Chapter 1

"Victor, you're being too rough... This is my first time, you know..."

"Stop pretending! I don’t believe that ‘loser’ never touched you!"

"Hmph! He's just a dog we keep in the Blackwell family. Want to touch me? Not happening!"

The woman’s voice was cold as ice.

As soon as she finished speaking, her demeanor shifted completely. Her previously frosty face suddenly softened, a hint of bashfulness and a flush appearing on her cheeks.

She swayed her seductive body, moving like a snake, wrapping her arms around the man in front of her. Her eyes sparkled with affection and allure.

"Victor!"

"Let me serve you tonight!"

...

Looking at the video on his phone, sent secretly by one of his subordinates, Ethan saw his wife’s affair.

The sultry tone in her voice, combined with the explicit and pornographic imagery, felt like a steel spike stabbing deep into his chest.

His head spun, and a wave of dizziness hit him as if the ground beneath him had disappeared.

He couldn’t understand it. How could the wife he had loved for three years turn into someone like this?

"What... what is going on?"

"Serena! Why are you doing this to me?"

He struggled to control his emotions, trying to keep his voice calm and steady.

But every time he thought of his wife’s smile—the one that now seemed as fake and vile as a bitch’s—a surge of anger, like an unstoppable wildfire, welled up inside him.

Yet Serena, standing before him, looked as if nothing was wrong. Her delicate face held nothing but indifference and calmness.

"We should get a divorce."

Her tone was cold, devoid of any emotion.

Ethan’s expression immediately hardened, his gaze sharp as a blade, fixed on Serena.

"Is this because of Victor?"

"Exactly." Serena nodded, her voice dripping with disdain.

Then, she looked at Ethan from a condescending angle, her face filled with contempt.

"Ethan, think about it. In three years of marriage, what have you done for me?"

"Nothing! Absolutely nothing!"

"Not only did you offer no help, but now you’re holding me back from moving forward!"

"Do you know how embarrassing it is when people ask me what my husband does? I can’t even say you're just a... stay-at-home husband!"

Serena deliberately emphasized the words "stay-at-home husband" like a sword, stabbing deep into Ethan’s heart.

A "stay-at-home husband"?

Ethan couldn't help but laugh bitterly.

If it weren’t for his care and support over the past three years, would Serena have the energy to invest in her career the way she has?

It was his efforts that helped her rise to the top as Clouddale’s new business queen. He had quietly used his resources to help Serena climb the ranks.

And now… she called him useless?

Pathetic! Even more laughable!

"What’s so funny?"

Seeing the sarcastic grin on Ethan’s face, Serena's temper flared up.

"I’m telling you!" she snapped. "Don’t think I don’t know what’s going on in your mind. Your so-called contributions mean nothing to me!"

"Only Victor can help me reach the top!"

"You know what? I’ve known Victor for just three months, and in that time, he helped me secure a billion-dollar contract with the Blackgold Consortium!"

"And you? What have you done for me in these three years?"

Serena’s voice grew louder, her anger evident. The disdain she felt for Ethan reached new heights.

Ethan’s heart was shattered. The woman who once saved his life—had become someone he no longer recognized.

And now, this so-called "Victor" had secured a billion-dollar deal? What a joke! Without his approval, Serena would never have gotten that contract!

Eighteen years ago, Ethan was the heir to the prestigious Cross family in the capital. But as a bastard child, he was cast out and nearly died on the streets.

Thankfully, a girl saved him. To repay her, he gave her one of the pairs of rings his mother had left him—a pair of rings containing phoenix gemstones.

Later, he met an old man who changed his life forever.

With the old man’s guidance, Ethan mastered countless skills—medicine, martial arts, finance—and eventually became the ruler of the underground world, controlling the Blackgold Consortium.

For years, Ethan never stopped searching for the girl who saved him, as well as investigating his mother’s mysterious death.

Finally, three years ago, he found a clue.

Serena Blackwell—a woman from the Clouddale City possessed that phoenix ring.

Ethan was certain—she was the girl who saved him all those years ago.

So, he gave up his position in the dark underworld and became a live-in son-in-law of Blackwell Family, all to be close to her.

He had helped her behind the scenes, using every connection he had, but she took all the credit for herself.

And now, she credited Victor with a deal that was only possible because of Ethan's influence!

If Serena truly despised him this much…

Then it was time to say goodbye.

Without hesitation, Ethan snatched the divorce papers from Serena’s hand, signed them with a flourish, and slammed the pen down.

"I’ve signed the divorce papers. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other."

"Hope you don’t regret it."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Watching Ethan leave, Serena’s face contorted with contempt. She smirked, her words dripping with sarcasm.

"Regret it? Hmph! You’re the one who will regret it!"

...

Ethan walked away from the house without looking back.

He would never return to this place that had never seen him as anything more than a pawn.

But just as he stepped outside, the sharp glare of headlights cut through the night like a shooting star, illuminating the entire area.

A convoy of top-tier luxury cars, all Rolls-Royces, appeared like a black dragon on the road, exuding a powerful aura.

The spectacle drew the attention of everyone nearby.

This part of Clouddale was known for its luxury villas, home to only the wealthiest and most influential people.

But even they had never witnessed such a grand display!

The next moment, a group of burly bodyguards in black suits quickly descended from the cars. In their midst, an elderly man in a black tuxedo, exuding an air of authority, leaned on a cane and advanced ahead.

The crowd gasped in shock and began to whisper.

"Is that... the head of the Blackgold Consortium, Night Monarch—Dante?"

"Wait, really? He’s here in Clouddale?"

"What’s going on? How could such a powerful figure be here?"

Before anyone could process this, the next scene left everyone speechless.

The head of the Blackgold Consortium, Dante, kneeled before a young man!
