Chapter 6: Sink or Swim.

Neo gulped the potion. The moment the potion entered his body, he felt a soothing feeling and new found power waking every pore in his body. Neo clenched his fist as he felt he could crush a boulder, but that was just him overestimating himself. He looked at his new stats.

No change in the [Luck] stats was not surprising to him as he knew that only [luck booster potions] could do that and those things were several times more expensive than the potion that he had just consumed.

After confirming that everything was ready, Neo peaked from the crack to see what the monsters were doing. He didn't have the inspection skill and could only discern with his eye whether the monsters were the buffed up version of the monsters or not.

The hall was dimly lit with torches that cast eerie shadows on the walls. In the center of the hall stood a group of green-skinned monsters, about half a dozen in number, chattering amongst themselves in their guttural language. They paid no attention to the hidden observer, too absorbed in their own conversation.

Neo sneaked around, taking advantage of the dim environment. He wanted to finish at least two with a surprise attack. He took the sword slowly out of its sheath and tightened his grip on it, waiting for the perfect moment.

And he got the chance as two of the monsters moved away from the group. Neo followed them for a while before steadily approaching them. When he was only 4 meters away from them. Neo dashed as he kicked one monster away while slashing at the neck of the monster.

The kick landed on the back of the monster as it flew forward. Its companion was surprised and couldn't react in time before its view changed, and it saw its own body and a stranger standing next to it before its vision darkened.

Neo hurriedly threw his sword toward the monster, which he kicked before, while he picked the crude blade of the dead monster.

The green monster screeched as it came into contact with the ground and received -20 damage. Its screech attracted the attention of other monsters, but before it could do anything anymore. A sword came flying toward him and embedded itself in its chest and another damage appeared.

The monster slid back and wasn't able to do much as this attack took almost its life, but before it could celebrate being alive, Neo was already near him and swung the crude blade downward and the blade got embedded into its head. It wasn't able to go further because of how blunt it was and that Neo also didn't use his full strength.

The monster didn't even get to swing once at its enemy, and it was already dead. Neo heard a chime in his ears but didn't have the time to check as the other 4 monsters were already close to him because of the previous screech of the monster.

Neo took the sword lodged in the mobster's chest out and grabbed the dead monster by its neck as he threw it toward the incoming monsters while following behind it.

The monster saw the incoming monster flying toward them and stopped. That much time was enough for the dead body to come in contact with them and it collided with the monster in the front.

It made the monster almost fall as the force behind the throw was great. Neo, who was following just behind, again slashed horizontally and made one more head fly, reaping another life.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the monster next to the now headless one was a little behind so the sword that slashed the neck of the first one, moved toward it and gave it a deep cut over its chest.

It writhed in pain as blood gushed out of its wound, dying its body red. It shreiked in pain and flailed its hands around in pain. Neo gave him relief the next instant and kicked it away, his target being its neck. A cracking voice came, and the neck and the spine of the monster were completely crushed. It died instantly.

Another chiming voice sounded in Neo's ears, which he again wasn't able to pay attention to as he jumped back, and a deformed spear stuck to the ground where he was standing before.

The remaining two monsters didn't let him take a breather as they ran toward him, attacking him randomly and interrupting each other. Neo easily dodged them and wounded them with every strike. And after half a minute, one more monster breathed its last while the other one was still attacking in a frenzy, not knowing the future that awaited it to whom, without surprise, Neo finished quickly.

After the last monster, Neo stared at the dead body of the monster for a while before looking at his hands, which were still trembling. The rush of adrenaline that was pumped into his body slowly receded. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as this much excitement was bad for health.

The notification panel popped open in front of him as he looked at them with bated breath, as this was the moment that will tell him whether he'll sink or swim.

Neo looked at the long awaited notification for a while as he could finally taste the effect of leveling up and becoming powerful. He wanted to jump and shout in happiness, but controlled himself from doing so.

He re-opened his status again to see his level

It confused Neo as this was not how it was supposed to be and the second thing of his confusion were the words following "Level up".

"All stats +2. Shouldn't I get stat points, which I can add myself?"

He hurriedly checked if he got any stat points and a strange expression appeared on his face as he found what he was looking for.
