CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY
People were scattering in tears and fear, some moved back enough and started to whisperer amongst themselves, none of them daring to go close to the room. Nobody wanted to be near him. Devin Stone had turned into a storm. And then Viktor walked into the room, unperturbed by the place which felt like it was about to come crashing down.. He turned back and looked at the faces of those trembling nurses, and the bloody knuckles of a security guard leaning against the wall, not to mention the ones who were crawling away, and the cracked windows. He frowned, good thing Devin was only letting out a tiny fraction of his power. Not to mention that he didn’t need anyone to tell him what had happened. The air reeked of grief and sadness, and it was Devin’s. He stopped at the door, which was hanging on its hinges. Inside, Devin was still by the bed, and he was cradling Kia’s body sadly like she’d just fallen asleep. His eyes were blank, and his face was wet with tears and full of agony. Vik
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AHD FIFTY NINE
Devin brought the necklace out of his coat and then he held it tightly as he entered into the broker's home. The place smelled like burnt sage, with candles here and there, and weird looking shadows on the walls. The broker looked up from a book he was reading. He was dressed in a dark green robe with red stitching and his eyes that looked like they'd seen centuries of pain and pleasure. Without a word, Devin dropped the necklace on the table in front of him. The broker stared at it, then slowly looked up in disbelief. "Wow." He said. "You really got it." Devin didn't bother with a reply. The broker picked up the necklace gently, holding it up and beaming. "This is just a miracle. How... you killed for this, didn't you?" "I earned it." Devin said. "But would it have mattered if I did?" "No, if would be the same thing." The broker smiled. "Either way, you paid the price and got me what I needed." "I held up my end." Devin said, moving closer to him. "Now it's
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY EIGHT
Devin didn’t care about what nonsense they warlock was spewing at him here. He didn’t care about what he did or did not do, he was going to get what he came here for. Jareth’s eyes twinkled as he watched Devin carefully, like he was studying a rare creature. The man before him was quite intriguing, and he felt powerful. But Jareth felt he could take him on if it came to it, defeat him even. “I need the necklace.” Devin said simply. Jareth leaned back against the leather armchair behind him with an amused smile playing on his lips. “Everyone needs something, Mr Stone. That’s not how transactions begin.” Devin folded his arms, trying to hold back his irritation. “Alright then. How much?” Jareth started to laugh mine Devin had told him the funniest thing ever. “Y-you want to buy it? You will go bankrupt and have your soul in debt for the rest of eternity if I give you a price.” He wiped off a tear. Devin shrugged slightly. “Money, power, land, whatever you want. N
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN
Amanda sat down on the bed, taking her drink slowly as the warlord, Jareth Alatar, walked out of the bathroom shirtless with a towel hanging low on his hips. His necklace gleamed as he walked out and it was quite obvious that it was not made for decoration. Amanda tried not to stare at it too long. “You’re nervous.” Jareth said casually, walking over to the side of the bed where he placed a tiny black case. He opened it, revealing small silver instruments, scalpels, stones, all things that Amanda didn’t even want to try bothering to name. “Should I be?” She asked, flashing him a smile. “That depends. Do you like pain, dear?” “Only the good kind.” She replied. Jareth grinned, walking back to her and sitting down beside her with the slow confidence of a man who had never rushed for anything in his life. Amanda tried to hide her discomfort, seeing that something about him just didn’t sit right. He looked like he could kill someone with his eyes, but she had come too far to
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX
Amanda had never felt this invisible in her entire life. She was sitting quietly of Viktor’s living room, munching on some food and scrolling through her cracked phone. Viktor had barely spoken to her in two days, let alone offer to get her a new device. No good mornings, no how are yous, and not even his usual smartass comments he would say when they discussed before all of… this happened. He barely looked even at her. The silence wasn’t peaceful, it was suffocating. She dropped the fork and crossed her arms, glaring at the back of his head. He was sitting by the window, reading a thick old book like she didn’t even exist. “You’re ignoring me, aren’t you?” She asked. Viktor didn’t even act like he was being spoken to. “So we’re doing this now?” Amanda snapped. “I’m just some bug you’re waiting to squash?” “No.” Viktor said without looking up. “Bugs at least make noise. You’ve been sulking like a rejected puppy.” Amanda’s jaw clenched. She got up and walked over, standi
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FIVE
Devin was sitting in a boardroom of thirty people, but it might as well have been just him. The way they looked at him said everything. They felt respect, fear, envy just by looking at him. Some of them pretended to be calm, and others just sweated through their suits like pigs in a cage. The air conditioning didn’t help them much. Devin leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled together while his lawyer finished reading the last clause of the contract. "...and that would finalise the share transfer to Mr Stone.” The lawyer said, looking at Devin. “What do you think sir?” “What I think is that it’s unfair that he gets such a large percentage, and we get much less.” Avery Stein said, looking directly at Devin. She was a powerful woman, not as powerful as he was, but she had influence, and she wasn’t afraid to speak. Devin let the head of Forstman speak instead. “That’s because you are to earn your rankings. His share values are so much bigger because his name alone p
