Alex tried to ignore Felicia and her new lover and focus his attention on Dr. Lucy, but Felicia wasn’t ready to let it go.
“So, this is what you have been doing behind my back, you ungrateful dog!” she snapped. “How dare you cheat on me with another woman? Have you forgotten that we are still married?”
Alex calmly reached into his pocket and pulled out the wedding ring Felicia had tossed away. Placing it on the table, he whispered coldly, “I think you’re the one who was eager to divorce me.”
This gesture infuriated Felicia even more, making her blood boil. She was ready to tear into Alex when Robert stepped in.
Stunned by Dr. Lucy’s calm demeanor and natural beauty, he couldn’t resist making an impression.
“My lady, I think this pauper has deceived you. Alex is a good-for-nothing loser who can’t even afford to buy a Chinese takeaway. He wasn’t the one who made the reservation. It was me,” he declared confidently, putting on his most charming smile.
But Dr. Lucy wasn’t impressed.
Just at that moment, the manager of the restaurant returned with a bottle of expensive Chardonnay. Hearing the commotion, he frowned and asked, “What seems to be the problem?”
Seeing the 2002 Chardonnay, Robert’s face brightened, and his mouth fell agape. He knew it cost well over a hundred grand. Still under the impression that it was his family name that had earned him such treatment, he turned to the manager.
“I only booked a table. There is no need for such an expensive complimentary drink,” he said, gloating in his own false sense of pride.
But the manager raised a condescending eyebrow and frowned at Robert. Ignoring his words, he walked over to Alex and greeted him with a smile before uncorking the bottle.
“Once more, I apologize for the confusion earlier. Please accept this humble gift, sir. The chef has prepared a seven-course meal for you and your lovely companion,” he said politely. “Please enjoy your food while we prepare the deluxe suite for you. It should only take a few minutes.”
Immediately, a train of waiters poured out of the kitchen, pushing four trolleys laden with food, and the head chef himself came out, carrying his signature dessert: the Golden Cannoli Delight.
Felicia and Robert were stunned by the display, their eyes widening in shock. They never even imagined Alex could afford to dine at such an elite restaurant, but hearing that he had booked a private suite gave them the shock of a lifetime.
Unable to control her anger, Felicia lost her temper and shouted at the top of her voice, “Are you really this stupid? Alex is nothing more than a penniless loser. He can never afford a deluxe suite at Neon Heights, and you’re seriously offering him free food!”
“Yeah, she is right. This guy’s just a lousy freeloader who is trying to fool this lovely lady over here,” Robert joined in. “Alex must have woven another elaborate lie to get close to you. But trust me, he doesn’t even have a penny to his name.”
Dr. Lucy had been hearing their constant allegations for quite a long time, and she could no longer bear such insolence toward the man who had given her everything.
She immediately rose from her chair and frowned at them.
“You don’t even know who you are talking to. Don’t cross your limits unless you want to ruin your lives forever,” she warned.
“Oh, so he has already gotten you under his spell, is it?” Felicia scoffed. “Alex is only going to disappoint you. I know he must have used the Rashford name to enter this restaurant, but let me tell you that he is nothing that he claims to be.”
“Yeah, he doesn’t belong here, especially with you,” Robert added in support, unable to take his eyes off Dr. Lucy’s charming face.
“What are you doing there, still standing like a mannequin?” Felicia asked the manager. “Kick this penniless loser out right now unless you want to lose our patronage forever!”
The manager’s face darkened, and he turned to look at Alex.
Alex heaved a sigh and decided he had finally had enough. He got up from the table and said coldly, “I won’t be tolerating any more of this nonsense. Throw them both out!”

213. Way of the Apache!
As the sun set beyond the Maracawa Hills in the west, night drew its dark blanket over the village, and a cool breeze blew from the south, easing the day’s toils.Alex and Holata were taken to two separate huts, where they were allowed to bathe and change into traditional Apache attire to prepare for the final judgment.Holata saddled his favorite Thoroughbred black stallion and jumped onto its back, securing himself in its stirrups. One of his still-loyal guards handed him a saddle scabbard filled with the best iron-tipped spears the blacksmiths could manufacture.Meanwhile, Alex was led to the barn to pick a horse from among the many wild ones the tribesmen had tamed over the years.Chayton accompanied him, showing him all the stallions and mares on offer.“Our chief isn’t much of a hunter or a warrior, but he is the best horseman in the whole village. It seems luck is not on your side,” he remarked. But Alex wasn’t dismayed.“Horsemanship doesn’t matter much once you are riding dee
212. Judgment of the Warrior
Holata’s eyes twinkled with hope as he heard the Elder’s call for combat. By invoking the Judgment of the Warrior, Chayton had not only given Alex a second chance but also provided Holata with a chance to reclaim his honor and return to the fold.It had been almost three decades since the last duel had been fought to the death. And even at that time, Holata had been one of the challengers.Thirty-five years ago, a young Holata had smashed his rival’s skull, bashing his face in, and retained his title as the chief of the tribe. Now, Holata was a man in his late fifties, but his eyes still burned with the same fire, and wisdom had only sharpened his shrewd mind.“I accept the challenge,” he declared, marching up to Chayton while holding his shackles up. “Unchain me, brother. Now the Warrior shall decide my fate.”Chayton begrudgingly unshackled Holata, removing the chains from his arms and legs and tossing them away.Takoda nodded in approval and then turned to Alex.“Outsider, do you a
211. Chieftain’s Folly
Holata could feel his grip slipping away as his whole tribe suddenly turned against him. And for the first time, he realized he was no longer in control.“We were all living happily on this farm until you showed up!” he cursed through clenched teeth, his eyes boring into Alex as he held the rifle firmly against his shoulder. “I should have shot you long back! But I will fix my mistake now!”“Stop it, dad!” Nashoba cried from behind.“Shut your lips!” Holata snapped back. “This outsider has ruined my reputation and soiled our family’s legacy. He does not deserve to walk away from this!”“Put that gun down, chief,” Chayton intervened, stepping closer to grab the weapon. But Holata quickly turned the rifle’s barrel toward the hunter and hissed like an angry viper, ready to strike at any moment.“Get back! Do not challenge me, brother. I still wear the crown of the chief of this tribe!”“That is going to change very soon,” Chayton retorted fearlessly. “You cannot fight us all. We know the

Not even the oldest member of the tribe would have ever dared to question the chief’s integrity, yet now an outsider stood in his very home, hurling accusations at him.Holata couldn’t bear the insult and burst out in rage.“You dare to speak ill of me in my own house, that too in front of my own kin?” he thundered, seething with rage. “Hold the Whip Cracker and take him captive!” he ordered, pointing at Alex. But before the warriors could march in to grab Alex, the chief’s son intervened.“You said the outsider had fled. Why has he returned then? Since when do thieves return to the home they have robbed?”Infuriated by his own son’s disobedience, Holata fumed and shook with rage.“You dare speak against your own father? Have you really decided to betray your own people to earn praise from an outsider?”“No, dad. I am not trying to win praise. But everyone deserves a chance to defend themselves. Such is the law of our land,” Nashoba replied with the calm composure of a person far beyo
209. Back from the Dead
Alex pulled in a deep breath as the rain lashed him with its icy whip, while he stood stock-still, frozen in the middle of nowhere. It was a choice between braving the raging river or returning to the dark cave and spending the night with the dead. The God of War, who would stare death in the eye without batting an eyelid, now stood stiff, a very human fear knocking at his ribs and chilling the blood in his veins.Alex had never been too fond of swimming, ever since that day when one of his corvettes had capsized in the middle of a war zone, hit by a torpedo. That ship had gone down like a stone along with nearly all its crew.Alex had swum ashore after a grueling struggle with the ocean currents that lasted three hours, but most of his soldiers hadn’t been so fortunate. The sight of the drowning men, begging to be saved, was still fresh before his eyes, and their screams still echoed in his ears, refusing to be silenced. It had been seven years since the incident, but Alex still avoi
208. Wrath of Malsumis
The dusty dagger glinted in the air as the shaman raised it menacingly above his head. His lips curved into a freakish grin as something primal exploded in his eyes, driving him past devotion.Yelling like a crazed fanatic, he swung his bony arms with all his might, aiming to plunge the dagger into Alex’s heart.“Malsumis, I offer you the blood of the lamb!”Alex watched as the blade rushed toward him, spearing through the air like a viper’s fangs. It was just inches away from his chest when Alex pulled his frayed rope binds apart and smacked the shaman in the head with a stone he had grabbed from the ground. The sudden blow cracked the shaman’s skull open, killing him instantly. While the shaman was chanting his prayers, Alex had used the distraction to grab a sharp, flat-edged stone from the ground and slowly chisel away at his bindings until the ropes were almost ready to give in.Without breaking character, he had waited for the other tribesmen to leave before breaking free when t
