Breakout At The Zoo

After the lecture, Orion woke up with drool all over his face and the students were walking out while laughing.

"Good thing I put on a disposable mask or I'll be on the headlines tomorrow" he thought while pulling up his hood and looking around for Jerry.

After searching around for a while without finding him he dialed his number.

"Jerry where are you?"

"I'm in school right now, just left the lecture hall"

"I came to find you, where are you right now?" Orion asked.

"You're in school?? That's rare, I just left the hall wait for me at the entrance I'll be over there soon." He replied then cut the call.

Orion left the lecture hall and walked to the entrance waiting for Jerry.

"I didn't expect to see you today" Jerry said with a smile.

"What can I say, you lost your job I have to give you a kick back to shape." Orion replied.

"No I'm actually fine now, found another job at Frosters hotel yesterday, it pays more than Lucien's restaurant a pretty good trade if you ask me" Jerry replied with a smile on his face.

"Regardless, I sent a little cash to you, manage that for now I also got a job recently" Orion said.

"A job? No one would take you in with that scar of yours or you'll be wearing that all the time?" Jerry said.

It sounded harsh but it was actually the truth and Jerry was saying it point blank just because he cared.

"Don't worry about that, I'll be leaving now check what I sent, see you around." Orion said then rushed off.

"Hey!! We have exams by Friday don't forget!" Jerry screamed.

"Okay okay" Orion replied already planning to rig his way in the exam.

After leaving the hall, Orion walked to the bus stop slowly when he suddenly heard a sharp scream.

"Ahhhhhhh!”

He watches the direction the scream came from to see a huge lion standing 1.5 meters tall biting into a girls arm while she screamed out in agony.

"A lion???"

"Why is there a lion here?"

"Why is it so tall?"

A lot of bystanders initially froze then the lion tore apart the girls arm and bit into her head making some light heart hearted bystanders faint on the spot while the rest all ran for their lives.

Orion remained frozen on the spot. "We are far away from the forest, no sea nearby just living out daily lives how did a lion get here and a mutant one at that"

"No, I need to deal with it before things get worse." He muttered to himself then pulled up his hood and wanted to draw it's attention and lure it to a deserted spot where he could deal with it when another scream suddenly rang out cutting through the air from another direction and another.

He looked all around him to find the university in a state of turmoil.

"Where are they coming from?? Did they Invade all the way from there?" He thought confused about what to do or where to go.

"The only place they could bypass so many defences and securities to get here would be the zoo, I'll just kill those I can find." He said then decided to stop wasting time when he suddenly screamed

"Jerry!!"

Thirty minutes earlier

The zoo was initially buzzling but after the man dropped the news and left the workers burst into chatters.

"What's going on? Why would the government suddenly close the zoo?" One of them asked.

"I don't care about that but I care about what will happen to us now. What are we going to do?" A man asked.

"I have a family to feed as this can't be real!"

While the workers were chatting and bantering one of the female workers walked over to the end of the zoo where a lion was chained down at with electricity passing through it's body occasionally.

"Sunny you've suffered for long and now you're about to die." She said patting the lion.

"I raised you from when you were born and now you're about to die and I can't do anything about it I'm sorry sunny" she said with tears on her face while hugging the lion close and brushing it's fur.

The lion remained unmoving and didn't do anything to her while she did as she pleased.

She looked into it's eyes and said "I know this seems selfish of me but I'll grant you just one last wish, the freedom you always wanted" she said then removed a key from her chest pocket and unlocked the lock on it's neck.

Aeric and the other two were walking along the road when Aeric suddenly stopped and looked in the direction of the university "I told you we'll find something interesting didn't I?"

"What's going on?" Damion asked with a confused look on his face.

"Nothing much, just a bunch of rifrafs in the town but I think we'll find our friend there" he said with a smile then hailed a cab.

"Luminaries University!"

"Twenty dollars"

"I'll make it two hundred if you can get there in ten minutes" Aeric replied.

The drivers eyes shined and said "alright I'm the best you can get around here I assure you, hop in" he said then opened the door for the three of them.

"I hope they survive before we get there" Aeric said.

"Survive?" Damion asked.

"There's an outbreak at the university, looks like the animals in the zoo are on a rampage"

Damion's eyes suddenly widened "The students!"

"Let's hope they can hold on till we get there or the death count will be too much to cover up"
