Chapter 34

The man in the suit sighed. "But even so, can he just quit like that?" While Westcrest is currently stable, the borders of the territory are still under threat, and there are many places where he's needed! Moreover, he built the Shadowstorm Legion himself, and Phoenix, Titan, Shadow, and Python—those four only obey him. No one else could lead them if he resigns."

"You only know he resigned without notice, but have you ever thought about why he did that?" the man in military attire continued.

"What do you mean? Didn't you say he quit because he was upset?" the man in the suit responded irritably.

"That's why I'm saying you've never truly cared about him!" The man in military attire glared at the man in the suit. "He fought bloodily in enemy territory for our country, but his own daughter was kidnapped by some scumbags he was supposed to be guarding against, and they wanted to take her for a heart transplant for another child! Tell me, if it were you, what would you do!?"

"What!?" Upon hearing his words, everyone present exclaimed in unison.

The man in military attire slammed his hand forcefully on the conference table, then stood up, surrounded by a murderous chill, and roared, "What a mess, who did it? You tell me, I'll fucking kill his whole family!"

"Alright, mind your status. Here's the deal! You'll talk to him, don't approve his resignation, allow him to take a three-month leave to spend more time with his family, and report back to the capital after three months! Also, during his leave, he'll be fully responsible for all matters concerning the Darkmoon Legion. If there are any problems, he'll be held accountable! Meeting adjourned!" After speaking, the man in the suit got up and left his seat, then turned to the man in military attire at the door. "Come with me!"

One minute later, the two men arrived in the corridor.

"I know you care a lot about Junior!" the man in the suit said as they walked. "But he still needs to toughen up. After all, this country is counting on him to shoulder greater responsibilities in the future! If he can't handle such a small matter, what's the point of talking about the future?"

"I just can't stand the way some people are doing things!" the man in military attire responded coldly.

"Alright! Stop bickering with them!" the man in the suit continued. "By the way, isn't Joziah Olsen currently in charge of the work in the Eastern Region?"

"Yeah!" the man in military attire nodded. "Since Dax Montgomery's incident, the position of the Eastern King has been vacant, temporarily managed by Joziah Olsen as the deputy!"

"Give Junior a call and ask him to find time to visit Joziah Olsen. If there's anything he needs, let him cooperate fully!" the man in the suit continued. "From what I understand, there are some troublemakers from overseas who have sneaked into the country in recent days. If my guess is correct, their target should be Eastoria. It's said that they're very powerful, and Joziah Olsen's current manpower might be a bit lacking!"

The man in military attire glared at him. "Who exactly are they? What are they doing in Eastoria?"

"I haven't found out the specific details about them, but I can be sure they're from the overseas underworld!" the man in the suit replied.

Meanwhile, in Eastoria.

Junior drove to Rosemary's house with Laurel in tow, and after playing with her for a while, he heard shouting downstairs. "Aunt Sylvie! Are you home? Come down!"

"Huh?" Sylvie raised an eyebrow and turned to Junior. "What trouble have you gotten into now?"

Junior was speechless, but he followed her downstairs.

When they arrived at the neighborhood park, they found a large crowd gathered on the open ground, each face beaming with joy.

"Sylvie, thank you, thank you all!" Upon seeing the Wallace family, everyone knelt down simultaneously.

"Mrs. Johnson, what are you doing? Please get up!" Sylvie hurriedly helped the old lady in front of her to her feet, then looked at the others and asked loudly, "Everyone, please get up. What's going on? What happened?"

"Sylvie, don't play dumb. You all helped us a lot, and we really don't know how to thank you!" Mrs. Johnson said tearfully after getting up.

"Mrs. Johnson, can you tell me what happened?" Sylvie continued to ask.

"Sylvie, representatives from the Meritage Homes Corporation came to us early this morning," a middle-aged woman spoke up. "Not only did they reimburse us for the price difference, but they also gave us an additional fifty thousand as compensation for mental anguish!" Mrs. Johnson said.

"What!?" Sylvie exclaimed, equally shocked as Wallace and Rosemary.

The four of them couldn't help but look at Junior. They all remembered clearly that Junior had said yesterday he would handle this matter with the help of a friend. Could it really be him!?

Junior caught their glances but pretended not to notice, squatting down to play with Laurel.

"Mrs. Johnson, how did you know it was us?" Wallace asked.

"Wallace, the developers said they did this entirely out of respect for your family and asked us to thank you," a middle-aged man replied.

"Wallace, Sylvie, we're really grateful to you. With this money, we'll never be homeless again," an elderly man looked at them gratefully.

"You're welcome, Mr. Sherman. We're just neighbors, and it's the least we could do," Wallace replied after taking a deep breath.

"For you, it's just a small favor, but for us, it's our lives!" the elderly man said, tears streaming down his face.

Many of the elderly people in this neighborhood were struggling financially, and some were even childless couples. They thought they would have to sleep on the streets from now on, but the sudden turn of events filled them with joy.

"Sylvie, this is a token of appreciation from all the neighbors. Please accept it," a middle-aged man handed Sylvie a woven bag.

"What is this?" Sylvie took the bag and looked inside.

Hiss!

She gasped immediately; the bag was full of bundles of cash, estimated to be at least a hundred thousand.

"I can't accept this," Sylvie said with a hint of hesitation in her eyes as she handed the bag back.

"Sylvie, this is a token of appreciation from each household. You must take it," Mrs. Johnson said.

"Thank you all for your kindness. We appreciate your gesture!" Wallace looked at the bag and shouted, "But we absolutely cannot accept this money. Please take it back!"

"Wallace, Sylvie, you should just accept it!" Mr. Sherman also spoke up.

In fact, for the current Wallace couple, the money was undoubtedly very tempting. Subconsciously, they did want to accept it. One hundred thousand would cover their family's expenses for two years. However, after struggling in their hearts for a while, they resisted the temptation.

Junior, on the side, flashed a hint of approval in his eyes upon hearing Wallace and Sylvie's words. Seeing that the Wallace couple really didn't want to accept the money, the neighbors didn't insist further and left after expressing their gratitude once again.

Fifteen minutes later, the family returned to the house.

"Junior, did you do this?" As soon as they stepped into the house, Harley looked at Junior and asked, "Do you really know such powerful people?"

"No!" Junior shook his head. "The friend I know is just an ordinary clerk in the real estate department."

"Do you think I'm a child? Can an ordinary clerk make the developers bleed like this?" Harley pouted.

"Well, I don't know. I just asked that friend to mention to the developers not to escalate the situation," Junior added after a pause. "Maybe the developers had a change of heart on their own!"

"Which developer do you know has such a good conscience? Not only did they reimburse the price difference, but they also gave an extra fifty thousand?" Harley clearly didn't believe Junior's words.

"Well... I'm not sure about that," Junior shrugged. "Anyway, let's not dwell on it. Whatever the reason, it's a good thing, isn't it?"

"But..." Harley started to speak again.

Bang! Bang! Bang! At that moment, there was a knock on the door.

"Is it you again? What do you want now?" Harley opened the door and immediately saw the bald man from yesterday, her expression tense.
