Chapter 3

Jason sat in the principal’s office with a swollen cheek. Ms. Amelia sat there staring at him without flinching as if she was trying to bore a hole in the middle of his forehead, making Jason squirm a bit in his seat. This had been going on for about 15 minutes till Ms. Amelia finally opened his mouth and asked.

“Why’d you do it?”

“What?”

“Why’d you attack Alexander like that?”

“Wait a minute I didn’t attack anyone, he attacked me.”

“Your classmates reported that you attacked Alex in the lunchroom because he was sitting and chatting with a girl that if I understand right you like and declared as yours”

“But that’s not true, he was the one who attacked me because _____”

“Silence, and please pray tell, why would a star student and athlete like Alexander randomly attack someone of your particular social standing in a crowded cafeteria?” Ms. Amelia interjected harshly. “Besides I do not need to hear anything from you since every one of the students on the table already testified about how you flew into a rage when you saw Alex and Jessica sitting on the table talking happily together, you immediately attacked him saying she belonged to you causing Alex to try and defend himself”.

“Jessica was there, you can ask her what happened and you’d find that Alex indeed attacked me instead”. Jason said

“In fact, Jessica confirmed Alex’s story,” Ms. Amelia said with a smirk on her face

“Did Jessica say that? Jason asked with a shocked face

“Yes, she even told us of how you’ve been harassing her”.

“That’s ________

“Enough you will let me finish speaking. Now, Jason, you know that we have a zero-tolerance policy for violence especially unprovoked such as in your case so before I make judgment on your case do you have anything to say for yourself”?

Jason sat there lost in thought about all that was happening, he couldn’t understand why Jessica would do that to him, he felt as if he was punched in the stomach and felt as if his whole world came crashing down. He could only mutter softly “I didn’t do anything wrong”

“Well, then shall we add lying to your growing list of crimes’ Ms. Amelia said in a slightly jubilant tone.

“Aren’t there cameras in the cafeteria” he suddenly said in a desperate tone

“This is a reputable and prestigious institution and as such, has a long-standing policy against the usage of cameras within the school mostly because our students are well behaved and not without class like some uncouth people I know”.  

Jason sat there, head lowered under the gaze of Ms. Amelia. He felt so frustrated since Alex was using his money and influence to walk all over him.

‘Why let this happen to you,  a voice whispered in his ear but the look on Ms. Amelia’s face as she kept on reprimanding him for his crime meant only he can hear the voice.

“We called your father and he pleaded on your behalf saying that you would be well disciplined when you got home.

‘The teachers overlooked the truth and turn a blind eye to what happened because Alex is wealthy, Jessica betrayed you for Alex. Just think, why would Jessica befriend you in the first place, they are probably laughing at such an elaborate plan they cooked up just to ruin your life. Probably joking about how much of a fool you are to fall for it thinking a girl like her would be interested in someone like you, you are all alone with no one to help you no friends when you need them if you can even call them that, I mean where’s George when you need him, your dad too I mean clearly his clients are more important to him than you his son, he condemns you without even hearing your side of the story’. And as the voice continued Jason felt an immense rage building up in him as he clenched his fist, at that moment Ms. Amelia looked at him and said

“The board has decided to suspend you for a month but don’t worry your homework will be mailed to you during this period before being allowed back into the school you must formally apologize to Alex in front of the entire student body to set an example to the rest.” Ms. Amelia said finally.

And as Jason’s anger reached its peak the voice said for the last time

‘Are you going to take this s***t or stand up for yourself.

That’s when all the anger that Jason had been feeling disappeared and was replaced with an immense calm that air around him changed and the surrounding felt so cold that Ms. Amelia shivered. Then as Jason slowly raised his head and looked Ms. Amelia in the eye with his green eyes, he felt a certain chill behind them that made him feel as if everything was suddenly so much clearer but if one looked closely they’d see that those green irises were glowing slightly, but to Ms. Amelia those eyes made her skin crawl. It was as if she was prey before a predator, and just as Jason opened his mouth to speak, her heart was hammering as he said in a voice that was no more than a whisper, but to Ms. Amelia, it was as if the grim reaper was passing judgment.
