Ethan refused to believe what he was seeing.

This time, the line connected.

“Hello? Ava—”

He didn’t waste a second. “Where are you, Ava? Someone just sent me disturbing videos and pictures of you with another man. I need to confirm if you are—”

“Hello, Ethan Loner. Nice to finally speak with you. What a lovely moment I just had with your wife.” A strange voice cut him off

Ethan’s breath paused.

That voice… it sounded exactly like his boss—Liam Steel.

“You bastard!” Ethan roared. “What are you doing with Ava’s phone? Did you kidnap her?”

On the other end, Liam scoffed softly. “Come on, Ethan. You’ve been nothing more than the useless son-in-law of the Lugards. It took your wife only two minutes to accept a beautiful night with a rich man like me.”

“Tell me where she is right now. Is she there with you? What have you done to her?”

“Relax,” Liam replied lazily. “Your wife isn’t here with me. She’s there with you. Not far from the rooftop where you’re standing.”

Ethan frowned.

What was that supposed to mean?

He slowly turned around.

At that same moment, he heard footsteps approaching the rooftop door.

The call disconnected.

Ethan lowered the phone and looked at Mr. LeVert.

“Did you bring anyone with you when you came here?”

Mr. LeVert shook his head immediately. “Of course not. This rooftop was exclusively booked for you and Ava. If anyone is coming up here, it has to be your wife.”

As if on cue, a loud knock echoed against the door.

Ethan’s curiousity lingered.

He quickly turned to Mr. LeVert. “Hide. Now. I don’t want anyone knowing you’re here.”

Without hesitation, Mr. LeVert slipped behind a large decorative partition near the edge of the rooftop.

Another knock followed—louder this time.

Ethan rushed forward and pulled the door open.

To his shock it was Ava.

He tried to speak to her but his words halted when he sighted someone beside her… Or maybe a group of people.

Ethan’s lips parted. “The… the police? What are the cops doing here?”

Before he could finish speaking, Ava stepped aside and pointed directly at him.

“Officers, what are you waiting for? This is the man who murdered my grandfather. Arrest him.”

Ethan froze.

“M-Mr. Lugards is dead? What are you talking about?”

“Mr. Ethan Loner, you are under arrest for the murder of Mr. Michael Lugards. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you.” An Officer said, reaching for Ethan's wrist.

Ethan jerked back with force. “This is insane!” he shouted. “Why are you accusing me of killing Mr. Lugards when I’m only just hearing about his death now?”

His eyes shifted to Ava.

“And you? You’re here leveling accusations at me? I just watched disturbing videos of you with another man. Instead of defending yourself, you’re accusing me of killing your grandfather? Excuse me—who does that?”

His voice echoed across the rooftop, and for a moment, everything went silent.

Four years ago, Ethan had worked tirelessly to build a better future.

During that period of struggle, he met an elderly man who owned a small grocery shop.

The officers exchanged glances but remained silent.

“You can’t satisfy a woman. You don’t know how to take care of a family. You don’t provide for this household. All you do is eat, sleep, and repeat. What makes you think you’re incapable of being cheated on?”

Ethan shook his head slowly.

He knew she was lying.

Yes, he wasn’t as wealthy as the Lugards. That was true.

But he worked himself to exhaustion every single day to contribute in any way he could.

Even Katherine could testify to that.

She had demanded he provide five hundred dollars monthly to support the household—or divorce Ava.

And he never failed.

Every month, he handed over at least five hundred dollars.

Yet nothing he did ever pleased Ava.

“This is madness! I didn’t kill Mr. Lugards!” He shouted.

But No one responded.

As they began dragging him toward the stairway, Ethan twisted his head to look at Ava one last time..

“Don’t think this is over, Ava. It’s not over and it will never be over until I say so!”
