Ethan was taken straight to the precinct.

When they arrived, he signed the necessary documents without protest and allowed the officers to lead him to the cell where he would remain until his case was reopened.

Of course, Ethan did not panic.

He was rich—powerful enough to make a single phone call and walk out of there before sunset if he wished.

His grandfather alone could shake the entire police force the moment he heard that his grandson had been arrested for a crime he did not commit.

But Ethan chose to stay quiet.

He knew it would not be long before he was released.

Lying low was wiser than causing a scene.

He had barely settled behind the cold iron bars when a sharp female voice cut through the station.

“I need to see a man called Stephen King! He is in this precinct, and I heard he was arrested.”

Ethan lifted his head.

From where he stood, he caught sight of her.

The lady was so beautiful, tall and heavily authorized.

Even from a distance, there was something commanding about her presence—something that made people listen whether they wanted to or not.

His lips parted slightly as he blinked more than once.

Damn.

She was beautiful.

This was the first time in four years of marriage that Ethan had found himself admiring another woman.

He loved his wife—Ava—but this woman…

She was breathtaking. Striking in a way that made it difficult to look away.

His thoughts were still tangled around her when fingers snapped sharply in front of his face.

Ethan’s gaze refocused.

She was standing right in front of him.

The very same woman who had been yelling at the officers moments ago.

Up close, her beauty was even more intense, but it was her eyes that held him—fierce, intelligent, and unapologetically bold.

“Are you going to keep staring or are you going to tell me where Stephen King is?” She asked coolly, folding her arms across her chest

Ethan quickly regained his composure.

“Hi. How may I be of help to you?”

“Stephen King! I have been searching for you. Now that I’m here, I’ll arrange your bail and then we’ll proceed with the marriage.” The woman said, stepping closer to the cell.

“I’m Michaela Murfers, by the way.”

Ethan was surprised to the core.

Marriage?

He glanced around him, expecting another man to step forward and answer the question Michaela just asked.

But there was no one else in front of her.

And there was NO one behind him either.

So, he became more confused.

“Sorry, Madam? Are you… speaking to me?”

“Yeah. You’re Stephen. I was directed to you for our registered marriage. The conditions are as follows—”

“No, no,” Ethan cut in quickly, raising a hand through the bars.

“You’re definitely making a mistake. I don’t know who you are, and we’ve never met before. Plus, my name is not Stephen. I’m Ethan. Ethan Loner.”

For a brief second, everywhere was quiet.

Michaela’s confident expression disappeared immediately.

According to the directive she had received, Stephen King was in this particular cell.

Even the officer at the desk had pointed directly at Ethan when she asked.

But now? It happened to be a mistaken identity.

This signaled Ethan to believe that Michaela doesn't even know the face of the man she is searching for.

Realizing her mistake, Michaela cleared her throat awkwardly. “I’m sorry. You looked so much like him. I thought it was you.”

Ethan almost chuckled at the irony but held back.

She turned as if to leave, but suddenly her steps faltered and she coughed loudly.

Eyes turned to her.

Then she coughed again and again….

Ethan’s brows furrowed. “Are you okay?”

Michaela forced a straight posture and waved him off. “No need to worry about me, Ethan. I’m completely fine.”

She lied, and proceeded to leave when another violent cough seized her body.

This time, it was harsher. Deeper.

And then….

A dark stain appeared on her palm.

It was BLOOD!

She quickly tried to conceal the blood in her palm but Ethan already saw it.

At that moment, he knew something was terribly wrong.

“Miss Murfers!” he called sharply, reaching through the bars and grabbing her wrist before she could walk away.

“You seem to be quite sick. And judging by your symptoms, you’ve developed a lung disorder. If care isn’t taken, it might spread to your heart.”

Michaela stiffened and pulled her hand slightly.

“I’m fine. Don’t interfere. After all, you’re not a doctor.”

Ethan ignored her resistance.

With his free hand, he slipped it into his pocket, searching carefully.

If he wasn’t mistaken, he had taken one of his HEALER pills with him before his arrest.

They were specially formulated by him—crafted to cure virtually any ailment.

His fingers brushed against a small container.

Luckily, he had one left.

He brought it out and extended the pill toward her.

“Just take this, Miss Murfers. I’m sure it will heal you.” He said.

But Michaela stared at the pill in disbelief.

“You expect me to take that?” she asked incredulously. “A pill I don’t even know where it came from? If I may ask, are you even a doctor? Why are you handling medicine when you’re not one?”

“I may not be a doctor, but I can save your life!” Ethan responded, adding. “This ailment of yours is capable of killing you. You have to take this pill if you still value your life. So go ahead. Take it.”

I don’t care!”Those words. They had been spat at him without hesitation, without mercy.Ethan could still remember that day so clearly—how he and his mother had stood there, desperate and broken, begging for help. The second man froze when he heard Ethan speak like that. In this mansion, he was used to people lowering their heads, used to hearing the word boss fall from their lips without hesitation. To him, it was natural. He stood above them, and they stood beneath him. That was how things had always been. His name was Toby. The small tag clipped neatly to his uniform said it clearly, and Ethan had already taken note of it the moment he walked in.Now, seeing the way Ethan addressed him, Toby felt a sharp sting of anger rise in his chest. His jaw tightened. Who did this man think he was?In Toby’s eyes, Ethan was nothing—just another worker, another face in the crowd. Everyone else in the mansion knew their place. They showed respect. They spoke carefully. They understood who deserved authority. So why wasn’t Ethan doing the same?Toby slowly lifted his head as his eyes locked onto Ethan.“Who the hell do you think you are to challenge me like that?”Ethan remained silent. That silence only

Who was he, and what was he doing there?“Sir, we were just heading out. Our work here is done,” Ivy said smoothly. The second man frowned, unconvinced. His eyes lingered on her, suspicion evident.“You’re done with your work? What work exactly?”Ivy opened her mouth to respond, but the first man cut in.“And who is that?” he asked, pointing directly at Ethan. “Is he with you?”Ivy nodded quickly, a little too eagerly.“Yes, sir. He’s with me. We came together!” she said. Then, as if recalling something important, she added, “Remember when I spilled your meal earlier and everything got messed up? He’s the janitor I called to clean it up.”The two officers exchanged uncertain glances before pe

Until that was done, he couldn’t afford to be stopped.Completely ignoring the presence of the young control room officer in front of him, Ethan continued typing rapidly on the system. I’m not a criminal or a thief. I’m only here to do what’s right.
