Adrian walked out of the School Board of Judges' presence with his pride restored. Although he was unable to prove the terrible allegations as vile and false, he was able to give them something to think about.
He enjoyed watching their faces go blue, especially Donald McMahon, he nearly lost his balance in shock. Teresa looked as if she had seen a ghost, she could not speak another word till Adrian walked out in all calmness. Their eyes followed him all the way out and he could still feel their stares on his back as he left the premises for a closure to the day. "Hey!!" He heard rushed footsteps calling behind him. Turning around, Adrian was not suprised to see his ex girlfriend. Teresa stopped right in front of him, running out of breathe. "What did you do back there?" She managed to find her lungs again. "What? I just paid my bills like a man should. Is there anything I can do to help you?" Her eyes darkened in annoyance. It was as if he struck her ego unknowingly. Her brows curled in a frown. "I know you can't afford that sum of money. You have no money! Did you steal it?" "What? Are you gonna accuse me of theft now? I'm done here." He walked past her without caring. He was not going to stand there and take her insults all over again. "Wait..." She struggled to block his path again, stretching both arms of hers. "What now?" "Are you a secret rich kid?" Her lips parted fast as she glared him suspiciously. "What does that even mean?" "Rich kids who pretend to be poor so they can find true love? Is that what you did? You lied to me for three years?" She seemed to be scared right now, as if she was losing a treasure she had found. "Well, what can I say?" Adrian was ready to pull her strings further. "You seem to have failed the test woefully." "But I didn't know..." Her voice grew thinner. Back in front of the panel, she was all domineering. Now she sounded like a little child who wanted to gain sympathy. "I would have done better if I did. You can give me a second chance, you know... And then..." "And then what about Ricardo?" Adrian was disgusted at what I heard. How could she be so cheap? All these while, he thought he was dating a lady of class, he never knew she was so petty. No shame, no sense of honour. "Well, Ricardo spends on me. If you can spend more... I can help you out of this mess. I can even testify for you. You see, I love you more than I like him. I just thought you were broke..." At this point, he had no more reason to talk to her. He had seen so much of her that he never knew existed. She even dared to use his family background to make fun of him back in there, why would he ever trust her again? "Get out of my way." He said calmly, enjoying the control he was having right now. Every single word he said affected her. "But... Wait..." "Get out!" In shivers, Teresa flew away as Adrian came forward. As he walked away, he had a gentle smile on his lips. Even though he would be taking the long walk back home, he still had enough reason to be satisfied with himself today. He had no more money, everything had gone into the school's account but that shouldn't be a problem. All he needed to do was to complete more missions with the system, then he would make more money. He remembered that he also received ten character points alongside the one million dollar reward, wonder what those points were useful for. "Hey system, why did you not respond earlier?" "The system will not always be present with the host. There will be a random period everyday when the system would go offline. The host must learn not to completely depend on the system to get answers. The system will always be present during the course of a mission and give instructions except in particular instances. To establish permanent contact with the chosen heir system, the host must upgrade their level. At the God Status, the host will be in full control of the system. You are still an anchor, you have a long way to go." Was that so? Adrian couldn't wait to be a god then. He really needed to start completing new missions. "Tell me, what is my next mission?" "There are two kinds of mission, filler missions and special missions. Your last mission was a special mission. Now there are no special missions available, thus you will be assigned a filler mission." "And what is this filler mission?" "Face slapping. Your landlady and her son are waiting for you. They plan to chase you out today. Would you like to know a secret or a prediction about your landlady?" "A secret this time." Adrian chose to be told a prediction the night before. Of course he wanted a secret now. Afterall, he could not imagine the several many dark secrets the landlady would be keeping. The idea of blackmailing her did not seem so harsh. Afterall she had never been a good person to anyone. For three years, she had only increased the exorbitant price of her house, way above its true value. She loved money so much. With all the terrible things he had seen her do in the name of money, he couldn't wait to find out what the secret was. "Secret: Your landlady owes your family a huge sum of money. In 2004, she begged your father's personal assistant on her knees for a loan which she used to build her house. She never paid back." Adrian was stunned. His family? A loan? He didn't know much about his father, but he couldn't ever guess he used to have a personal assistant not to talk of the kind of riches the system was suggesting. "Are you saying I come from a rich family? My father was a billionaire?" Maybe Teresa was not so far from the truth afterall. "Your family's riches collapsed a long time ago. That is all I can reveal for now. Meanwhile, ask your landlady about the SILVER DROP loan. She will understand at once." In an instant, Adrian hurried his pace towards home. Walking past the pedestrians, he couldn't wait to ask Mrs Huddersfield about it. Soon he was standing right in front of Mrs Huddersfield's huge building. It was a huge mansion divided into many small flats for tenants, she lived alone in the biggest part of the house. She had always treated Adrian like dirt so to think that all of these came from his family's riches afterall.. was crazy. As much as Adrian didn't know anything about mother, he knew she abandoned him as a child and his foster mother picked him up. His father, however, he did not know anything about him. Maybe the answer was standing right in front of me all along. Mrs Huddersfield might know something, and he was eager to find out. As he placed a hand on the door knuckle, a beam played loudly in his head. "Alarm! Alarm!" A red screen appeared, danger was glaring. "Emergency! You have been assigned a new mission! A special mission! Prediction: Lyana Rodriguez will be murdered in the next five minutes! It is up to you to save her... Again!"Latest Chapter
Chapter Three Hundred Three
Lyu sat alone on a hard plastic bench near his departure gate, a single suitcase resting against his leg, watching the departure board flicker through its endless rotation of cities and times without truly seeing any of it. His mind had drifted backward, unwillingly, to the room he was in just a few hours ago.Melissa's voice still echoed in his ears, cold and satisfied, delivering her ultimatum with the same casual cruelty she had always worn like perfume. You will do exactly as I ask, or your daughter dies. It really is that simple, Lyu. That was the way she made her threat just after the call ended in her room. Lyana had been captured, and only Lyu could save her now. The only way to do that was to obey Melissa's instructions. She had wanted someone dead. She had refused to name the target outright, only informing him that the man he needed to kill was currently in London, and that further instructions would reach him the moment he landed. It had unsettled him more than he cared to
Chapter Three Hundred Two
Melissa Rodriguez sat before her mirror, watching her own reflection age backward in her mind until she saw not the face of a chairwoman but the face of the young lady who had once stood in the grand hall, seconds away from having everything she had ever wanted. It had been her son's birthday, all those years ago, a celebration dressed up in gold and champagne, though the true occasion had never truly been only about her son at all. It had been about the envelope Sebastian Waters carried to the center of the room that evening, the way he had smiled at her with such genuine, undeserved warmth as he drew out the contract from within it, the pen he had pressed into her waiting hand. The entirety of Waters Holdings and Corporation, transferred fully into her name. She remembered the weight of that pen in her fingers, remembered how close she had come, how the ink had very nearly touched paper before everything collapsed around her."Stop!"James Halton's voice had cut through the celebrat
Chapter Three Hundred One
James Halton lowered his voice. "He is your husband?""Yes." The answer came easily. "And he is your boss. I guess it is not so over after all" A faint smirk touched her lips. The contradiction seemed to amuse her. James shook his head slowly. "What do you mean by that? I don't understand.""You understand perfectly.""No." He stood firm as she stepped closer. "I don't."She remained perfectly composed. James Halton's s jaw tightened as it dawned upon him. "No!" He said. "I will not do it.""Well, you have no choice." She responded. "I already paid you half of the money, you have to do the job. We have a deal.""Our deal was over the moment you tried to kill me".The woman said nothing. His words seemed to hold no meaning to her. James Halton looked toward the door through which Sebastian Waters had disappeared."He just stood here telling me how you're going to inherit everything if he dies."Her expression remained unreadable. "And that's exactly why it is the ripe time for him to t
Chapter Three Hundred
The woman came toward the two men with an effortless grace, a smile resting naturally upon her lips as though the entire evening belonged to her.She extended her hand toward James Halton. James Halton only stared at it. For a moment, he did not move. Her hand remained suspended between them, delicate and perfectly manicured, waiting for his response."James," Sebastian Waters said cheerfully, completely unaware of the storm that had suddenly erupted behind the younger man's eyes. "Allow me to introduce you properly."Sebastian gestured toward the woman beside him."This is my wife."James Halton finally looked at her face and his heart seemed to stop."My wife," Sebastian repeated proudly. "And the mother of my son."The woman smiled. "I have heard a lot about you," she said.James Halton swallowed. Doubts tried to force their way in but he knew that she was the same woman. There was no mistake. It was the same voice, the same eyes. It was indeed that same person who had once sat acr

"Is there a problem, sir?" James Halton asked, stopping a respectful distance away. "I noticed you leave the party rather suddenly. Thought it best to make sure everything was in order." That had been the exact reason he had followed them anyway. Except that now he had found the situation a little bit of suspicious and mysterious, and now he was interested in reaching to the end of it.Sebastian Waters studied him for a moment, something almost approving flickering behind his tired eyes. "Good instincts. That's precisely the kind of attentiveness I hired you for." He said, although James Halton thought it was only to patronise him. From behind the closed door, a voice rose sharply, muffled by the heavy wood but unmistakably furious, a woman's voice pitched high with anger, the specific words lost entirely but the emotion behind them impossible to misread. James Halton's gaze flicked toward the sound before he could stop himself. Something was going on inside of that room, something he
