Chapter 6
Hearing his number, Kayn headed towards the door with trembling steps; his heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest from excitement. The official quickly shoved the pill into the hand of the boy in front of him. Kayn swallowed the pill in a single gulp and began to wait; with each passing second, the fear of failure multiplied.
Just when he thought he had failed, he began to feel a warmth in his chest; the warmth slowly enveloped his entire body. He could feel his power down to his marrow. At that moment, the life energy radiating from his body was enough to leave everyone's jaws dropped.
The life energy was black in color, not transparent like the others, but completely dark. Those in the crowd whispered among themselves, "This is a boss-class!"
Hearing them, Eric didn't understand what was going on, nudged the boy standing next to him, and asked what this meant.
The boy was surprised by the question. Turning to Eric, he laughed and said, "Don't you really know the classes?" When Eric said no, he started laughing. "You ignorant fool, you even came to the interview, aren't you ashamed of yourself? There are 4 main types in hunting: physical, solidifier, transformer, and boss-class. You've already figured out their traits from their names anyway. Don't ever forget this, okay?"
At that moment, Kayn noticed the life energy rising from his body and the crowd looking at him with curious eyes. The official man pointed to the entrance gate with a surprised expression. He was quite shocked. Someone of the boss-class was a very rare sight.
As Kayn happily walked inside, he cast a final glance at Eric.
Angered by the words of the boy in front of him, Eric thought to himself, "Arrogant brat, I'll deal with you later."
At that moment, the official shouted "255," and Eric pushed through the crowd toward the door. He was very excited; today was salvation day. He would finally be free. He was dying to embark on major adventures. He came to the official, who was a middle-aged, thin, somber-faced man with slightly graying brown hair. He handed the pill to Eric.
Eric took the pill from the man's hand, and before swallowing it, looked at the man and asked, "Could you please tell me what exactly this pill does?"
The official calmly replied, "These pills allow your life energy to come out. They act kind of like a key."
After thanking the man for his explanation, Eric took the small white pill in his hand and swallowed it. His excitement and fear were written all on his face.
As the wait dragged on, Eric, beginning to get worried, started having thoughts like, "Do I really have no power?"
Just a little power would be enough for him, just a little.
When he opened his eyes and saw the pale white life energy radiating from his body, he wanted to jump for joy. Looking around, he realized he was the only one celebrating and saw the contemptuous expression on people's faces. Someone from the crowd laughed and said, "Look at that, a nameless person and he's even celebrating."
Eric didn't understand what was happening; he had power, but people were laughing at him.
The official felt sorry for this boy; he looked kind and good-natured. Life had shown its injustice to him once more.
Eric wanted to sink into the ground and disappear; he had been humiliated in front of hundreds of people.
Looking at the boy, the official pointed to the old building next door instead of the entrance gate; he had won, but in a bad way.
As Eric walked toward the old building, the people in the crowd behind him shouted, "Yes, go to where you belong, to the worthless section!"
Eric looked back at the crowd before leaving; he would never forget this day and would take his revenge, so he wanted to remember this moment as best as he could. Then he turned his back and started walking quickly toward the old building.
When he reached the front of the building, he looked at the writing on the broken sign: "The Nameless Section."
Slowly opening the old door and stepping inside, there was a long, dark corridor, and the inside was as dirty as the outside. He started walking.
When he reached the end of the road, he encountered a large hall; a fire was burning in the fireplace, and students were singing and having fun around it. They were ordinary kids like Eric, and they all looked to be his age.
He thought to himself, "At least I won't feel like a stranger." The place had a warm atmosphere, and those who saw him immediately started coming over to him; he had become the center of attention in the room.
Everyone came over affectionately and greeted him. Their attitudes were not like the snobs outside, but rather friendly.
Eric also introduced himself nicely. A tall, stocky boy from the crowd came over, shook his hand, and said,
"Hello Eric, I'm Manas, the student administrator here, and this is the nameless section. Everyone here, including myself, came from the interviews a month ago. We're just waiting for the new year to start. Training starts next Monday from onwards. I hope we spend the next 5 years well."
Eric thanked Manas for the explanation. Manas pointed to a chair for him to sit on. After he sat down, they continued the fun right where they left off. The vibe of the place resembled an inn; those sitting by the fire were singing songs and talking about tales and legends.
Turning to Manas, Eric asked, "Is the situation of every section like this?"
Manas, looking surprised, replied, "There's no such thing as 'every section', only the nameless are kept in a different building and trained. Everyone else stays in the same building and enjoys the same conditions. It's much more luxurious compared to here, but trust me, you won't find this kind of fun anywhere else. The other sections have discipline and oppressive instructors."
Looking at Manas, Eric asked, "So aren't there any duty instructors here?"
Manas laughed and said, "Of course not, instructors only come here to give lessons. According to what they say, it was a mistake for us to study anyway; even if we become hunters, since we're on the front lines, we're going to die."
Eric now understood the situation of the nameless; their duty was usually to stall and tire the hunted monsters by throwing them into danger on the front lines. When Eric understood his situation, he realized his bad luck still hadn't changed.
Toward evening, Manas stood up, turned to those in the hall, and said, "It's time for dinner, line up and follow me." Everyone lined up behind Manas in a single file, left their section, and went to the academy's common cafeteria.
The cafeteria was a single-story, quite large, rectangular place with white marble walls.
When they stepped inside, Eric couldn't believe his eyes; tables meters long with all kinds of food on them were beautiful enough to mesmerize anyone.
When the other students sitting in the hall saw the nameless arriving, the voices stopped. The whole group went to the table in the furthest corner and sat down.
Eric could feel the piercing gazes upon them down to his bones.
Turning to Manas across from him, Eric asked, "Is it forbidden to sit across from them?"
Manas replied, "Do you think they'd want to take us in? Just look at them."
Eric agreed with him; they were ostracized by everyone. After eating, everyone formed a line and began to leave the cafeteria.
The nonchalant attitude of the nameless made them the center of attention as usual.
At that moment, Eric's eyes caught Kayn, who was the center of attention; everyone was racing to talk to him. Kayn also looked quite pleased with himself.
When the line of the nameless and Kayn tried to leave the cafeteria at the same time, due to a brief scuffle, Eric lost his balance and felt like he had bumped into someone. Turning around, he realized the person he bumped into was Kayn. He felt lucky that he hadn't bumped into someone else.
When Eric looked at Kayn, he was astonished by his expression; he saw a frown and disgust on his face. Wanting to ask how he was doing, he lost his balance and fell to the ground with a punch he took to the face. The atmosphere in the hall had tightened; a fight could break out between the two groups at any moment.
Eric still couldn't believe what was happening; could a person change this fast? Maybe he had been like this from the beginning and was just waiting for his time.
One of the instructors arrived, stepped between the two groups, and said to the nameless, "You good-for-nothings, are you trying to start a fight now? Go back to your building immediately." Since the group members were used to such biased treatment, they didn't care about these words, except for Eric, who suddenly started laughing. "So that's how things work here. Honestly, I like this. It means you want war, but know this: you've chosen the wrong person as an enemy."
Right at that moment, with a kick to the head, he hit the ground again. The red-haired girl he had seen at the entrance was the one who delivered the kick. "How dare you threaten Class A, who do you think you are?" she said, her voice showing she was angry. Just as she was about to punch him, Manas blocked her path and shouted, "Leave my friend alone!" His voice echoed throughout the hall. He grabbed Eric's arm and they

An atmosphere of shouting and chaos prevailed in the Nameless section. Manas was trying to calm everyone down. Those in the group felt that the humiliation inflicted upon their friend was inflicted upon them as well; they wanted revenge. Realizing he couldn't silence everyone, he climbed onto the table and shouted for them to quiet down, and all sounds in the hall suddenly ceased. Speaking up again, he said no revenge would be taken, as no one supports us in the academy. Making a wrong move would get all of us expelled. From amidst the crowd, a pale-skinned, black-haired, thin boy named Drutan stood up and said that there is actually a fair and rule-compliant way for revenge; we can challenge them to a match. Right now, they still can't use their powers like us, so this way we can teach them a lesson.Manas angrily said that is true, we can defeat them now, but what will happen when they grow stronger? If they try to take revenge on us later, it won't be good for us at all. Remember t

Eric POVWhen the morning sun illuminated the horizon, the cool and sweet morning breeze caressed Eric's face. Rubbing his eyes, Eric looked around; since he had slept in front of the stable, what happened yesterday was not a dream but reality. He got up cheerfully and stood up.After yawning to shake off his sluggishness, realizing his stomach was empty, he went in front of the hut to have breakfast, and as he was returning to the stable to start his chores, he noticed Kayn coming toward him from a distance. There was a very surprised expression on his face.Coming over to Eric, Kayn hugged him and said, "Thank you, and I'm sorry for everything, please forgive me, I said very bad things to you."Stepping back, Eric looked at Kayn and replied, "It doesn't matter, you're my friend after all."Actually, with these words, Kayn would trust Eric even more, and this would work to his advantage.Kayn still couldn't believe what had happened. Despite saying such bad things to him, Eric had st

Chapter 4Eric POVFergus was quite surprised by what he heard. Fulfilling this request wasn't a problem for him, but to become a hunter, one needed to be able to use life energy, and such individuals came from specific bloodlines. The probability of a commoner possessing such a talent was one in 100,000.Despite knowing this probability, Eric trusted his luck. Or rather, a gut feeling deep inside told him so. His instincts had never failed him up to this day. With a surprised expression, Fergus asked, "Are you sure about this? Is there anyone in either of your bloodlines capable of becoming a hunter?"Stepping in, Eric replied, "At least I want to try. If it doesn't work out, you can send my friend and me to another country, right?"Fergus found this idea smart; either way, the children would benefit, and he would come out ahead.Looking at Eric, Fergus said, "Alright, that works for me. Now go get some rest; I'll send you and your friend to the academy trials in 2 weeks."Hearing th

Eric POVHe was following the man who made his way through the silent darkness of the night, having no intention of turning him in just yet, merely curious to see what he would do. In Eric's view, the man was a thief with a plan to take advantage of the banquet to rob the house, so he continued to watch him. However, there was one thing he couldn't understand: why would a life energy user, moving like a shadow, engage in petty theft?According to what he had heard, individuals capable of using life energy became extremely powerful, and they were commonly known as hunters.Hunters were a large community that hunted monsters in the wild lands belonging to the Kingdom of Arkadia. When Eric looked ahead again, he saw the man climbing through a window. He was very excited, but at the same time, he rather enjoyed the feeling, imagining himself as a true hunter. For Eric, who lived a monotonous and boring life, even the simplest adventure felt like something wonderful. He pushed his thought

The soldiers behind him stopped running, drew the bows from their waists, nocked their arrows, pulled the bowstrings taut, and waited for the order. At the commander's order to "fire at will," arrows came whizzing through the air toward the man.The old man could now taste death in his throat as six arrows pierced his back simultaneously. He groaned in pain and collapsed to the ground. His journey had finally reached its end. Dying this way caused him deep agony; he had never experienced happiness throughout his life: his father was killed, his mother was forcefully taken and sold as a slave, and he had no brothers or sisters. Later, he got a new family, but his bad luck still refused to leave him. His first three children died of disease, while the last one was sold as a slave, leaving goodness knows what fate in store for him.
