Slowly, he opened his eyes. When he did, a white brilliant light flashed into his pupils which made him shut his eyes instinctively. When he opened his eyes again, he did it gently, moving his head to the other side to avoid repeating the old mistake. There was a white wall a distance away from where he was. Slowly, his brains started to register the state of his body, in a bid to understand what was happening to him at that moment. He realised that his body was positioned horizontally. He was in a lying position. The urgency that this realisation brought made him seat up at once. Looking around, he saw some medical equipments and machines. He heard some beeping sounds coming from his left side. He traced the machine to his hand. There was a syringe slipped into his wrist which was connected to the medical equipment. ""I'm in a hospital?"" He muttered, trying to convince himself. He felt a weight on his head. There was something wrapped around his head. He quickly removed the object that was wrapped around his head. He threw it to a corner. He ripped off all the tubes and drip properties connected to his body. ""Why am I in a hospital?"" He wondered. It's been a couple of seconds since he woke from what looked like a nap. And up to this moment, he didn't feel any ounce of pain in any part of his body. Aside from the side slight headache he felt earlier before his eyes opened, there was no trace of pain in any area of his body. In fact, his body felt very light and vibrant. He felt so hale that he almost thought that he was a new person. ""If I'm not feeling any pain, then why am I in a hospital?"" The more he thought about his situation, the more questions he had. All of a sudden, as though a stream of information was opened in his mind, several details started to pour into his head. Slowly, he recalled who he was and what happened last to him. He recalled how he had slaved all his life to please his wife, yet he was always considered not good enough for her. In his effort to please her, he had mostly starved himself and worked like a beast for the past five months in order to be prepared enough to surprise her on their wedding anniversary. All of a sudden, he had been sacked and then he had gone to the Director's house to ask questions and by extension, get his salary. He had handed a pack of condoms to the director and was arguing about his salary when he saw a familiar face. "Jada." He gritted his teeth when all the information were reinstalled in his brain. He jumped off the bed. He had to get to the end of this. He wasn't out of his mind. He saw her clearly. He could recall what she said before he had lost his grip and fallen off the staircase. How could she do that to him? Even though she knew that he had always lived to please her! How could she cheat on him? Especially with his boss?! ""Hey, sir! Where are you going?"" A random voice called him. Jaai looked back and saw a nurse. He picked a race and off he went. His body felt lighter, and his legs faster. ______ It was fifteen minutes past two in the villa of the Hullevard family. The Hullevard family was one of the third-thier families in Crescent City. It was considered one of the largest families in the city. It was an extended family with its members scattered around the city. One of the daughters of the Patriach of the Hullevard city was called Elaine. She had two sons and one daughter. And of all her children, her daughter was her biggest asset. Her daughter was considered the most beautiful lady in the city. Every influential man in the city wants to get close to her, but she was married to a deadbeat who was chosen for her by her grandfather. Elaine has been looking for ways to kick the useless son-in-law out but it wasn't so easy because her father really likes him. Nobody knew why the Old patriach of the Hullevard family likes the deadbeat son-in-law!!! Elaine was with her two sons in the foyer of the villa, preparing to leave for the birthday party of her father. She was waiting for her daughter, Jada, to return with her useless husband so that they could all leave for the party that will be happening by four in the evening. While Elaine was waiting, Jada had suddenly walked in with the director of the firm where her son-in-law works. Jada had claim that her husband fell from the staircase at work place and was in coma. ""The doctor says that it will be a miracle if he wakes up in a month. The earliest he can wake up is probably in two months." Jada said, tears rolling from her eyes. Jada didn't tell her mother about what really happened. Although she knew that her mother wanted her to divorce Jaai, yet she knew that her mother would not approve of her going to another man's house. ""What are we going to tell grandpa?"" Marcus, the eldest son of Elaine asked. ""We cannot tell my dad about it. Do you want to ruin his day? We'll just find an excuse. After the party, I'll go and visit him in the hospital."" Elaine said. ""I don't think I can go to the party. My husband is lying helplessly in the hospital bed."" Jada burst out in tears. The director took a glance at her. The look on his face was like he was really extremely stunned by her theatrical performance. ""You should get your acts together! We need to be at the hall in an hour!"" Elaine snapped at her. ""What are you crying about? Are you serious? Over that piece of crap? Who knows, God might be trying to be kind to him. Scumbags like him don't deserve to live."" The youngest son dissed. ""Gerard!!!"" Elaine yelled. ""Whatever."" Gerard rolled his eyes. ""You are kind, Mr Director. You should go home. Jaai is a hassle here, I can't imagine how much of a trouble he must be to you."" Elaine smiled warmly at the director. Who cares if Jaai dies? If her daughter has a shot with someone like this, wouldn't it be the perfect blessing? ""Very well then."" The Director returned the smile. ""Please do not think too much of it. I'm sure he'll get back on his feet."" He turned to Jada, assuring her. Jada nodded slowly, an evil smile curling up her lips. The director turned around and headed to the door. Finally, he can have Jada all to himself, he thought, as he smiled on his way out. As soon as he pushed the door open, someone suddenly walked into him, bumping hard into him! When he lifted his gaze, his eyes almost flew out of his face as exclaimed, ""Jaai!!!!"" His lungs almost burst open.Latest Chapter
Chapter 13
This was an impossible situation! The old man only gets up twice! When he walks in, and when he leaves! How in the whole wide world was he on his feet again? For who? The most useless man in the whole extended family?Things must be going wrong. "The potion that he gave grandpa must have bewitched the old man." Someone muttered. This was a very strange situation, and none of the family members knew how to process it let alone accept it for what it was. Even Jaai was as confused and stupefied as the rest of the family. When he had gone to the traditional healer to get the potion, he hadn't thought that it would mean a lot to his grandfather. Although he was quite worried that the potency might be compromised because these herbal doctors can make up stories in order to sell their products. Jaai never imagined that this potion would work so efficiently to the extent that the old man would get up on his feet, walk to him and hug him! As if those gestures were not enough, Old Mr Hull
Chapter 12
There was a standstill in the hall for a moment. The silence was so loud that it almost became defeaning. The entire family of Elaine jumped on their feet. Their eyes bulged at the sockets so hard that it felt like their eyes would pop out of their head. This young man that had just walked in was someone whom they didn't think they would see in a month. How come he is here? "Is that the deadbeat?" Baron whispered, hardly looking at any member of his family. "Elaine's family surely know how to create a scene." Wirtz gritted his teeth. Ever since what Archie cost his family, Wirtz has been looking for a way to lay claim of a scapegoat on whom he would exhaust all his rage. "Why does he look quite different?" Archie muttered, snapping out of his own problems. "Different?" The lady with him wondered. "Yea. Like he's been spending on his skin lately." Archie added, nodding. Jaai stood at the door for a moment. His gaze traversed every corner of the hall. He looked from one family
Chapter 11
Archie was looking like an imbecile who just transmigrated into a new planet. "Speak you fool!!!" Wirtz blarred like a siren. "It wasn't supposed to be like this. I did as told." Archie mumbled. "You did what? Who told you to do what?!" Elaine asked looking concerned. "The pot. I was supposed to hold it to his face for a while. It will help his bones. He will stop getting tired easily..." Archie tried to explain. "For how long?" The caregiver interrupted. "Huh? For how long were you told to hold the pot up?" "Long enough." Archie mumbled. "Get lost!!!" Wirtz barked. Archie felt useless and dejected. He still didn't understand what he did wrong. He dragged his feet away. "Enough." The old man called for order. "Father! We cannot let this slide. This could have gotten worse! We need to punish Archie and his entirely family!!!" Wirtz argued fervently. "Really, Wirtz? And his entire family?" Elaine asked. "Why drag his family into it when it was a mistake?""A mistake? Did you
Chapter 10
"I'll just ask the grandson of the Colonel. The kid is an instructor of any culturally influenced instrument." The old man said. Then, a cough. The old man slowly looked back to Baron. "You've done well, Wirtz Jr. Your father should be proud of you." Following the praise of the old man, Baron felt like a horse was riding within him. He felt on top of the world. There was no doubt. His family will definitely get the favor of the old man. He could walk back to his family with his head in the sky. His father met him with a big smile. There was no limit to chivalry and planning. "I'm very proud of you. Today can't get any better." Wirtz playfully pat Baron on the shoulder. "In fact, I forgive your mother."While they revel in the moment, an activity ensued across the aisle.A certain smell swelled across the hall, influencing the air with something somewhat foul and pleasant at the same time. "What's that smell?""It smells very different. Ancient, you would say?"Archie rose to his

As soon as he whistled, the door flung open, and five henchmen came running into the hall. Four of the men were carrying a long black box. Each man holding each end of the black box. The fifth man was leading the way. He was making sure that there was no obstruction as the other four ventured through the aisle. The leader of the henchmen walked straight to Baron and Wirtz. He bowed to them, and the four took suit. "Why are you stopping here? Move along." Wirtz snapped at the men. The men quickly picked up themselves and headed straight to the patriarch. "I'll leave my son to do the honor of presenting this gift to you, father." Wirtz said with a full smile, placing his palm on his chest as he bowed. Then he took his seat. All eyes were on Baron and the five men. There were murmurs flying around. "His family loves to make a big show. What the hell." The son of the caregiver grunted as he watched. His wife, a young petite lady, held his hand to help calm his nerves. He took a gl

The grand hall of the Hullevard family was bustling with people. Today was the birthday party of the patriach of the family. Everyone was present. The children, grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grand children, grand sons-in-law, grand daughters-in-law, great grand children and many more. The patriach, Chairman Hullevard had three sons and one daughter. The daughter is the eldest, but she was accorded the least respect because of her marital life. She married late amongst all the children of the patriach, so technically, the children of her siblings were pretty much older than her children. Also, the rumors and controversies surrounding the death of her husband was enough to ostracized her family from the extended family. Well, today wasn't the day for establishing differences. It was the day when all the family members got along. It was the great day to celebrate the old man. All hands must be on deck. The large door of the hall opened all of a sudden and all the ch
