Static crackled across Kai’s translucent arm like live wires grounding in storm-soaked earth. He gasped, fingers clawing at his throat as a foreign presence surged up his esophagus, cold, clinical, and violently invasive. His jaw wrenched open.

The Architect’s voice boomed from Kai’s mouth.

“Synchronization optimal,” it declared, Kai’s vocal cords twisting into a stranger’s smooth baritone. “Harvesting emotional residue from Subject: Linda. Proceed to extraction points.”

Selene recoiled, frost exploding from her palms in jagged spears. “Get out of him!” Gold veins ignited beneath her skin, burning like overloaded circuits as they crawled toward her collarbone.

Above them, the Tower’s shattered data-core pulsed, a diseased heart vomiting static. Linda’s ghostly form flickered, her edges fraying into luminous strands of light.
