The Alligator-Armored Tiger’s lair sat on a patch of relatively dry high ground, with a small pond right in the middle—pretty weird setup.
Just like James had said, next to that pond was the entrance to a deep underground cave.
In the twilight swamp, the cave glowed with a faint, eerie light. It stood out like a neon sign in the gloom.
Cole crouched in a nearby bush, watching carefully.
The massive beast lay sprawled across the entrance, its scaly body rising and falling with each breath. Every now and then its tail whipped out like a steel cable, snapping the surrounding shrubs clean in half.
“Stick to the plan—go!”
Cole took a deep breath and gave the order.
Swoosh!
The Sonic Bat struck first. It glided silently above the tiger’s head and unleashed a piercing ultrasonic scream.
Skill: Sonic Shock!
The half-asleep Alligator-Armored Tiger stiffened instantly, letting out a furious, pained roar. Its cold vertical pupils went blurry for a split second—dazed.
Now!
“Glowbug, keep it distracted! Firefinch, full-power fire blast!”
Cole barked.
Glowbug turned into a silver streak, buzzing around the tiger’s head at blinding speed, its tail flashing like a strobe light—annoying the hell out of it, making it impossible to lock onto anything.
At the same time, the Firefinch let out a sharp cry, flapped its wings hard, and spat a roaring torrent of flame straight at the tiger’s face!
Sizzle!
The stench of scorched fur instantly filled the air.
The burning pain sent the Alligator-Armored Tiger into a complete rage!
It reared up on its hind legs, roaring loud enough to shake the earth, and slammed its flaming head into the bushes trying to put the fire out.
That was the exact moment the Mantis Reaper had been waiting for.
Clang!
A green blur shot forward like a phantom.
The Mantis Reaper’s Extreme Shadow Slash struck true—its scythe-like forelimbs flashing once and carving deep into the tiger’s flank.
Rip!
A sickening tear of flesh and a spray of hot blood followed.
“ROAR!”
The Alligator-Armored Tiger howled in agony and swung a massive paw down at the Mantis Reaper with terrifying force—enough to turn solid iron into powder.
If that hit, the Mantis Reaper would be instant paste.
But—
BAM!
At the critical moment, Steelback Turtle leaped in front and tanked the blow head-on.
It was also Tier 2. Even though its level was lower, its defense was absurd.
The turtle got smashed deep into the mud, but there was only a faint white scratch on its shell.
The Alligator-Armored Tiger grew even more furious. It swept its thick tail in a wide arc, forcing the Mantis Reaper back and kicking up a cloud of dust.
Then it opened its jaws wide. Terrifying water energy rapidly condensed into a massive high-pressure water orb aimed straight at the Firefinch—the one that had hurt it the most.
“My turn.”
Cole’s eyes narrowed. He exploded off the ground, leaving a crater behind as he shot forward like an arrow.
In this fight against the Alligator-Armored Tiger, the real MVP was Cole himself.
He gripped a beast-bone dagger in one hand and unleashed his own Extreme Shadow Slash.
Wind energy surged. The blade lit up with blinding cyan light.
Like lightning, he stabbed straight for the tiger’s lower jaw!
The tiger was forced to redirect its water orb toward Cole instead.
Extreme Shadow Slash met the water orb in mid-air—BOOM!
The explosion was deafening.
Cole, at Tier 2 Level 15, using Extreme Shadow Slash, was actually trading blows evenly with a beast five levels higher!
Any normal Tier 2 would’ve been crushed by a five-level gap.
But Cole wasn’t normal.
He had five contracted beasts. Every single one had given him boosts and skills.
That let him fight way above his weight class.
And with the rest of his team harassing from the sides, the Alligator-Armored Tiger was completely overwhelmed.
…
Shlick!
Another Extreme Shadow Slash.
Cole and the tiger crossed paths in a blur.
Time seemed to freeze for half a second.
A paper-thin cyan line flashed across the tiger’s belly.
The next instant, blood fountained out like a broken fire hydrant from a perfectly smooth, horrifyingly deep cut.
The Alligator-Armored Tiger froze. A weak, unwilling whimper escaped its throat. Its massive body swayed, then crashed to the ground, shaking the earth.
It wasn’t dead yet, but it had zero fight left—just barely breathing.
“Man… this boss fight was way easier than I thought. We absolutely steamrolled it.”
Cole blinked in surprise.
“Submit.”
Cole said coldly.
The dying tiger stared at him for a long moment, then finally lowered its proud head.
Cole calmed his breathing, walked up to the giant beast’s head, and placed a hand on its rough, cold scales.
Mental energy poured from his Beast Space.

Feeling the new presence in his Beast Space, Cole couldn’t help but grin.
Alligator-Armored Tiger—this thing was a genuine premium beast.
All five of his other beasts combined weren’t worth as much as this one!
Rumor had it that once it reached Tier 3, there was a tiny chance it could evolve into a Sky Crocodile—an aerial dragon-like beast that was ridiculously strong and insanely cool. Every Beast Master’s dream ride.
And the skills it might awaken later… Cole was already drooling over the possibility of Dragon Roar—a skill said to carry true draconic majesty and intimidate all beasts.
…
After subduing the Alligator-Armored Tiger, the next target was obviously that glowing underground cave.
This place was very likely the root cause of the entire trial mutation.
There had to be treasure inside!
Heart racing with excitement, Cole led his squad carefully toward the cave entrance.
“We’re almost out of time. Five days are up soon—we’ll be forcibly teleported out any minute. Gotta move fast!”

Aurum City – Beast Master Alliance, Teleportation Hall 3Even though the three high schools had launched their Phantom Realm expeditions from their own campuses, every single exit portal had been routed to this one central location. The hall looked like a massive amphitheater.
