Neva reached out and helped Joanne to her feet.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“I’m fine,” Joanne replied.

“Thank goodness.” Neva smiled.

“You looked so brave. Weren’t you scared of that goose earlier? What if it had pecked you?”

“I was scared, actually. But I fought through my fear to save you. I couldn’t let my best friend be in danger, so I attacked the goose and overcame my fear.”

Neva smiled at her. Joanne stared, mesmerized by the innocent face of the beautiful girl her age.

“If you were in my place, I’m sure you would’ve done the same, right?”

Joanne smiled and nodded gently.

Her eyes snapped open. That memory instantly reignited her courage. Her fists clenched tightly. Her gaze locked onto the undead creature charging toward her—most of them were being handled by Jackson and Smith.

“I’ll do what Neva did. I’ll fight my fear and save my friend. I’ll win and break free from this!” Joanne whispered.

“ROARR!!”

More zombies surged toward her. Joanne sprang into action, throwing punches with fierce determination. She kicked to the left, punched to the right, and delivered a powerful blow straight ahead—knocking the zombie down instantly.

Jackson and Smith were stunned. Their jaws dropped as they watched Joanne fight with strength far beyond their expectations. She had already taken down nearly half of the remaining zombies.

“KYAAA!!!”

Joanne screamed, her energy overflowing. Her breath came in gasps from the relentless fighting. Jackson and Smith stood frozen, watching her.

“I won’t lose! I have to save my friend and escape this place! No matter what I face—I’ll fight to win!” she shouted.

“A-amazing… she’s stronger than I thought,” Jackson muttered, barely blinking.

Joanne refocused, scanning the area. Something felt off. The zombies weren’t decreasing—they were multiplying. She stepped back instinctively.

“Don’t let your guard down! They’re increasing!” Smith warned.

Jackson snapped back to attention. They were being cornered. The number of zombies had doubled.

“At this rate, we’ll never get out of here,” Jackson muttered, backing up until his shoulders bumped into Joanne and Smith.

“There has to be a way out. We just haven’t found it yet,” Smith said calmly. He had been composed from the start—and somehow, he still was.

“Then where is it? Where’s the exit?” Joanne spun around, searching. All she saw was darkness—and a horde of zombies closing in.

Jackson tried to think. Suddenly, something caught his eye—a glowing interface appeared before him, with a message icon at its center.

“Am I hallucinating… or do you see this too?” he asked.

“You mean the game-like screen in front of me?” Joanne replied.

“So you see it too?” Smith added.

“What now?” Jackson muttered.

“Looks like… a message,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a quiet room filled with antique heirlooms, Davian Randolph—the middle-aged man Jackson had met—stood staring at a painting above the fireplace.

“They must be awake by now. I’m sure they’ve already encountered the first wave of enemies. An endless sea of zombies. Right now… Haven is probably busy dealing with Winter and Alvin, who’ve gone too far,” he murmured.

“I hope they receive the message I sent,” he said, then turned and left the room.

Back in the chaos, Jackson, Smith, and Joanne touched the screen in front of them simultaneously. Instantly, the display shifted—revealing a message from Davian.

`

Jackson groaned in frustration.

“That old man is wasting our time. We’re in the middle of a crisis, and he wants me to choose?” he grumbled.

Without hesitation, Joanne tapped the first option and began reading.

The rules are simple.

Remember these things if you want to escape:

4. Only one person will win. But if that person completes the game, everyone will be freed—including your loved ones. Everything will return to normal.

*There’s a special reward for you.

Joanne tapped the button labeled “Special Reward.” A new screen appeared, displaying an image of a pair of glasses called Owl Glasses.

Joanne tapped the button. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she suddenly felt the item materialize in her hands.

She pulled the glasses out and stared at them for a moment before putting them on.

Her vision shifted instantly. The world around her changed.

She turned, scanning the room—searching for something invisible to the others.

“I see it!” Joanne shouted, her voice filled with excitement.

Smith slowly opened his eyes, his head pounding. He lifted it slightly.“You’re awake?” Jackson muttered, immediately drawing Smith’s attention. Jackson was lying directly beneath him, far too close for comfort. Smith’s eyes widened in shock, and he instantly leapt back from Jackson.“W-what were you doing under me?” he stammered, staring at Jackson in horror. Jackson sat up from the ground, looking weary.“Don’t get the wrong idea—it was all because of you,” Joanne cut in, walking over and crouching beside them.“What do you mean?” Smith asked in confusion. Joanne grabbed his arm, pulling back the torn sleeve of his shirt to reveal the clear zombie bite on his flesh.“This. You were infected by a zombie’s bite,” she said firmly.“You… you knew?” Smith’s face twisted in shock. “Wait—does that mean…”“You turned into a zombie and attacked us,” Jackson replied. “Your body was impossible to restrain. You were far stronger than me—I could barely hold you down. Just staying conscious was a

  • Level 13 – Diamond Infection

Jackson was dragged, struggling to restrain the dagger as he gripped it tightly, but the weapon fought back harder against his grasp.“Stay still!” Jackson shouted in frustration. The dagger slipped free from his grip and soared high into the air. Jackson and Joanne could only stare upward in silence as it floated around the cave.“Damn it! That dagger is completely uncontrollable,” Jackson muttered angrily.“Do something!”“How?!” Jackson shot back, glaring at Joanne, who seemed to only bark orders without lifting a finger.“Chase it down and catch it! That dagger is the only way we can escape.”“Ah… if only Smith were awake and using his sword to help us. Instead, he’s passed out and completely useless. And on top of that, where’s his sword?” Jackson scanned the cave for Smith’s weapon, but it was nowhere to be found.“There’s no time left, hurry!” Joanne yelled.“Fine, I’ll get it!” Jackson sprinted after the dagger, finally managing to seize it. He calmed it down by stroking it ge

  • Level 12 – The Spider’s Core

“How can I defeat it and free Smith and Joanne?” Jackson’s body felt extremely weak, his energy completely drained. The giant spider’s power was far greater than the worms they had fought outside. It had already consumed most of Jackson’s energy—even though he had just replenished it.Jackson raised his bow and aimed it directly at the giant spider, firing multiple arrows in rapid succession. The spider’s attention shifted toward him, abandoning Joanne for the moment. It began moving slowly in Jackson’s direction.Jackson kept firing. “I need to think fast if I want to beat this thing,” he thought, trying to stay calm as he continued aiming. The creature drew closer. Jackson ran to the side—dodging was all he could do now to conserve what little energy he had left.He kept firing while running. The spider began launching webs at him. Jackson ducked to avoid them, causing the shots to miss.“Damn it! I need to hurry.” Jackson kept running, searching for a safe spot. But there was none.

  • Level 11 – Web of Terror

“Stay behind me,” Smith said to Joanne, who was frozen in fear. The three of them turned around, trying to locate the creature lurking inside the cave. But they saw nothing.“Maybe it was just our imagination,” Jackson said, beginning to relax.“Really? But I swear something was hiding in the darkness. Think about it—why did Smith’s torch suddenly go out?” Joanne asked, still uneasy.“There’s nothing here,” Jackson replied.Suddenly, the cave plunged into darkness. All three turned at once—and froze in shock. A massive six-legged creature stood at the exit, busy weaving its web.“A-a giant spider…” Joanne’s eyes widened. Other than geese, spiders were her worst fear. She hated them ever since a traumatic childhood experience.“It’s sealing off our exit!” Smith exclaimed, realizing what was happening.Jackson didn’t hesitate. He drew his bow and fired a flaming arrow at the spider. The creature turned, enraged, as the arrow struck its body.“O-oh no, it looks angry,” Joanne said, her f

  • Level 10 – Into the Cave of Shadows

“Are you okay?” Joanne asked as she reached him. “My energy is almost gone. If it runs out, I’ll die here and won’t be able to continue the fight. But I can’t die now—I still have to win so I can save Charis.” Jackson sat on the ground, exhausted. Joanne remained silent while Smith continued battling the worm. Joanne looked at Jackson, understanding what he was feeling. Even though they were competing to win, she couldn’t bear to let him die—especially before he reunited with the one he loved. She quickly searched her system screen, looking for something that could restore Jackson’s energy. “Thank goodness, there’s an energy pill in the medical kit I received.” She grabbed it. The bottle in her hand now held the very pills Jackson needed to survive. “These pills are extremely limited. I can’t give you too many. There are only five, and according to the description, just one pill can fully restore your energy.” “Alright, that’s fine. Just give me one,” Jackson said, eyes full of

  • Level 9 – Infection

“That’s not a mole,” Smith muttered. Joanne and Jackson turned to him simultaneously. “Then what—” Joanne’s eyes widened as a massive creature burst from the ground, writhing with its gaping mouth wide open. “ROARRR!!!” The monster lunged toward them. Jackson, Joanne, and Smith jumped aside, narrowly avoiding its attack. “Ahh—” Joanne winced as her body scraped roughly against the ground. “Is that the giant worm we were warned about?” Jackson whispered, eyes locked on the monstrous creature slithering toward them. “That’s definitely it,” Smith said, rising to his feet and gripping his sword tightly. He charged toward the worm. “ROARRR!!!” The worm retaliated, lunging at Smith. He dodged, leaping from one side to the other. “We can’t just stand here,” Joanne said, pushing herself up. “You’re right.” Jackson raised his bow and aimed a flaming arrow at the worm attacking Smith. He fired repeatedly, but the creature’s skin was too tough—it barely flinched. “What should I do?
