“This place isn't any better than the old world! Just as I expected!”
Adrian swept his gaze across the surroundings.
It was a vast plain, with mountains stretching across the distance behind him and a forest lying ahead.
The land couldn't exactly be called barren, but neither was it fertile. The trees had no leaves on their branches, and many of them already looked as though they were beginning to wither.
When Adrian noticed the thin red mist beneath his feet, he immediately pulled the mask from his waist and put it over his face.
In the old world, this mist had contaminated the soil and vegetation. Although it didn't poison humans immediately, prolonged exposure could slowly transform them into zombies.
“With conditions like this, food is bound to be scarce. I need to find a source of food first.”
Adrian swept his gaze across the area again, but there was nothing in sight except a small structure in the distance.
His greenhouse.
“There's nothing here? How am I supposed to survive with this?”
He moved closer and looked inside.
There was nothing.
Aside from the bare soil, it was nothing more than a fragile structure that looked more like an abandoned building.
The Doomsday would begin in three days, when the monsters started attacking humanity.
But without food, and with Adrian already having gone three days without eating because he had given his food to Valia, he might already be defeated before that day even arrived.
Adrian opened the transparent screen in front of him and checked his Shelter's information.
“What? It only has one star?”
A Shelter wasn't measured solely by its tier, such as Bronze and above. It was also rated according to the number of stars it possessed.
The fewer stars it had, the lower its level.
And vice versa.
That meant Adrian's Shelter was the lowest-ranked among all Bronze-level Shelters.
“All right. There's no point complaining. I'd better do something.”
Adrian extended his hand, reaching toward the Greenhouse's door, which was nearly falling apart under the force of the wind.
“Even if this is all I have, I'll make the best possible use of it to survive!”
“Welcome, Lord Galael, to your special Shelter!”
A System notification sounded the moment his hand touched the Shelter.
Adrian frowned when he heard the word special.
What could possibly be special about a Shelter like this?
“Your Shelter can be upgraded according to your wishes. Not only can its level increase, but its tier can also be raised. You only need to provide the required Elemental Stones.”
Alongside Energy Stones, Elemental Stones were one of the most important resources in the New World.
They were essential for constructing and upgrading Shelters.
“Furthermore, your Shelter will also transform whenever another building enters your territory. The more guests you invite, the stronger your Shelter will become.”
“Oh, so that's how it works!”
Adrian nodded, and the light in his eyes grew brighter.
Other Shelters could only upgrade certain aspects of their structures.
His, however, could actually increase in level.
With an ability like that, what was he waiting for?
He had to try it right now.
But when Adrian flipped through the pages on his screen, his expression fell.
“Not enough Elemental Stones! This is useless!”
Upgrading from one star to two stars alone required one hundred Elemental Stones.
Meanwhile, Adrian had only one thousand Energy Stones and zero Elemental Stones.
If he wanted to upgrade his Shelter, the only option was to exchange his Energy Stones for Elemental Stones.
But that wasn't a wise choice right now.
One Elemental Stone cost ten Energy Stones.
That meant he would have to spend all of his Energy Stones just to upgrade his Shelter by one star.
“I can't do that. I still need Energy Stones to survive the monster attacks.”
He didn't have enough Elemental Stones. He didn't have anything else, either.
“Then what can I do now?”
At that moment, Adrian's eyes suddenly widened.
“Idiot! Don't I have that Legendary Ability?”
Adrian extended his hand.
[Legendary Touch successful. The Shelter is undergoing a mysterious transformation.]
A notification panel appeared before him the instant his hand touched the door.
At the same time, the wind began blowing harder from every direction, converging around the Greenhouse.
Adrian raised his arm in front of his face to shield himself from the clouds of dust being blown toward him.
Then, not long after …
The ground began to shake violently.
A deep rumbling sound echoed across the plain.
Something seemed to be rising from beneath the earth.
Kreeek!
Kreeek!
Kreeek!
The Greenhouse's foundation, which was nothing more than a mound of earth raised slightly above the surrounding ground, began expanding in every direction.
Adrian was pushed toward the edge and nearly lost his balance.
The structure that had originally measured only three by four meters rapidly expanded until it reached twelve by twelve meters.
Then, something began moving beneath the foundation.
A golden light emerged and enveloped the entire structure.
As the golden light passed over it, the earthen foundation underwent a miraculous transformation. The mound of dirt became a solid concrete foundation two meters high.
But it didn't stop there.
The golden light continued upward, enveloping the supporting pillars and plastic walls, performing the same miracle as before.
The thin pillars transformed into thick, sturdy silver steel. The plastic walls that had been on the verge of tearing apart became thick glass walls that could be clearly seen even from a considerable distance.
With the addition of the reinforced foundation, the worst Shelter in existence had now transformed into a Silver-level, One-Star Shelter, standing a total of ten meters tall.
“T-This...”
Adrian was speechless.
He could only stare wide-eyed at the magnificent structure before an overwhelming sense of joy nearly burst through his chest.
“Yes! This really isn't bad!”
Loud laughter erupted from his mouth.
With a shelter this good, securing a source of food should no longer be a problem.
So what did he have to worry about now?
“It seems the heavens are finally showing me some mercy! I'm much safer from monster attacks now! Let's see what's inside!”
Adrian didn't waste any time opening the glass door.
But the moment he looked inside, his brow furrowed once again.
Something was wrong.

“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni

“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al
Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack
“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill
Chapter 25 - The Attack He Had Been Waiting For
Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
Chapter 24 - The First Evernight
“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
