“Polaris is not for people like us.” She uttered. She could afford it, but she didn't wanna make him feel too poor. Even if he were to work for a year, he wouldn't be able to afford a fancy restaurant like Polaris.

The luxurious restaurant was for the high and mighty only.

“Just promise you'll come with me. I promise it's my treat.” He replied and they both went to bed.

In the morning, Dexter and Ashanti parted ways. She went for her presentation and he went to his work.

During lunch, Clara, Dexter's ex-girlfriend spotted him walking into the cafeteria exclusive to bank workers.

Then she quickly walked up to him. Without hesitating, she stretched and hand forward saying, “Here– you can have your phone back.”

Dexter looked down at the phone and asked why she was returning it. He had bought this as a gift for her birthday months ago.

“It's an outdated android device.” She muttered, “...and the one Lucas bought for me is the latest iPhone. Since we are no longer dating, you can have it back.” She tells him.

Dexter sighed before collecting the phone.

“But you know Lucas is a fuckboy and still chose him..”

Smack!

Clara slapped him hard on the face.

Whoa! The workers in the cafeteria turned to face them at that instant.

“How dare you insult my man, you poor good-for-nothing lowlife! My friends were right! Dating a broke bastard like you would do me no good!” She shouted.

“At least Lucas pays my bills, takes care of my needs and is even a better fucker than you are!” Her words got the girl covering their mouths with their palm in shock.

“You never even allow me to shake you, how would you know if I'm good in bed?” He frowned. Lucas' lies and affection must have blinded her.

“And that's a win for me!” She barked, taking several steps away from him, “Lucas is a better man than you'll ever be! In loving, fucking, spending and everything!” Then she walked out, leaving Dexter under the watchful gaze of the entire cafeteria.

For some reason, their gaze didn't bother him. He was used to being humiliated.

“Dexter! Come join us!”

Dexter's friends invited him over to sit at their table and have lunch with them but Madison, a rich and pretty girl, who is also Clara's friend didn't like the idea.

“Nicholas? Seriously? Why are you inviting that loser to our table?” Madison frowned, dropping her cutlery.

The drama and tension was still in the air, and Nicholas was quick to invite his friend over? To make them look stupid for hanging out with a poor loser whose girlfriend ditched?

Other workers might look down on her, and it wouldn't be good for her status in the company!

“It's not a big deal, Madi.. he's in the marketing team. And also our friend.” Nicholas stated.

Dexter joined them as he didn't wanna turn them down. Few minutes into enjoying their meals, Madison noticed the entire cafeteria looking at their table.

I mean, Clara was her friend, and seating with the enemy was an abomination to her.

Plus, she never liked Dexter's dressing and his poor personality!

“Argh! I hope you're happy for ruining my mood, Nicholas! Especially you Dexter!” Clara wiped her lips and walked away from them.

She had never felt so embarrassed in her entire life!

The sight of Dexter gives her the freaking creep! She just can’t stand his cringe personality!

Thud!

While Madison was fuming, she bumped into a well dressed young man, and his coffee poured on his white undershirt.

“Watch where you're going punk!” She barked at him.

“Miss, you bumped into me! You should apologise!” The man frowned.

“Kiss my ass!” She shouted and was about to leave when the man pulled her back like she weighed nothing. “You tiny little thing! How dare you try to leave without apologising!”

His tight grip on her hands got Madison going red with anger that she stepped on his foot, bit him and rushed out of the place.

Nicholas, Fatima and the rest of them were left in shock at the stunt Madison just pulled on the gentleman.

Just as they were about to go to her, she had stormed out of the cafeteria.

During closing hours, Nicholas and Dexter heard someone sobbing under the stairs and they decided to take a look.

“Oh my goodness! Madison, why are you crying?” They rushed to her, and luckily, most of her friends were already comforting her.

Madison didn't say anything to them as she kept crying, but one of her friends explained everything to him. “... That was Mr. James White if only she knew. He was so pissed, he used his connection in ruining everything!”

“I would never have bitten him if I knew his status in the society! If my dad finds out, he's going to disown me!” Madison cried.

Dexter remained quiet. He knew an outburst of wrath was never going to end well.

Ringing!

Just then, her phone started ringing. She wiped her tears and cleared her throat the moment she saw that it was her dad.

Before she could greet him, her father started shouting on the other end. “You good-for-nothing woman! As if getting a divorce from your mother to save myself wasn't enough, you had to add yours and ruin things for me!”

“I'll make this right, please forgive me, dad.” She cried.

“How are you going to do it?! You think Mr. James White is just anyone who works in that stupid Bank?! Did you skip your anger management class! Your foolishness is not just going to make you lose your job, it's slowly affecting my business!” He roared on the other end, breaking her heart even more.

“I curse the day your…”

“Dad, please! I'll work something out…” before she could finish, the call ended.

Madison rushed back as she spoke with teary eyes. “Nicholas, Ben, Fatima… you all have to help me… your father is also in the business world… I don't know how to contact Mr. James White, but if I can get through to him, I'll lay down my life to apologize to him… apart from the fact I'm going to get fired tomorrow…my dad's business has been affected!” She cried with so much pain.

They all didn't hesitate. They started making several phone calls. Some called their fathers, grandfather, who are highly Influential but the response they got was as good as useless to this situation.

Turns out, James White was a powerful man who came to inspect the bank. And most of the relatives they called didn't wanna get themselves involved in such a critical case.

“I'll keep trying.”

“My mum said there's nothing she can do.”

“My dad doesn't wanna get involved, not even my aunt.”

Madison felt shattered.

“Dexter… how about you?” Nicholas asked him.

Dexter shrugged. “Alright I'll help her. Just stop crying.”

“I don't need your fucking help!” Madison shouted, and it took Nicholas stopping her from acting irrational for her not to hit Dexter. Maybe her father was right… She does need anger management class.

“Relax mady.. Dexter was only trying to help.” Nicholas stated.

“I never asked for his stupid help! All this is his fault! If you never called him over to the table, then maybe I wouldn't have stormed out the way I did! And maybe this harsh reality would have never happened!” She barked breathlessly, her eyes filled with coldness.

“At least he promised to help..”

“Where is he going to get the help from? The sky? I said I don't want it! Get out, Dexter! I don't need you here, neither do I need your help!” She shouted, pushing him away from her as she cried.

She knows he's a nobody, how could he possibly help her situation?
