Ozias froze, his heart threatening to leap out of his chest and into his mouth.

‘So fast!’ he could only think of that, his eyes faintly catching the lingering pinkish energy that trailed behind him.

The pink haired man hadn't teleported. He had only moved so fast that he almost seemed to teleport in Ozias' vision.

He gulped inaudibly, still maintaining his courage even though he was scared shitless.

“You're too close to me,” Ozias uttered, causing the man to smile and step back.

“You're quite brave. I commend that,”

“The name's Cole… Cole Morvane.”

A few minutes later, Ozias and Cole were making their way into the city, passing through a marketplace and hunting down Zombies one by one.

Cole took the lead most times, but if he saw an opportunity for Ozias to learn more about the Apocalypse, Zombies and the System, he gave him the chance—to the dismay of Ozias.

He really was tired.

“So you're saying, that everything going on was… planned?” Ozias asked skeptically, not believing his ears.

“Yes,” Cole replied. “The Apocalypse should have happened a long time ago, but it was stalled by the interference of someone… Or something. And due to that, what should have occurred before even our parents were born, is happening now.”

Ozias nodded his head, seemingly staring into space. But only he could see what was hovering in his vision.

“Uh…huh,” Ozias huffed out a steamy breath, not knowing what to say. He understood most of the things he saw, but a few still confused him.

“Here, take this,” Cole stretched his hand towards Ozias, handing over a bulbous bottle with a cork blocking its narrow neck.

“What’s this?” Ozias asked, enjoying the satisfying feeling of his palm wrapping around the bottle's body.

“Antidote for the infection,” Cole replied, pointing his fingers at Ozias’ cheek and body. “We don't want you turning into one of them.”

Ozias eyes widened slightly, and he uncorked the bottle without further ado, downing the content in one go.

Cole suddenly gasped. “You weren't supposed to drink it!!”

Ozias' eyes widened again, and he panicked, his hands reaching for his mouth in horror.

He tried to induce nausea by sticking his finger in his throat, only for him to catch Cole laughing his ass off on the ground.

They were in a random shop—probably a hair salon. It was still in good shape, with some things scattered about when the occupants were rushing out, and they had stopped there for the time being.

Ozias watched Cole laughing like a madman, clutching his belly and seemingly letting it all out.

This weirdo of a man was insufferable. He really had time for jokes.

“..I'm so.. sorry… about that,” Cole eventually said, his voice breaking in between little bursts of laughter.

“But you should have seen the look on your face!” Cole said again, almost starting another bout of laughter but barely stopping himself.

Ozias looked to the side, staring at the pink furred cat looking at its owner incredulously. Even the cat seemed bamboozled by his behaviour, but with the way it looked, it appeared to be used to it.

“Haaa,” Cole let out a deep breath, calming down completely.

‘It wasn't even that funny,’ Ozias thought, but he refrained from saying anything aloud.

“Your body should be back to its peak in no time,” Cole spoke, looking up with a smile on his face.

Ozias suddenly had the urge to punch him, but he once again restrained himself. He couldn't beat him even if he wanted to. Cole was stronger than him by far.

“I've explained everything I can to you, so you should be able to survive better than the average man out there.”

Ozias paused, his head ringing alarms.

“And what's that supposed to mean?” He asked. “Where are you going?”

Cole only stared back at him without saying anything. Then, he picked up his cat and placed her on his shoulder.

Rising to his feet, Cole placed a hand on Ozias’ shoulder and said.

“Finding you was my goal, but leading you to the base wasn't truly a part of it. I only wanted to out of goodwill, and truth be told… If you want to survive in this new world, you have to learn it,”

“You are equipped with knowledge—what most lack at the moment—and if you use that knowledge to the max, coupled with your Lineage Ability, I doubt anything in this city can stop you… unless it's a member of the Three Rulers.”

Ozias shook his head, but as he opened his mouth to speak, Cole vanished, the door to the salon swaying with the gust of wind.

“And just like that, he left,” Ozias muttered, a little exasperated.

If he was being honest with himself, Cole helping him earlier felt shady. But he had followed him regardless because he was strong and seemed to know what he was doing.

He had also made mention of gramps and their family name, but that was something he still believed could be found out if one looked deeply.

Ozias sighed, tightening his grip over his makeshift spear.

He couldn't refute Cole's words though. If he wanted to survive, he had to learn it. Not everything would be presented to him on a silver platter.

He had to fight, get his hands dirty even, just so he could find true peace.

And what better way than to have great strength.

He was powerless against Cole, not even being able to match his speed, and if he had that kind of power—or even more—then he could take control of his own life and make the rules.

The smile on his face widened.

He hadn't even known when he began smiling, but parts of himself he didn't know existed, was slowly being revealed.

“Maybe… just maybe… I might be one of those adrenaline junkies.”

  • Into the Depths

A few minutes earlier…Ozias was struggling. He was weaponless now, having only a flipping crowbar in his inventory! He mumbled some curses under his breath, looking around for an exit. The nearest place where solid ground was was the tunnels. However, they were high up. The water level was low, and he wasn't sure if it was going to rise anytime soon. He made his way over to the wall, looking to see if he could scale it. But, the crystalline wall was slippery, as it barely had crevices or protrusions he could use as prop. Realising that climbing the wall was futile, Ozias thought back to the object he had seen some minutes ago. “The Second born of Zerathul.”There was a moment of silence as Ozias’ thoughts wandered. The System Quest was to find the firstborn of Zerathul, and if the second born of Zerathul was still in an egg—like he saw—then there was a high chance that the firstborn was still unhatched too. Ozias sucked in oxygen sharply and dived into the sea. He would find t

  • The Mermaid in the Sealed Sea

___[Second born of Zerathul]–––Ozias hesitated for a moment, before his mind went back to something his grandfather had told him once. Fighting against a current was futile most of the time. The best option was to go with it, and see where it took you. ‘That’s suicide!’ Ozias snapped internally, but it didn't look like he had much of a choice, because the next moment the crowbar unhooked, and he was taken away. ‘Grandpaaaa!!!’ Ozias screamed, blaming old Draven for his bad luck. Ozias was taken for one of the craziest rides of his life. His body flailed across the water, breaking several stalagmites and columns in the process. The water was nearing the ceiling already, his body nearly grazing some stalactites even. The water flowed through a cave, taking him deeper into the tunnel system. Slowly, his lungs began to burn. Without oxygen, he was suffocating, and his body was weakening. Flow could make the body superhuman, but even superhumans had limits. He had lasted longer

  • Raging Waters

Ozias felt a sudden force crash into his psyche, and he groaned, falling to a knee as blood poured out of his orifices. His ears rang, his vision blurred, he tasted blood, and his grip on the guns loosened. He raised a hand to his head and grabbed it, not before dropping the gun in it though. The disorienting feeling subsided after a few seconds, and Ozias shook his head, his eyes clearing. ‘What was that?’ he thought, picking his gun again and rising to his feet. He raised his gaze up to stare at what he had seen moments prior to his disorientation, and his gaze landed on it again. In that split second where he had the chance to behold it, Ozias glimpsed its gargantuan size. The creature's head alone was large enough to encompass over a hundred metres of space. Glistening white scales, layered over one another, coated its head and sinuous body. Three twisting sapphire-like horns curved around its head like a crown, protecting its head from harm and giving it a regal look. Its

Ozias stared straight ahead at the lady sitting without care on the railings, as if she wasn't risking falling into the water below. She had long flowing white hair and striking blue eyes hidden behind a pair of blue tinted sunshades. She had a long blue dress on, with blue heels to match. Her appearance was that of someone coming from a night party or something. The cloth was revealing, somewhat, but Ozias didn't seem to be looking at that. Instead, his eyes were trained on a dog seated close to her, staring straight at him with its soulless eyes. It was a Zombie, albeit a dog. ‘Come to think of it, I haven't seen animals around since this all began… Not even birds,’ Ozias thought. The dog was a Dobermann, its body decaying already, with its spine even shooting through its skin. The dog just sat there, staring at the lady like a loyal guard dog. Ozias didn't know what to make of the situation, until the lady spoke. “Hello, handsome… What brings you here?” Her voice came with a

  • System Quest

___[System Quest Received: RETRIEVAL]—[Beneath the calm surface lies an endless abyss. Seek the firstborn of Zerathul, the Sea God of the Forgotten Abyss]—[Rewards: ???]–––“Hmmm, I was wondering when I was going to get one of these,” Ozias smiled wistfully, noticing that what had triggered the Quest was probably what he was seeing ahead of him. He stood on a bridge, and beneath it—a few inches into the water—was a circular rift in reality. Vast quantities of Flow spiralled around it; so thick was it that even without Awakened Eyes, anyone could see the Flow. The bodies of Zombies were littered around him, their heads caved in, splattered, crushed, or severed from their bodies. Ozias’ fists were bloody, covered in rotten flesh and brain matter. He was getting the hang of it. He finally gained a snippet of understanding of his Lineage. His body was a weapon… No. It was THE weapon. He was the only Blade he needed. Weapons were just tools used to project and amplify the power

  • Skill Savant

[Congratulations! You are the first Earthling to earn a Title][Title, Skill Savant, has been granted][Skill, Vacuum, has been learnt]___[Skill(s): Vacuum: The World of energy bends to your will]–––“...No energy cost,” Ozias simply said, before he continued on. As impressive as the skill was, it was unable to be used passively. He wasn't that skilled in using it, otherwise its use would have been mouth-watering.That said, it didn't mean the skill was subpar. Fact is, it was better than Ozias was letting on—he had replenished his Flow in merely ten seconds after all. He didn't dwell too much on it because there were more pressing matters to attend to. For example, three Zombies had entered his Awakened Eyes range, but he still couldn't open his eyes yet. “Me and my shitty luck,” Ozias mumbled, raising his weapon. Then he paused, his face paling. “Can this get any worse?” He couldn't help but say when he sensed two more Zombies entering his range from the opposite direction.
