Devin sat in his study, unable to keep his mind from going haywire as thoughts presented themselves one after the other.

The mansion was still and quiet, like the calm after a storm, as it had almost been a week since the unfortunate incident with Viper, and everything had been restored to its original form.

Thing was, with everything going on, he couldn’t find it in him to rest. Something much bigger was at play here, he knew it.

His phone started to ring on the table, and he peeked at the caller ID.

Petra Knight.

Sighing, he picked the call.

"Petra.” He said, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Please tell me you have something, anything.”

“Oh, darling.” Her sultry voice flowed through the phone like honey. “You missed me, didn't you?"

Devin wasn’t moved.

"I asked for answers, not attitude."

"Well, it’s a combination you get to enjoy." He could hear her sipping something on the other end. "But I'll give you what you want first. Then we can talk about your undying lov

The restaurant was nice and pretty, the music was good, and the air smelled really delicious. It as the perfect place to eat, Devin thought. He pulled out a chair for Petra, who smiled and sat down, brushing her curls off her shoulder. “This place is… nice.” She said, looking around. “It’s the only place I could think of that didn’t reek of bad memories.” Devin muttered as he took his seat. “Everything else reminds me of her.” Petra nodded slowly. She didn’t speak right away. Instead, she watched him for a while, watched the way his fingers tapped the table, the way his eyes kept looking anywhere but at her. “You didn’t have to take me out, you know.” She said finally. “I get that you’ve been through more than a rough patch.” “I wanted to, actually.” Devin replied. “You’ve been there for me after everything. I figured I could at least do something decent.” Petra smiled shyly. “Fine. Decent is good.” A waiter came by, took their orders, and poured wine into their

They heard the front door open loudly, and Viktor immediately turned to the sound before looking at Amanda above him. “I didn’t know that you were expecting a visitor.” She shrugged. “I didn’t know that you’d be here until you came either.” Devin walked in first, flanked by two of his trusted men, their black coats soaked from the drizzle outside. Amanda jumped from the couch where she had been sitting beside Viktor. Her heart pounded as she saw the look in Devin's eyes, and it was pure bloody murder. Viktor, still shirtless and half-bandaged, looked af her in confusion. “What the fuck—?" "Don't move.” Devin said coldly, lifting a hand. "I'll tear your fucking head off if you even dare to.” Viktor's face went white. His eyes darted to Amanda, and he found out that she had betrayed him. "You..." He growled. "You fucking—" "Shut up, Viktor!” Amanda snapped, standing between the men and the couch. "You used me, you lied to me, and then you touched me with the sam

Amanda opened the door to her house, wearing only an oversized T-shirt. Someone had been knocking, waking her up from her nap, and she hoped it was something good, else, she’d be pissed. Her brows lifted when she saw who stood outside. “Holy shit!” She gasped. Viktor looked like he had been dragged through hell and barely made it back. His face was swollen on the left side, his lip was cracked, and there was dried blood crusted on the side of his head. “Amanda…” He rasped, barely able to get her name out alone. She blinked at him for a second, then stepped aside slowly. “Get in.” Viktor limped past her, groaning as he lowered himself onto the couch. “What in the world happened to you?” She asked, already walking off to get her first aid kit. “Devin happened to me.” Viktor mumbled. Amanda paused mid-step and turned around. “Devin did this to you? Aren’t you guys buddied up or something?” He sighed, or let out what was supposed to be a sigh. “Damn.” She mutt

There was a knock at the door. Devin stood at the window of his study, looking at the trees outside but seeing nothing. He wanted to throw things at the walls and he wanted to see Viktor and tear him apart. He needed an outlet for all the anger that he was feeling. He had barely slept. His shirt was half-buttoned, his hair was a mess, but Devin didn’t give a shit about any of that. The person at the door knocked again, louder this time. Devin didn’t bother to move, he already knew who was behind that door. The door opened, and Viktor strolled in with a smug smile plastered on his face like the shit-eating bastard he was. He was dressed in a nice jacket, a dark one with silver buttons. He had his hands in his pockets, smiling like this was a social call. “Devin.” He said smoothly. “You look like hell. I’ve been knocking for a while now.” Devin didn’t respond to him. He didn’t even act like he had heard anything from him. “I figured you’d need some space.” Viktor went on. “

Devin heard a knock on the door. He didn’t look up immediately. He sat on the edge of the large armchair in his private study, his shoulders heavy, and his eyes bloodshot from grief and exhaustion. He tried to keep the fact that he was still broken a secret from everyone else, but had been solitary confined to his room and study. He had had long days of silence and whiskey, and the last person he expected or wanted to see was anyone that wasn’t Kia. He heard another knock. He sighed, irritated. He had explicitly said that he didn’t want to be disturbed. Whatever it was better be damn important. He rubbed his face with his palms, and finally grumbled. “It’s open.” The door opened, and Petra Knight entered inside, dressed in a long, black coat, her hair tucked into a sleek bun. She looked beautiful, but her eyes bore sadness for him. “Petra.” Devin said, surprised. He rose to his feet and shook her hand. “I wasn’t sure if I should come.” She said. “But I had to. I neede

Viktor stood by the window in his home, staring at nothing. Outside, the rain was drizzling, and the place still had the whole feeling of grief and death. He didn’t know how to feel ever since Kia died. And it wasn’t entirely because he felt guilty, but because he felt that something was wrong. He couldn’t just quite put his finger on it. Sighing, he turned around and started to pour himself a glass of scotch. His hands shook slightly as he brought the drink to his lips. He felt a presence and looked around. Everything seemed normal enough. “Must have been my head, then.” That was when the lights started to flicker, causing him to stop drinking. "Fuck!” Viktor muttered, setting the glass down. A huge blast of cold wind blew around the place, even though all the windows were shut. And as the lights flickered, the shadows in the corner started to twist, bend and stretch, moving unnaturally. Viktor clenched his jaw in annoyance. "Fancy showing up now.” He said to nothing.
