The moment Drake took the first step, two half-transparent screens appeared in front of him. The first had the same SYSTEM NOTIFICATION as before. This time, however, it seemed to list a few things he didn’t understand until he read what was on the second screen.

The system decided to make it clear that he was stuck with the annoying idiot named Rollo, informing him that his chances of survival would be null unless the two of them made it out together.

Drake didn't understand what was the point of such a condition, but after some thought, he realized that he might be looking at it from the wrong angle.

Does that mean he’ll be of some help along the way?

“Is something wrong?”

The kid whispered from behind, curious as to why they had stopped.

“Nothing…”  Drake replied, still unsure what to think of the strange blue rectangles. “Let’s go.”

There was only one tunnel leading to the cells. Crossing it was a stressful endeavor made worse by the cold dirt floor. They arrived at the first fork in the road before long and it was time to decide which route they would take.

The route Drake previously picked was obviously a no-go even though it seemed to lead to the entrance Rollo came from.

According to the kid, while he was being escorted to the prison they passed by a big room where a great number of the black cloaks gathered. They were engaging in what appeared to be some kind of ritual, which is to be expected from a cult hiding in an underground maze in the mountains.

That left them with only one choice. Following the map in the corner of his vision, Drake led them through the tunnel to the right. With each step they took the lines extended showing more of how the road ahead looks like.

He didn’t expect it to be a straight line to the exit but he was still quite nervous when the turns began showing. Every time they reached a corner he would stop to carefully check what was behind it before proceeding.

The fear that the cultists would learn of their escape at any moment made him feel like they were running out of time and that didn’t do him much good.

The two soon arrived at a large cavern that, unlike the route they had taken so far, was illuminated by the soft orange glow of the torches hanging along the walls. Besides the one they arrived from, there seemed to be three other tunnels leading in opposite directions.

“Shit…” Drake cursed under his breath.

Which one should we take…

As he pondered over which path to check first he turned behind him to look at the kid named Rollo.

“What?” The kid asked, his brows furrowed.

The two have been walking in the darkness so far so they never got to see what each of them looked like. As expected, Rollo was a kid a year or two younger than Drake, which made him about fifteen.

His eyes were a clear blue and his hair was a bright red color that felt unnatural at first. The clothes he wore looked thick and made out of natural materials, unlike Drake’s which were just manufactured polyester.

Drake was an average Caucasian boy. His raven hair was cut rather short with the sides shaved almost entirely. The bags under his eyes spoke of unrelieved exhaustion, and his toned body seemed to ignore the chilliness of the cavern despite only wearing simple sweatpants and a t-shirt.

“Let’s check all of them first before we pick which one to take,” Drake spoke after some deliberation and surveyed their surroundings once more.

When Rollo nodded in agreement they began to move. The two sneaked along the wall of the cavern until they reached the first tunnel. Looking inside they learned that it was as dark as the one they came from.

Drake didn’t know what to take from that so they moved to the second which turned out the same. The third one was different. It had torches hanging along the wall and when he tried to focus he was able to hear faint voices coming from it.

They returned to the one they came from and began considering which route they should take. That was when Rollo spoke up.

“It’s faint but there is an air current coming from the first one. It could be our way out.”

Drake didn’t know if that was enough to base their decision on, but since he didn’t have much to work with anyway so he made his choice right away.

It was decided that they would take the third tunnel. After walking for a while Drake opened the map to see what it looked like at the moment. He wasn’t expecting much but seeing the shape drawn by their advance only served to confuse me more.

A lot of things happened after the battle against the Dragonspears. When they reunited with the others, Drake learned that Peter had saved Edda and her hound as well. Turns out the two were actually in a secret relationship and she was the one who came up with the whole plan of destroying his contract and escaping. Apparently she was of a rare race of Beastkin that possessed healing abilities. Since her bloodline was too valuable the Dragonspears wanted to make her a part of their family instead of enslaving her then harvesting her Soul. Healers were a rare commodity so even if they're Beastkin they're always treated well. That said, she couldn't get over the fact that she was sold like an object and was looking for the perfect opportunity to betray them. The weirdest part of all was that she had fallen in love with Peter despite him being nothing but a cloud of smoke. Drake was confused about how they planned on making it work, however the girl said that a magic that allows Beastki

"Why…?" Rollo asked his voice hoarse. He was on the ground, his lower half was lost, both of his arms as well. His wounds were frozen preventing him from regenerating. The frost was spreading killing his cells one by one. "I dont really know what you were expecting." Drake said, scratching the back of his head. He hated Rollo. Killing him was only natural. Still, seeing a kid laying on the ground having suffered such grave injuries Drake almost felt bad for him. Almost. He wasn't about to feel sympathy toward someone who planned to enslave him. "I… thought… we could be… friends…" the boy struggled to speak. His lips had turned blue and the breaths he struggled to release with each word turned into white fog. "I wanted you… by my side… we could've… we could've ruled… the upper realm…" "Friends? That's a really bad joke." Drake snorted, mocking the idea. "I only saw you as the bastard who wants to turn me into a weapon. I guess you have succeeded in that regard. Bet you didn't exp

Something about Rollo began to change. The aura covering his body began to fluctuate. He dropped his spear and his blue eyes turned bloody red. Drake heightened his guard. He felt that something odd was happening. The red haired boy had used the effects of the redacted title to force his main Soul to evolve. It was a Red Dragon. Though the name was simple, it was the Soul of one of the seven primal beasts that once ruled over the upper realm, the ones that put an end to the first Eternal Night. The final stage of its evolution is the Light Dragon. It was as rare as the Eternal Night, never found in the wild and can only be reached by cultivating the beast Soul with the help of the system. All of the other Souls Rollo had assimilated were consumed to gather enough Essence for the evolution. The forced process did the same to him as it did to Drake and caused him to lose control as he entered the second stage of assimilation.Scales began to grow on his arms and legs. A thick white t

The moment Drake chose the YES option everything suddenly went black. He couldn't see or feel, it was as if he was pulled out of his body, left as an accumulation of thoughts without a physician form. Time passed. He didn't know how long but at some pont he opened his eyes and looked around him. The black castle was a mess. Corpses everywhere missing most of their remains. Weapons of different types and sizes, broken and destroyed. Armor and shield thrown around bent into unknown shapes. What caught his attention the most were the crystals scattered around and the strange artifacts here and there. They didn't look like anything he recognized. Little did he know what they were magic weapons that had been used on him. The black castle was destroyed. Most of its buildings had crumbled. The walls surrounding it rendered to dust. Upon further inspection Drake noticed white flames here and there eating at anything that had yer to burn. Thay was enough of a clue for him to tell what had

Drake Went around hunting the apprentices looking for him. He approached them peacefully then took the chance to erase them using his void hand. Sadly it didn't go that well till the end. As he was erasing the forth one the fifth saw it and took off. Drake was unable to catch up with him and he ended up warning the servants who went around warning the other apprentices or guards. It was a shame that he couldn't go about it in a more quiet manner, but nothing could be done about it. Tossing the oil lamp he was carrying, drake coated both of his arms in the black flames. He faced the oncoming enemies and prepared to attack."What are we supposed to do!?" One off the guards asked. "He's an important guest of the lord, right?""They said he had killed some apprentices. Until we do a more thorough investigation we have to restrain him for now!"They didn't have to wait though as they got the proof they needed soon enough. The first guard to approach Drake had half of his body erased. Dra
