Senator Aldrich watched the morning news from his penthouse suite.

The reports were already flooding in. Anonymous sources. Leaked documents. Graphic images of the prisoners, the network, the corruption.

His phone hadn't stopped ringing.

He ignored it.

Webb was dead. The evidence was public. His carefully constructed empire was crumbling.

But Aldrich wasn't finished. Not yet.

He reached for his secure line. Dialed a number he'd memorized years ago.

"Get me the team. The contingency."

A voice replied. "Are you sure, sir?"

"I'm sure. Burn everything. Every file. Every record. Every person who knows anything."

"Understood."

Aldrich hung up. He walked to the window and stared at the city below.

Cross thought he'd won. Thought he'd exposed the network.

But Aldrich had planned for this. Planned for every eventuality.

The network wasn't just one operation. It was a hydra. Cut off one head, and three more grew back.

He pulled out a second phone. Sent a message to his contact inside the Agency.

"Cross is still alive. Find him. Eliminate him. No mistakes."

The reply came fast. "Understood."

Aldrich smiled. He'd lost Webb. Lost the prisoners. Lost the evidence.

But he still had power. Still had influence. Still had enough money to disappear and rebuild.

Cross might have won the battle. But he hadn't won the war.

Not yet.

---

Dante watched the news from a diner on the outskirts of the city.

Naomi sat across from him. Her face was pale. Exhausted. But her eyes were sharp.

"It's working," she said. "The evidence is everywhere. The network is exposed."

"Not all of it." Dante pushed his coffee aside. "Aldrich is still out there. Still connected. He'll burn everything and rebuild."

"How do you know?"

"Because that's what I would do."

Naomi nodded slowly. "Then we need to find him first. Before he disappears."

"I know where he is. The Harbor Hotel. Suite 1400. He's been there since the airfield."

"So we go in. Take him down. End this."

Dante shook his head. "It won't be that easy. He'll have guards. Layers of security. He knows I'm coming."

"Then we plan. We prepare. We—"

"No." Dante stood. "I'm done planning. Done preparing. I'm going to walk into that hotel and put a bullet in his head."

Naomi grabbed his arm. "That's suicide."

"It's closure." He pulled free. "I've been running for weeks. Hiding. Surviving. I'm done running."

Naomi stared at him. "Then I'm coming with you."

"You're not. You're going to stay here and make sure the evidence stays public. If Aldrich dies, the network might try to bury it. You're the insurance."

Naomi's jaw tightened. "You can't do this alone."

"I've been doing this alone my whole life." He turned to leave. "Don't follow me. Don't try to stop me. This is my fight."

He walked out of the diner.

The Harbor Hotel loomed ahead. Glass and steel. Cold and indifferent.

Dante crossed the street. Entered through the main lobby.

The guards were already there. Two of them. Armed. Alert.

They recognized him.

"Cross. You're not welcome here."

"I'm not leaving."

The guards raised their weapons. "Last warning."

Dante didn't stop. Didn't slow down.

He walked toward them. Hands at his sides.

The first guard fired.

Dante moved. The bullet missed.

He was on the guard before the man could fire again. One punch. The guard dropped.

The second guard fired. Dante felt the bullet graze his arm. He kept moving.

The guard was fast, but Dante was faster. He took the man down with a chokehold.

Then he walked to the elevator. Pressed the button for the fourteenth floor.

The doors opened. He stepped inside.

The elevator rose.

Dante checked his weapon. One magazine. Enough.

The doors opened onto the fourteenth floor.

The hallway was empty. Quiet.

Suite 1400 was at the end. The door was open.

Dante approached. His weapon raised.

Inside, the suite was empty. The furniture was overturned. Papers scattered.

Aldrich was gone.

But something else was there. A man, standing in the center of the room.

Dante's blood went cold.

The man turned. It was Viktor Kral.

"Cross. I was hoping you'd come."

"Where's Aldrich?"

"Gone. Disappeared. He left this for you."

Viktor tossed a phone. Dante caught it.

Aldrich's voice came through the speaker.

"Cross. You've been a thorn in my side. But this isn't over. I'll be back. Stronger. More prepared. And when I return, I'll kill everyone you've ever loved."

The recording ended.

Dante crushed the phone in his hand.

Viktor smiled. "He's gone. We all are. The network is dead. But Aldrich is alive. And he'll come for you."

Dante stared at the empty suite.

He'd won the battle. But the war was far from over.

"Where is he?"

"I don't know. But I know someone who does."

Dante's grip tightened on his weapon. "Who?"

Viktor's smile widened. "My sister. Sasha. She's been planning this for years. She knows everything about Aldrich. His locations. His contacts. His escape routes."

Dante's jaw tightened. "You want me to trust her?"

"I want you to survive. Take it or leave it."

Dante stared at Viktor. The mercenary was right. Sasha was his only lead.

"Where is she?"

Viktor gave him an address. "She's waiting for you. Don't keep her waiting."

Dante turned to leave.

"Cross." Viktor's voice stopped him. "One more thing. Aldrich isn't alone. He has allies. People who will protect him. People who will kill for him."

"Who?"

Viktor's expression darkened. "The Agency. They're still backing him. Webb was just a middleman. The real power is in the shadows."

Dante nodded. He walked to the elevator.

The hunt continued.

And he wouldn't stop until Aldrich was dead.

But she didn't look away."Three years ago," she began, "I was recruited by the network. Not by choice. They had my family. They threatened to kill them if I didn't cooperate. I was young. Scared. I did what they asked."Dante's jaw tightened. "That's the same story you told me before.""Because it's true. But there's more." She took a shaky breath. "After my family died, I had nothing.
