Sasha Kral's safehouse was a converted factory on the industrial east side.
Dante approached through the loading bay, weapon drawn. The building was dark. Silent. But he could feel eyes on him.
A voice echoed from the shadows. "You're late."
Sasha stepped into the dim light. Her arms were crossed. Her expression was unreadable.
"Viktor sent me," Dante said.
"I know. He told me you'd come." She gestured toward a table in the center of the room. "Sit."
Dante didn't move. "I'm not here to make small talk. Aldrich is gone. I need to find him."
"Everyone needs to find him. That's the problem." Sasha walked to the table. "Aldrich didn't just disappear. He was extracted. By a team that doesn't exist on any official record."
Dante's jaw tightened. "The Agency."
"Higher than that. Someone inside the government who's been protecting him for years. Someone who wants the network to survive." She pulled out a folder. "I've been tracking his movements for months. He has three safehouses. Four if you count the island."
"Where is he now?"
Sasha opened the folder. Spread out photographs. Satellite images. Locations.
"He's here." She pointed to a remote compound in the mountains. "A private retreat. Owned by a shell company that traces back to Aldrich's chief of staff."
Dante studied the images. The compound was isolated. Surrounded by forest. One road in and out.
"Security?"
"Heavy. At least twenty men. Cameras. Motion sensors. He's prepared for a siege."
Dante's mind raced. "Then I need a way in."
Sasha smiled. It was cold and sharp. "I have one. But it comes with a price."
"Name it."
"Viktor. He's a liability. He knows too much and he's too loyal to Aldrich. I want him eliminated."
Dante stared at her. "He's your brother."
"He's a threat. And I need him gone before he ruins everything I've built." Her eyes were hard. "You want Aldrich. I want Viktor. That's the deal."
Dante considered it. Viktor had helped him. Given him information. But Viktor was also a mercenary. A killer. He'd sell Dante out the moment it benefited him.
"Fine," Dante said. "Viktor dies. In exchange, I get access to the compound."
Sasha nodded. "You have forty-eight hours. After that, Aldrich moves again."
Dante grabbed the folder. Turned to leave.
"Cross." Sasha's voice stopped him. "One more thing. The mole. The second source. I know who it is."
Dante froze. "Who?"
"Your old partner. The one who trained you. The one who's been with you from the start."
Dante's blood went cold. "Webb is dead."
"Not Webb. The other one. The one you never suspected."
Dante's mind raced. The list was short. Gary was dead. Ana was presumed dead. Naomi was cleared.
Only one person remained.
"Name," he said.
Sasha's smile widened. "You'll figure it out. When the time is right."
Dante's hand moved to his weapon. "Tell me."
"Not yet. You need to see it for yourself. Trust me, Cross. When you do, you'll understand."
Dante stared at her. The arrogance. The confidence.
She was playing games. Holding information hostage.
But he needed her. Needed the access to Aldrich's compound.
He lowered his hand. "Forty-eight hours. Then I'm coming for Viktor."
"You do that." Sasha turned away. "And Cross. Be careful who you trust. The mole is closer than you think."
Dante left the factory. The night was cold. The city was quiet.
He walked through the streets, the folder tucked under his arm.
The mole. The second source. Someone who'd been with him from the start.
Gary was dead. Ana was presumed dead. Webb was dead.
Only one person remained. Someone he'd never suspected. Someone who'd been by his side through everything.
His old mentor. The man who'd taught him everything he knew.
But that man was dead. Had been for years.
Or was he?
Dante stopped. His heart pounded.
He pulled out his phone. Scrolled through his contacts.
One name. One number he'd never deleted.
The man who'd recruited him. The man who'd trained him. The man who'd disappeared years ago.
His first handler. Before Webb.
Dante's thumb hovered over the number.
He'd never called it. Never tried to find out what happened to the man who'd made him.
But now he wondered.
Was it possible? Was the mole someone from his past? Someone he'd thought was dead?
Dante pocketed the phone. His mind was spinning.
He had forty-eight hours to find Viktor. Forty-eight hours to get into Aldrich's compound. Forty-eight hours to end this.
But first, he needed to find the truth.
About the mole.
About his past.
About everything.
He walked faster.
The hunt was just beginning.

Aftermath
The cemetery was quiet.Dante stood before the headstone, his hands at his sides. The grass was green. The sky was blue. The world was peaceful. He'd never visited his parents' grave. Not once. Viktor and Lara waited in the car at the edge of the cemetery.Dante knelt. Touched the stone."I'm sorry," he said. "I should have come sooner. I should have been better. But I'm here now."The silence was heavy. The weight of the past pressed down on him.He spoke again. "I stopped them. The people who killed you. The people who destroyed our family. I stopped all of them."He paused. "I don't know if that makes up for anything. I don't know if I'll ever be whole. But I wanted you to know that I tried. I tried to make things right."Naomi approached. She knelt beside him. "They would be proud of you."Dante looked at her. "You think so?""I know

The Unlikely Alliance
Dante sat in the mountain cabin, staring at the wall. Naomi was asleep in the next room. Viktor was recovering from his wounds. Lara was outside, keeping watch. The weight of the past twenty-four hours pressed down on him. The attack on the safehouse. The decoy. The meeting with Evelyn. The realization that the shadow council was everywhere. He pulled out his phone. No messages. No threats. Nothing. The silence was worse than the violence.Naomi appeared in the doorway. "You haven't slept.""I can't sleep. Every time I close my eyes, I see them coming.""Then we fight." She sat beside him. "We've done it before. We'll do it again."Dante looked at her. The woman who'd betrayed him. The woman who'd come back. The woman who'd risked everything to save him."I don't know if I can do this anymore," he said. "I don't know if I have anything left."Naomi took his hand. "You have me. You have Viktor. You have Lara. You have a reason to fight."Dante squeezed her hand. "I know. That's what sc
The Cost of Defiance
Dante had just closed his eyes when the world exploded. The blast threw him from the couch. Glass shattered everywhere. The walls buckled. Naomi's scream cut through the chaos. He scrambled to his feet, ears ringing. The safehouse was gone. Walls collapsed. Fires spreading. Bodies in the rubble.Viktor was on the ground, blood pouring from his shoulder. Lara was pinned under a beam.Dante moved on instinct. He pulled Lara free. Dragged her to cover.Naomi was crouched behind an overturned table. "They found us. They knew exactly where we were."Of course they did. The council had resources Dante couldn't imagine. Surveillance. Informants. Eyes everywhere.Dante grabbed his weapon. "We need to move. Now."They fought through the chaos. Dante fired blindly into the smoke. The attackers were everywhere. Black-clad figures moving through the flames. He dropped two of them. Then a third.Viktor was slowing. His wound was bad. He'd lost a lot of blood."Leave me," Viktor said. "Get the othe
The Shadow Council
The message appeared on Dante's phone at 3:17 AM."Your war is a distraction. The real enemy has always been above you. Meet us at the old courthouse. Come alone. We'll show you the truth."Dante stared at the screen. His hand moved to his weapon out of instinct. He'd been sleeping, but the adrenaline hit him like a shot of cold water.Naomi stirred beside him. "What's wrong?""Someone wants to meet.""Who?""I don't know." He swung his legs off the bed. "But they know where we are. They knew how to reach me."Naomi sat up. Her eyes were sharp, fully awake. "That's not good.""No. It's not."He dressed quickly. Checked his weapons. Naomi grabbed his arm. "Don't go alone.""I have to. They said come alone.""Since when do you follow orders from strangers?"Dante looked at her. The fear in her eyes was real. The love was real. But he needed answers."I'll be careful," he said. "I'll stay in contact."Naomi released his arm. "If you're not back in two hours, I'm coming after you.""I kno
The Reckoning
The safehouse fell silent.Dante's hand rested on his weapon. His eyes were locked on Naomi's face. She was pale. Trembling. But she didn't look away."Three years ago," she began, "I was recruited by the network. Not by choice. They had my family. They threatened to kill them if I didn't cooperate. I was young. Scared. I did what they asked."Dante's jaw tightened. "That's the same story you told me before.""Because it's true. But there's more." She took a shaky breath. "After my family died, I had nothing. No reason to keep working for the network. But I was already in too deep. I knew too much. They would have killed me if I tried to leave.""So you stayed.""I stayed. And I did terrible things. Things I'm not proud of." Her voice cracked. "Then I met you. And I started to see a way out. A way to fight back. To make things right."Dante's hand moved away from his weapon. "Why didn't you tell me this before?""Because I was ashamed. Because I was afraid you'd hate me. Because I was
