Ron’s jaw clenched as he calmly shut the door to Elena’s room. There was no use running after her and her sudden escape had only confirmed something he had been suspecting.

Elena wasn’t pretending. She knew exactly what she was doing and she knew Hera was her daughter. She may have been weak when she stood before Nathan West, but ever since they got back to the house, Ron had noticed how sharp and attentive she was.

Her movements were quick and swift and her words piercing. She didn't seem like a normal maid. It was also commendable that she was able to escape under his watch.

“What are you hiding, Elena?” He whispered to himself as he went back to his room. He took the small ziplog bag he had in his bedside drawer, raising it in the air to inspect it.

For the years he had spent in prison, he had learned to never trust what he saw and he would always have a backup plan.

The bag contained Elena’s hair which he had secretly taken when she was not looking and now, whether she liked it or not, he was going to conduct the DNA test and slap the result in her face.

A few hours later…

Hunter had quickly rushed to the hospital when he heard Elena had escaped. And even though he didn't know who she was to Ron, he figured she must be someone very important.

“I need to know everything about her,” Ron demanded, after explaining all that had happened.

“What if she isn't the mother? I don’t think any good mother would abandon her child that way.” Hunter scrunched his nose in disgust.

Even though he was a businessman who had cut down on people’s lives numerous times, he had seen how adorable Hera was. How could a parent abandon such a sweet child?

“She has to be…” Ron was convinced, as he rubbed his finger on his bottom lip. His eyes dimmed, trying to recall if he had missed anything about Elena and Ria. Why would Ria sell her sister to the West family?

But there was nothing he could remember or make out.

“Mr. Ron.” The doctor stepped out with a smile. “The test result is out.”

“And?” Ron raised a brow in question.

“It’s a match.”

Ron took a deep breath. He had been expecting that news but why did he feel a sense of unease as if there was more to unravel?

“Thank you, doctor.” He took the DNA test and walked out of the hospital with Hunter.

As soon as they got into the car, Hunter stared at him, eyes probing. “Do you have to find her now?”

“Of course. I am going to get to the root of this issue.” Ron nodded.

“But…” Hunter sighed. “Why do you want to waste your time on that woman? You have to take over the Storm Creed as soon as possible, otherwise, the company will be gobbled up by unscrupulous people.”

“Everyone is expecting the new chairman to emerge and if you don’t step up, they will only take their share and leave a shell for you to govern.”

“I think you should reconsider, Ron. If you want a mother for Hera, there are plenty of women who can take over that position as long as you give them the money.”

Ron pursed his lips, his eyes staring into space. He couldn't deny that Hunter was telling the truth. However, there was a knot in his heart he needed to untie. It would keep on bugging him if he didn't.

At the same time, he couldn't fail his mentor’s legacy, after all, he owed his life to the mafia Don.

“Do you know, taking over Storm Creed, means I am taking over the Creed’s empire,” Ron said with a heavy tone, laced with the intricacies of his new beginning. “Not only the company but everything that has to do with the Creed’s name.”

“Yes, and I am ready to aid you.” Hunter declared, his eyes clear with devotion.

“Very well then.” Ron nodded. “However, taking over Storm Creed wouldn't stop me from finding the truth.”

“Find every information you can get on Ria and Elena from the last ten years.”

Hunter protested, “But—”

“If you find nothing worthy, then I will completely forget about her. But if you do, then I wouldn't sit back.” Ron declared. Hunter wanted to protest immediately but the fierce look in Ron’s eyes made him sit back.

“I will do as you say.” He nodded. After all, he had heard great things about Ron from the mafia Don while he was in prison. Ron wasn't one with a weak mind who was easily swayed.

And the mafia Don already entrusting his whole empire to him only meant that Ron wasn't to be trifled with.

One hour later, Ron sat behind his desk in his study room after putting Hera to sleep. At the same time, Hunter walked in with a stormy gaze, his hand clutching onto a small drive.

“Everything you need is in here.” He passed the drive to Ron, however, his hands shook slightly.

“Is it good news or bad news? Did you find something worthy?” Ron asked as he inserted the drive. His fingers hovered over his computer but he kept glancing at Hunter, curiously.

“I did. I found something earth-shattering.” Hunter hissed and Ron’s fingers halted, his brows raising.

“Elena…” Hunter began but Ron was already checking the contents of the drive. He scrolled quickly over the pile of information only to discover that Elena and Ria had only seen each other for the first time in ten years, days before he went to prison.

The night he was set up with Elena in bed, was all Ria’s doing, and those two were sworn enemies, not loving sisters like he had thought years ago. Ria hated her sister so much, she wanted to get her out of the way using Ron.

That was already surprising enough but when he clicked on Elena’s personal information, his fingers froze again and his eyes bulged.

“Elena is our enemy, Ron.” Hunter clenched his fists. “We need to discard her.”

  • What About Elena?

Ron pursed his lips as he looked from the phone and back to Ria, “Why should I answer you?” “What?” Ria gasped. “Who gave you the balls to be so defiant?” “Defiant?” He shrugged. “I just don't answer to you, that’s it.” “But you must answer to this, Ron.” Ria snarled. “Why were you with Mr. Hunter and even Nathan West was bowing to you! Is there something you are hiding from me?” Ron couldn't help but see Ria for who she was now. She thought she had the world under her feet and she had control over everything. But then, he decided to test her, to push her over the edge to confirm his suspicion. “I don’t know Hunter.” He said. “But I went there to see Nathan West specifically. After all, you told me Elena was with the West family.” “Elena?” Her friends gasped, looking at each other fearfully. Ron quickly caught their expressions and was about to ask questions when Ria cut in. “What…what about Elena? Did you find her?” Her eyes darted around nervously. Ron studied her express

  • DNA Test

“What do you mean?” Ron frowned. “You know Ria, right? I used to be Ria’s boyfriend.” “I…I don’t know what you are talking about.” Elena shook her head, her eyes darting to look away. Ron pursed his lips, looking from Hera to Elena. Yes, Hera had some similar features with Ria but looking at Elena, she could see how they looked so much alike. He was convinced Elena was Ria’s mother. But it didn't seem like Elena was faking her words. She didn't even bat an eye when she spoke in Hera’s face. “Don’t you see the resemblance—”“Look, Mr. Ron…” Elena took a deep breath, her fists clenching beside her. “I appreciate that you bought me off like a commodity but you can’t force an identity on me.” “I am not anyone’s sister or mother and I certainly do not know you.”As soon as she was done speaking, she walked past Ron but he quickly caught her by the arm. “Where are you going?” He raised a brow at her. “You can’t step into that house anymore.”“Why? Because you bought me?” Elena sneered
