got in. The other guests moved to their cars, and they were off driving to no destination in particular.

Their headlights turned off to avoid the beams in the sky. They drove holding their breathes incomplete dark. The only light was the burning houses.

The sight of burning houses and dead bodies everywhere made Xorn's skin crawl.

If Leax hadn't given him that box, he would be one of those dead bodies. He couldn't think of that now. He had to get them to safety.

"Where should we go?" Josh asked, eyes on the road.

Xorn texted Leax. Her reply was quick. "Head south. The refugees are heading south. You should be fine."

"Head south, it's probably safe there," he said to Josh, and he nodded in reply.

No one asked questions, not even Dior. They were all confused.

Who wouldn't be when someone you've known for five years literally just caught a building and killed a monster about 11feet tall?
